SIGHHHHHHHHHHH........55.5 years old here and I grew up at the Hudsons/Marshall Fields & Macys all my life with, naturally my Mom taking me there all through my childhood for shopping. I also worked at Hudsons in 85/86 "ish" and shopped there right up until the past 5-10 years when it really went downhill. Since Macys closed day before yesterday, I dont see, at all how the malls going to stay open. Just spoke with the mall management office 5 minutes ago and was, of course, told by the woman working there that theres "no intention" of it closing. However I guarantee anyone that all the staffs been told (threatened?) to say that no matter what. VERY, very sad that Macys closed due to a combination of demographics change from its shopping population evaporating, the destruction of Detroit spilling over into Harper Woods, online shopping, possible over saturation of brick & mortar stores and the crime that over took the mall however minor many of the malls ardent supporters might think it was/is. It used to be SO, so beautiful and classy. I know that the one constant in life is change but that doesnt mean that all that change is easy to take. What an incredible shame and loss that all us east siders looking to shop for anything decent, let alone high quality have had to drive at least 25-35 minutes to either Oakland or Somerset Macys for years now. Just search "Hudsons Eastland Mall vintage" on Youtube for some wonderful videos of how beautiful it was back in the late 50s & early-to-mid 60s.....there were koi ponds with metal sculptures AND lotus blossom plants no less w/custom landscaping all around! And they used to have Easter "parades" for Gods sake with women shoppers whod dress up for it and do the same with their children and participate in the "parade"! MAJOR bummer <:-(

Unfortunately since Macys is about to close, I fear that this mall is in its final stages. Its sad to see how much it has deteriorated throughout the years despite the number of great small stores and good workers within. The crowd isnt the best, the parking lot is FULL of pot holes and theyve had quite a few incidences of violence in the past couple of years which is quite alarming. But I hope they can turn this malls image around before it is too late.

I honestly dont feel safe shopping at this mall. I would rather shop at northland mall (which is now closed). Ive been to a lot of stores in Detroit (Downtown and outside of downtown) and I avoid this mall like crazy. I would advise everybody else to do the same. Ive seen so many fights break out at this mall. Thankfully I dont shop here anymore but every time I read about violence or another robbery at this mall. GO AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Growing up in the early 90s, this mall was the place to be. It had something for everyone. It had a movie theater, a full food court with more than just 3 restaurants, and it was just full of life and characters. Now its just dead, and almost every summer we hear something about someone getting shot or shot at there. I havent been there in 7 years, and it doesnt look like its going to change.

Unfortunately it has fallen from greatness. As a child with my mother and eventually as a young man on my own many a hard earned dollar was spent at this wonderful shopping center. But as all good things must come to an end so has this mall. As the "Great Recession" impacted the nation like a giant wave it took a heavy toll on this mall and its surrounding neighborhood.

I dont know if the rumors are true about the mall closing, but I really hope that it continues to stay in operation. Its the only mall in the area, many elderly go there for their daily walk or just somewhere to go to get away from home. This is the only source of income for many of the employees, so for the sake off the people, please keep this place open.

I walked into Brooks Brothers asking for a Classic white shirt, I was told by the salesman to go to Burlington Coat Factory or K &G. If I wanted that, thats where I would have went! Why would a salesman at a top quality store suggest you go to a store of less quality! Service was poor, felt somewhat discriminatory, felt like he just wanted us to leave.

If judged by looks alone its rather dirty, outdated, and generally unwelcoming. If youre able to get past the looks, a shopping experience would reveal it to be wholly lacking of any quality stores and likely demonstrate its high crime rate (especially theft). Setting the entirety of those issues aside Eastland easily approaches mediocrity.

My family and I grew up coming to this Mall back in the early 90s and It was one of the top shopping malls around that time. As of 2017, this mall seems to be headed down the same road as Northland. I hate to see it go but there is literally nothing left to hold on too, most of the major stores have pulled out.

This mall is dead! I think Macys will be gone soon. all the stores are run down. the customer service at most all the stores is horrible. They do have a store called the Print Shop that makes custom t-shirts and clothing, they are a good quality but way over priced. Eastland mall needs to just start over.

Eastland sucks now. Theres nothing left here. Its really sad considering this place once had a Macys, JC Penney and Sears. I worked here all through high school. Kids in this area now, I dont know where they will go to find jobs, but no big businesses are currently investing in Eastland.

This mall used to be the best place to shop but now that a lot of the major stores have closed like Macys and JC penny it has lost that feeling of being a classy place to shop. Most of the stores are low end stores and are somewhat getto. I dont enjoy shopping there at all now.

When I was younger Eastland was very nice now it reminds me of a flea market. Macys was holding it together now with that gone I really dont see Target staying any longer. Its close and its convenient. Wishful thinking that this would turn back into a real mall one day.

While its nice to go to a mall that is not crowded, this mall is downright scary. There have been multiple shootings at this mall, including one recently when a new sneaker was being released! Worth taking a drive elsewhere, there are much nicer malls within 15 miles.

My favorite mall growing up. Although the economy has trickled down to make Eastland become what it is today. As far as the stores, its simple marketing. There are many teens, and young adults in the area, which in turn makes the marketers meet the supply and demand.
