After using another kennel for years, I decided to try this place while I was in Asia for about a month. Upon drop-off the owner promises in person and in writing to contact you if there are any problems. I am used to a kennel where we can just watch our dog on video and judge his mood / health -- and can ask them to address any issues we see from afar. A place where everyone knows your animal and knows you and what you both want. The owner said he would contact us immediately if there were any issues at all. Upon pick up I had a similar experience to Susan below. Even though I called 15 minutes ahead of time, the dogs were wandering around the facility unchecked and unsupervised and FILTHY. My dog was brought out and stinking (though they said they just bathed him). And he was paraded through this pack of dogs while he was /leased/ -- a recipe for multiple altercations. My children had to run back to our truck. They were very lucky they didnt get bitten. The owner came over after all of this and stated he had, "serious problems" with our dog but would not elaborate. I squarely put it to him that he said he would contact me if he had a problem, he had our email and phone and had said nothing. He just turned his back and left. I yelled after him and he ran away. I found my dog was covered with multiple bite wounds, some quite serious -- multiple patches of fur and skin missing, seeping crusty old blood. His eyes were red and his respiration was quick. Hard to know if he had seen the sun in weeks. I asked the owner about the bites (email) and if he had vaccination records for all of the dogs by which he had been bitten -- no reply. His bedding (which I provided to make him comfortable) had to be disposed of. Though I washed it before sending him off to, camp it was returned wet and covered with mold. I suspect that they just spray the dogs and their bedding in the horse stalls. It was revolting. I had to take him to a vet where hes been put on some antibiotics and now is quarantined. Still no response from owner. Clearly this is a scam. It seems like a reasonable proposition, a dog lover who emptied his horse stables to board dogs. But its a complete scam. These dogs are not looked after, not fed properly, not cleaned, and there is no supervision or medical attention. (My dogs food was returned without about a weeks supply used after 22 days.) I will be following up with this guy via legal channels. Someone has to do it. Just because your dog seems happy when you pick him or her up doesnt mean anything. They are completely abandoned while there and the owner is asleep in the house somewhere.

Their website looked so nice so I went there to make arrangements to board my dog, and see the facility. Was let in the gate by an employee and directed up the beautiful driveway to the barn area to see the owner. I was surprised when about 8 -10 dogs ran out in the driveway and swarmed around my car... I crept along slowly and parked. Got out and squatted down to greet the dogs, and was covered with kisses and wet noses... very happy dogs... but filthy and stinky!!! I could hear dogs barking from the barn, and then a man came out who appeared to be the owner. I asked for information about the place, but he told me that I needed to call for an appointment. I suggested that since I was already there, maybe he could just tell me about the place or give me some written info... but he seemed irritated and said "No, as I just told you, you need to call for an appointment." I was flabbergasted. Other kennels Ive dealt with have welcomed visitors and have been friendly and quite willing to open their doors, but not here. There were a couple of dogs in fenced in areas, running back and forth along the fence, and this great "swarm" of dogs running loose in the parking lot and the grounds. As I got in my car to leave, discouraged and puzzled by the owners attitude, the dogs again surrounded my car as I backed up and exited, and he just walked toward the house, not seeming to care. I crept along slowly, and made my way out without running over any doggy toes. As I left, another car came in and the dogs all ran to it. So... dirty, unsupervised dogs running loose around the parking lot... dogs barking from the barn on a beautiful day when they could have been outside, an owner who isnt accomodating or even a little friendly to a prospective client... and who wont give a tour of the kennel area without an appointment... that just does not add up to a place where I would leave my dog, and I would not recommend it to anyone else. There are too many other good kennels in Orange County to choose from.

I have used this place 4 times in the past five years. My Mom & sister have also left their dogs here on a few occasions. Each time was for 8 days. Chuck and Teri are very helpful and answer calls/emails promptly. My dog (and my Moms & sisters dog) love it here. When they arrive they are very excited. They jump out of the car to run and play with the other dogs. Yes its true my dog stinks and is dirty, but thats because he has acres of land to run/play and a lake to swim in. The handlers show genuine concern and give feedback on how the dogs did there. My dog is overweight and gets short of breath and my sisters dog has hip problems (we didnt tell them this or ask them for special treatment) but they were attentive and picked up on this and gave extra care to them by keeping their activities limited at times. My dog has always been returned to me happy and healthy. I will continue to use The Pet Camp, as will my family members.

We have been boarding our large-breed dog here for several years. A week before our first visit, our dog had emergency surgery on her abdomen. We thought we would have to cancel our vacation but the Pet Camp guys were great. They watched her closely, walked her on a leash and took her to the vet to get her stitches removed. We have been loyal customers ever since and our pup absolutely loves her time at “camp.” I agree with the other reviewers in that our dog is FILTHY at the end of her stays but that is because she is rolling around in mud, swimming in the lake and playing in the fields. In other words, doggy-heaven. We have had no problems in asking for special treatment; we always supply her own food and she is on daily medication. I feel great knowing that I can take long trips and know that our dog is in great hands

I brought our irish setter and lab to petcamp recently and was very pleased with the results. I brought my dogs to another local boarding facility who recommended petcamp to us when my lab became nervous at her facility. It was a great suggestion for my dogs, the pond and fields were wonderful places for them to play in. When I dropped them off, I was able to walk them to their room ( yes, a refurbished horse stall) and I felt very comfortable with all of the people and animals I met ( so did my 4 1/2 year old daughter). I was also pleased when we returned to pick them up- they were bathed, happy and a little tired from playing for three days. My dogs will be back! If your dog likes to play ball, swim or run in a safe fenched in area, Petcamp would be perfect!
