Academy Sports is a big box store. They have a lot of stuff but you cant always find what you need. The gun counter was staffed with just one guy, its Christmas shopping season. Buying a firearm was a process Ive never encountered before. First they give the purchaser a folder with federal guidelines and laws plus a pamphlet with how to buy a firearm at Academy, which went straight into the recycle bin. You fill out the paperwork at the gun counter the a manager takes the paperwork and the gun up front to pay, the manager still had the gun in his possession, the purchaser makes payment, then the manager escorts the purchaser out of the building where he the turns the firearm over to the customer. Maybe its like that at all big box stores. Anyway just be aware of that process if you are in Academy Sports and you find one of your "bucket list" guns at the right price.

I call this place a mix of the best things about what Sports Authority used to be, REI and Bass Pro Shops all rolled into one fantastically fun place. They have it is if you like to work out and wear cute clothes while doing it. They have all the major brands from Columbia to Nike to Yeti to Under Armor. But the thing I love most is their house brand of workout clothing. Its called BCG and its very well made and VERY affordable. I have had stuff for years from here, I wash it a lot and it has not broken down. Im talking workout leggings and the like. My boyfriend and I also had very good customer service at the gun counter at a location down in Katy, TX, which is where there HQ is located. But havent tried that in STL.

I just made my purchase in your new store. I was impressed. But it was your sales associate who really caught my attention. His name is Barry. He has to be the most friendly and helpful person I have ever dealt with. They dont come any better than Barry. Really a nice guy. Next time I make a purchase I will look for Barry. Great experience. I had to change my review due to the fact that they no longer do the price match with internet sellers. Only reason why I went to Academy was they were able to beat internet seller by 5% but there is no point of buying sutffs there unless you really need them now. I have a strong feeling that this place will out of business soon unless they fix their price match policy.

Fantastic sport & outdoors store. Prices are way better than competitors and the staff is friendly and helpful. I went in for some BBQ stuff and to check out the fishing gear. I must have had a dozen store employees offer to help me find what I was looking for. Just a great place. Take the time to check it out.

Not happy about the March 2017 charcoal and lighter deal being sold out in a day. No mention in ad about "limited quantities" or no rainchecks. But still, good prices on the Academy brand merchandise and seems to be good quality. Will still go back for charcoal. Best price weve found even at everyday pricing.

While it is a good place for sports and outdoor equipment, I dont recommend even looking at a gun here unless you enjoy being flat out ignored by the staff. Customer Service tip: even if youre busy, acknowledge other customers (potential money for the business) and tell them you will be with them shortly.

Everything you need from hunting and fishing to sports gear. Prices are amazing! Thierry policies as far as returns and customer service are great! Staff is helpful but a little unknowledgeable, mostly in the hunting and fishing department. Just a great all around store.

This place is trash! It doesnt even have a Ferris wheel! What type of store doesnt have a Ferris wheel. It also doesnt have a aquarium or a NASCAR simulator. Never come here. The manager tried to fight me when I asked him where the Ferris wheel was. I cried.

The only negative I could say is they had a limited selection in boy soccer cleat socks when I went. BUT staff actually waited on you, conversed with you, and the store seemed to have a good variety of merchandise at a good price point.

Great prices, selection was decent. They just opened so i am sure they are still working out the inventory needs. They do have a wide variety of sporting, outdoors, and fitness options. I cannot wait til they open the one closer to me.

Love this store! Lots of options and low prices. They have their own line of apparel and gear called BCG. The BCG shoes are good for kids who grow quickly as they carry wide width options and they are easy to replace.

Great customer service, dude in the firearms section let me look at several before making my decision, was extremely knowledgeable and not pushy at all. Great prices too. No wonder gander is out of business.

Has everything for the casual outdoorsman to top of the line sports equipment to hunting and fishing to camping and much more. You name it...they got it. They also have a very large firearms selection.

Forget about Cabelas, Dicks, Bass Pro Shops, whoever. Academy is the place to go- theyve been consistently cheaper on every product Ive price checked and there isnt a line to get it at Academy

Prices are outstanding compared to the competition which mails beautiful color sales circulars monthly advertising their sales. People - Guess who pays for these sales circulars & catalogs?

Went their in oct and said that they would have lacrosse in a week I came back in Nov still did not have lacrosse then finally came back in Jan and still did not have lacrosse

Its a playhouse for ALL things outdoors (and even indoors). Hunting/Fishing/Toys/Guns/Apparel, etc. They have it all AND the BEST customer service of ANY retailer :)
