My first visit to Swadesh Supermarket was during the last week of May, 2015 and I bought grocery worth ~ $100. I found the store pretty neat and well stocked then. I bought several products including Mantra Organic Whole Wheat Atta (flour) during my visit. I didnt open the bag of flour until end of June (which was sealed packed in a plastic bag) and to my surprise after I opened the bag I found little brown flour bugs (weevils) within a week of opening. I thought may be it was by chance that I ended up with a defective product and Ill go and get it exchanged/ refunded. So, today when I went in to the store to discuss the matter, they totally refused to do anything about it. They said that they can only refund a product if its still sealed and unused. HOW can someone know if a product is infested by bugs without opening it? After a long heated conversation, the guy agreed to return only half-the-original price of the flour. The flour that had clearly NOT been used at all. I had taken may be a cup of flour out of it and then found little bugs crawling inside it. Later, when I told the guy that its not fair and that I should be refunded all of my money. He started blaming me and plainly refused that theres no way the product was defected or anything whatsoever. He was so over-confident that he mentioned in between that if I could show him even a single bug in the flour then he would pay be double the amount back. Honestly, it wasnt really the challenge but the part of trusting their customer. My husband who was earlier sitting in the car also came inside to store to see what was taking me so long (which I originally thought would be a quick thing but little did I know!!) I reminded the store guy that I had bought ~$100 worth of products from them and only came back with 1 thats priced $11.99 which was genuinely defected. He still didnt care to do anything! In-between our conversation my husband got super annoyed and told him to keep the flour for free and the store guy was getting very rude with us. Eventually as I kept looking in the flour, I found one bug (weevils) finally as they were hiding due to moving the flour bag around and I showed it to him. The store guy got pretty offended and then mentioned I dont know where thats from and mentioned that he woud DO US A FAVOR by refunding 3/4th of the price? REALLY??? It wasnt really about couple of bucks here and there but really about how they handled their customer. Even after seeing the bug that I clearly picked up from inside the flour, he kept refusing to take back the flour. Finally, after wasting our half-an-hour (and after seeing the bug which kinda made him nervous about all the claims he had made earlier!) he reluctantly refunded our original amount. At that point I didnt even care to remind him about his claim of paying us double the amount or whatever!! I just wanted my FAIR price of getting a defected product from them. I honestly would have been fine otherwise even after finding bugs in my flour but now with such horrible customer treatment, Ill never be going back to their store.

I shopped here twice and every time i was disappointed . compared to other Indian stores its pretty big and is close to MOA. I purchased 100$ + worth of groceries few weeks after the store opened hoping that they would carry new stock but after a month or so when i opened the rice bag ( ROYAL SONAMASOORI RICE ) it was full of rice weevils . i had a pretty hard time getting rid of all the weevils which have already spread in my pantry . I had to trash some of the stuff and had to clean every nook and corner of my kitchen just to make sure i got rid of the weevils. when ever i saw any rice weevil iregreted going to this store ,with a toddler at home it was even more challenging to use any pantry pest control. Recently one of my friend said that now they have become more organized and its way better now so i thought of giving it a try . i would say that it was much better but i found couple of dry items that have expired . I was in a hurry so i checked expiry dates for the stuff that i brought for my son . Because of my previous bitter experience i emptied all the stuff that i brought into air tight containers but this time i ended up buying AASHIRWAD 10 LBS MULTI GRAIN ATTA which was tampered and britannia fig rolls which expires in jan 2016. I emptied the whole bag and it had a really odd rancid smell and when i checked the empty bag for expiry date i couldnt find anywhere. they have completely erased BATCH NO, PKD DATE AND MRP , I wish i could add the picture of the bag . I couldnt even return the bag as i have emptied it and it almost costs us the same price for the gas to go the store and get refund( if they give ,its a whole different story) . If u ever want to shop here PLEASE ALWAYS CHECK FOR THE EXPIRY DATE. As i was in a hurry i couldnt check .I would never shop here ever again .

Looked like a new store being set up, there were items without prices. I asked about the price of ghee since they have several sizes of jars and the worker was happy to look it up. Another worker checked to see if I needed anything. Its a good size store with a wide variety of products, including frozen. I was happy to come across this place after finding our local shop had closed. I just wish it was closer! :)

The store needs organising.. boxes block the aisles making it difficult to navigate a shopping cart. Perishables (paneer, veg) were fresh.. Samosas were hot n fresh. Staff was very courteous. I hear a halal meat counter is on the anvil, so waiting for it eagerly.

Buy Indian food in bulk and yes they are cheap. I bought roasted chana which was no longer crispy as it was 1 year old product. Why do they even keep something that is one year old.

New, improved store. New management. Same people who run the store in plymouth. Neat, clean and well maintained. Fresh vegetables. Liked it.

This place has lot of Indian groceries. Try to avoid SWAD products as it has stones and other debris in the packet.
