So last night, me & my best friend (Me & her are both black) decided to go to Hyvee around 2:30 in the morning cause she had just got done closing & we wanted to go to Hyvee to look at the Vegan options. I went earlier that day to the one in Apple Valley & fell in love. Last night we went to the Eagan one. & we were honestly probably better off going back to the one in Apple Valley. So we get to the store. Were both obsessing over everything because they literally have everything. So we finally get to checkout all excited & my friend told me she forgot to get some manderine oranges. So I decided to just go run & find them real quick. I asked one worker in the store if he knew where they were. He asked another older male worker & he said he knew where there were but asked if I had a cart. Why would I need a cart for some oranges? But I explained to him my friend was at the checkout line waiting for me. So the worker brings me to the oranges, we check out. I tell my friend that I wanted to go back & look at the bath bombs because they had so many different colors & smells & it just amazed me. I told you I was literally obsessing over this store. So we go look at the bathbombs for a good 3-5 minutes & during that time we both noticed that we were being watched. So we decide to leave. As were walking out, 4 male workers came chasing after us & asked us if we payed for everything we have. We show them our receipt & bags to show them NOTHING WAS STOLEN. & we werent even given a sincere apology or anything. Then, as were walking out another female worker (who was already outside. She was the first & only person I seen when we walked out.) was outside smoking a cigarette. She hears me & my best friend distraught about what just happened while shes walking inside past the first set of doors. She turns around & starts leaning in the doorway. At this point, I felt so discriminated against, I had to say something. So I asked if there was a problem. She decides to lie & say she was just coming out for a cigarette even though me & my friend just seen her smoking one, & she was already through the first set of doors to walk back inside & only turned back after she heard us. Never going there again. I love Hyvee but this one really ruined our entire experience. So disappointing. Go to the Hyvee in Apple Valley. Its so much better.

The friendliest staff I have ever encountered in a retail store of any kind. Since day one (I visited on opening day) they are smiles, hellos, and "can I help you?" The store is beautiful and really well maintained. The produce is artistically faced and always looks attractive. They also maintain a great organic/health-focused specialty area. Really diverse options! The bakery is top notch, and I have ordered a custom tiered caked from the special desert department. Just looking at that display case is enough to ruin your blood sugar. Everything looks amazing. The cake was well made a satisfied my opinionated 5yo. I have used Hyvee Eagans catering as well, several times, with really positive experiences. They are in time and very reasonably priced. The food quality was on part with any quality catering Ive ever tried. The choices arent the most adventurous but they have good vegetarian and gluten free options. The liquor store has a good variety of craft beer at reasonable prices. They are also great with kids.

I have been very impressed with Hy-Vee. The store is clean and well stocked. The associates are kind and helpful as needed. I have been there with my children and the kids have been offered samples, fruit and cookies as well. It makes shopping easier for me, and as a busy mom, I appreciate all the help I can get. I also like that they have hi-end (so to speak) and specialty items while maintaining a core of more standard grocery items at standard costs. They have great sales in their meat department too. There are probably more features I am unaware. For example, I have not used their online delivery yet, but can update this review at a later date once I know more about that offering. I would highly recommend people at least check it out. If you dont desire to leave your grocery store, I think their bakery, deli and restaurants have a lot to offer people who even only need some catering for a special occasion.

Hy-Vee has been open for one month in Eagan. This store is larger than its competitors and accordingly has a greater variety of products. In addition, there are many specialty areas: a bakery with an incredible number of desserts, a wonderful deli section, various fast food counters, and even a clothing section. You can even grab a cup of mocha or coffee at Starbucks. The staff is extraordinarily friendly and helpful; you wont have trouble finding someone if you need assistance. So ... why no fifth star? .... aside from some of their advertised weekly specials, Hy-Vee is expensive! A 24 oz. bag of Eight Oclock coffee at Walmart is $12.98 ... Hy-Vees price: $16.99! Ouch!!

I really dislike Hy-Vee. I will go 15 minutes out of my way to any other grocery store in the twin cities. First, the good things. Its big, its clean, and the employees are pretty helpful. Next, the bad. They have very disingenuous marketing, from marking items as on sale with the on sale signs having the same price as normal. They do not clearly advertise which items are at a discounted price or which items you need a card for. The layout of the store is absolute garbage. The same item is 4 different places in the store. They also aggressively display organic food while literally hiding the no organic food around the corner. Why? Why did you design a store so poorly?

Competition is good. There are SO MANY grocery store choices in the Twin Cities we are running out of niches. If you shop at them all you wont have enough room in your wallet for all the loyalty cards or may have to start carrying a popular with youth lanyard to hang them all on. Hy-Vee provides so many choices and options it is just too much. I rate it four stars because the service and diverse offerings are remarkable. I do not believe they are the best at anything in the market though and will have trouble differentiating themselves in the market. Not quite the highest quality or price. Maybe just right OR maybe just spread too thin.

Pros: Good service, good selection. Cons: Deceptive meat prices, meat is often sold in terms of a piece of meat approximately 5oz for $X. When the rest of the world sells meat at price per pound, selling meat this way send to be intentional to make it hard to price compare. They sell a 5lbs "value" pack of meat at $35, however if you price of the meat at the rate of $7/lbs, its a terrible value. Sirloin is not the amazing cut off meat Hy-Vee claims it is. And bacon wrapping everything does not add value. TL;DR Good food and quality, but do your homework when shopping to avoid the rip-offs claiming to be deals.
