I acquired a 1969 Honda Dream several years ago and soon found myself with a bike which needed serious work. I went to Dave and the gang at Combustion and they stripped down the engine looking for problems and recommended a rebuild. That being out of my price range at the time and looking for a fun project, I thanked them and took my boxes full of my engine home with the hope of rebuilding it myself. More than a year goes by and I finally get started on the project. Being a bit of a novice on that big of a job (full top & bottom rebuild) I go back to Combustion to source parts and glean advice. They continued to be super supportive and helpful even though they werent doing the job themselves. I eventually took in my cylinders to be honed out and the head in to replace the valves. They did a fantastic job on that and I completed my engine rebuild in quick time! After everything was back together the engine ran again, but with a bit of a tick... I was baffled by where the tick came from. The bike ran great, but made still noise so I rode it over to Combustion and Dave and I took a look at the valve clearances and he noticed one valve set being improperly timed. A few minutes later the valves were perfectly timed and the Dream purred like it was 1969!!!! All that said, in the past few years I go to Combustion first for everything motorcycle related from new tires to batteries and other spare parts and advice. Theyre friendly, punctual, and knowledgeable even to a guy like me who stubbornly wants to do as much work on my own as I can!

i bought an argo scooter last year, june 2008. unfortunately, i wrecked it in july. anyway, i took it to combustion cycles right way so i could get back on the road..... or so i thought. EIGHT MONTHS later, in march of 2009 i received my repaired scooter. during this period, i was never called and updated about the delay. i would call periodically and get some story about the parts being in china, on the dock in san francisco, or on a ship in the middle of the ocean. finally the day came when my scooter was repaired. when i went to pick it up, the repair i was told would be a couple of hundred of dollars in plastic ended up costing over $1,000. when i brought that to their attention, i was told, "well work with you on the price". so, after waiting eight months for parts and repair, they worked with me for a whopping $60. when i got the scooter home, i noticed there was 750 miles on the odometer. when i took it in, there was 1,250 miles on the odometer. they had no plausible explanation. so who knows what actually happened with or to my scooter. recently the scooter that has be in use for under a year started leaking oil. the economical thing would be to see it could be repaired. however, i was so disgusted with my treatment at combustion cycle, i am going to junk that scooter and buy a new one from a reliable dealer. bottomline, if you are considering purchasing anything from this organization, i suggest you learn from my mistake and go elsewhere....... i am. above they require i rate with stars.... fyi, it wont allow me to rate with zero stars

I would have given a zero star review if it existed. I took my bike (Aprilia Dorsoduro 750) there to replace the chain and after following the "advice" of the "experts" to change the sprockets so that the new chains life is not compromised. LONG story short, I ended up with a broken second gear (which according to the "experts" from Combustion Cycles is a "mystery") needing to have the whole engine pulled out of the bike and needing to rebuild the gear box and clutch. This resulted in a bill of several thousands of dollars and a wait time of several months. When I picked up the bike a new alarm started showing up on my dashboard which remains unclear what it means; the "experts" from Combustion Cycles" are giving me no real answers as always. Now, I need to take my bike to a real shop (like a dealership) and see what else is messed up. I already noticed some of the tubing of the bike being misplaced and certain plastic covers in the battery compartment missing resulting in cables and tubes hanging from all over the place. In summary, these guys are poor mechanics, overcharge and will rip you off with any chance...STAY AWAY, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!

Lovely gents doing much needed human interaction with scooter as my only transportation. Robs great advice got me the terrific little ("pristine!") honda pcx 125 just when it came in! Dave even let me put money down on it for a few months until I could pay in full. Rob stopped on the highway on Cornwallis when he saw me pulled over speaking with another scooter rider to see if all was well! It was/is! Desmond has been wonderful giving me best info on servicing my scooter after these 9 months, printing out a page of what-all is done in the "minor 4" tune-up and talking me through the details. And best of all Tallia took my info on the phone and got me a managers quote for the oil change (that I could afford!) the next day. The mechanic (dark haired guy with beard) got my scooter all set and even put a little more air in tires in less than a half hour. I was off to run errands and the 93 degree heat hardly bothered me because of this great service and assurance that I could budget for the more comprehensive tune up a few more months...Thanks, Combustion gentlemen, and Tallia!

Pretty serious mistake, but I will give them a second chance since the work they got right was well done. I took an older bike in for major work, ended up being $1000+. I dont mind paying for quality work, but things have got to be done right if Im paying that much. Combustion did *almost* everything right, but "close" on repairs doesnt cut it. So, heres the story. I ran out of gas after picking up my bike (they did a carb cleaning, fluids, cables, fork rebuild, etc.). This was surprising to me since I probably had 1/4 tank when I dropped it off usually amounts to 20-30 miles for me and home is only 10 miles away. I did not make it close to home, probably 3-4 miles away from the shop. So I switched to reserve and noticed that THE CARB WAS SPITTING OUT GAS!!!! No wonder the tank was dry! I couldnt deal with it on the side of the road so I made it a few blocks to a gas station. Called them immediately. Lucky for me I have a small toolkit on my bike and they talked me through how to tighten the part that had come loose. That fixed it, but come on!

The folks at Combustion Cycles go out of their way to provide excellent service and they strongly stand behind their products. A little over a month ago, I purchased my second scooter from Combustion Cycles. This one being a step up from a 50 cc scooter to a 220 cc scooter. The larger bike had 5000 miles on it and I purchased it "as is" (no warranty). Even so, a month later, when my engine began making some serious clunking noises, Dave volunteered to swing by my house during his weekly Chapel Hill run to take a quick look. He was concerned enough to advise me to cease driving it and offered to bring it to their shop to check it out. As it turns out, the problem was not as serious as it could have been, but definitely needed correcting. Dave offered to drop the bike off at my house during his next Chapel Hill run. Bottom line, within a few days, with minimal disruption to my schedule, my bike was returned to my door in perfect working condition. This is a business that you can definitely trust. I highly recommend them.
