Regretfully, I am disappointed with their bike repair service. This week I asked that they add threads to a used "spring" fork that I was lucky enough to get for $5 (worth more.) They partially wreaked the existing threads and basically created nearly stripped new threads. Although the threads held a race nut by hand, the lock nut would not have held without slipping. They offerred to install the fork so it would loosen. I know from many years of experience working on my bikes that the threads were stripped and they would have used some glue like Locktight, which would fail. They offerred an another used fork that was at least 1.5 shorten so my bike would be leaning forward more. My bike already leans more forward than I prefer. They returned the labor charge, but the fork is scrap. It took a long time to find it and they offerred nothing for my loss. I do not have the speciallized tools to repair my bike and I was relying on them for that service. Given their response, I would not trust them with any special work and would be fearful of any other work. Sorry, I was trying to support a neighborhood business, but they do not know bikes.

Bought skates from this store. Here is my experience. Their selection is nice and their skates are well priced, but that is not why you should buy from them. I went there this morning because the skates I purchased last week did not fit right. I was worried that since I had skated on them once they would not be able to return them. They were very honest and told me the problem was with the quality of the skate itself and offered to sell me an upgrade. Here is where they went above and beyond - The first skate I tried was a better fit but not perfect. I then tried a more expensive skate which of course fit very nice (their skate fitting process is comprehensive and precise). The upgrade skate was more than I could spend so they offered me the skate at a lower price to match what I was able to spend. There was no question of how many times I used the skates I was exchanging and absolutely no hassle - quite the opposite actually. I will never buy skates or hockey gear anywhere else again. This local store does it the right way.

Strauss saved the day!!! Recently my daughters car was broken into and her figure skates were STOLEN. This is a crisis in itself, however, add the fact that she had a competition in THREE days made it a four alarm crisis. It gets better....I was out of the country and my daughter was staying with her grandparents. Her coach quickly stepped in to help and called Janelle at Strauss. Janelle moved quickly to locate the right pair of skates from Reidell in Hastings as well as a set of blades to be mounted. Less than 24 hours later, my daughter was at Strauss getting her boots fitted/heated and blades sharpened. She was able to compete a few days later making it to final rounds and placing third! Without Janelle and Strauss this WOULD NOT have been possible. They made a very stressful situation SO EASY! They handled everything for me. I cannot thank them enough. Go Strauss!!!

Unless you are a big time hockey player, do NOT waste your time here. We brought two pairs of skates in to be sharpened and they were busy and told us it would be about two hours. We came back 4 hours later with our tickets and they said it would be another 20-25 minutes. We wouldnt normally be upset, because they were busy, but someone whose ticket was 45 numbers after ours picked up their skates immediately. To make matters worse, we gave them the 25 minutes and came back, only to have them try to give us the completely wrong skates and then over hear that ours were lost and they needed to find them. The manager blamed being under staffed and didnt even apologize.

Friendly staff. They got to my bike in short time in order to get me fit for the MS 150. However, the thornbite tube they sold me had a rubber failure (not a puncture or rim related issue) the first day I used it. I got maybe 70 miles out of the $10 tube, and my rear derailer already needed adjusting again less than 100 miles later. Overall very dissatisfied with the $90 tuneup cost with what I got.

This is a great place to go to when you need a little advice or just a great place to buy your bike from, a little spendy but really worth it, their staff is excellent the boss is cool and he brings his dog to work with him. Great and friendly lab. I purchased a silver and black Raleigh Cadent smoothest bike Ive ever owned. Thanks guys Ill be back again soon.

I went to Strauss a few years ago after getting crappy service from a national chain sporting goods place. The bike shop at Strauss has never disappointed, their work gets done when they promise, they are knowledgeable, and, most importantly, they are nice and funny! I look forward to a long relationship with Strauss for bike stuff.
