Ive had such mixed experiences with Washtenaw Dairy. It seems like when it goes right here, it goes really right. And when it goes wrong, it goes really wrong. As for what goes right--the ice cream is great. That lemon custard is outstanding, and Ive never seen anything like it anywhere else. So I tend to get a kiddie size of that, and I end up with a giant and affordable portion. People tend to go nuts over their donuts, but I think theyre just okay. As for what goes wrong--the line can be overwhelming, the seating inside is dark and the tables often sticky, and recently we had a bad customer service experience. To explain the customer service thing... my fiance and I both took the commuter challenge, and thus both received coupons for a free scoop of ice cream. One day last week we were out biking on the Old West Side and thought, hey, lets go see if we can redeem the coupons from our phones. We waited in line for a while before we got to ask someone, and the guy turned out to be really brusque with us. His answer was no, which I do and do not understanding (do, in that they can do whatever they want. dont, in that his logic didnt actually make sense.). We asked to speak with a manager and when someone finally came over, he just said "No." and turned on his heels and walked directly away from us. Ive never seen anything like it. No discussion, no back and forth, just "No" and walk away. It felt really rude and inappropriate, and while we were admittedly hassling them a bit because it felt illogical and unfair, its weird to have a customer service representative just turn and walk away while youre talking.

This place gives you humongous scoop sizes. I paid $4.50 for two scoops and ended up with more ice cream than I could finish. I eat LOTS of ice cream, so it was quite a statement to the how big the serving are. I tried out a couple flavors and ended up with Triple Chocolate and Cookie and Cream. They were both flavorful and Id get them again given the price. The atmosphere has a very neighborhood feel, there isnt much around the place expect for houses. I arrive when there was a group of child musicians playing some orchestral music. Overall, its a good ice cream spot!

Had a pretty good milkshake here. Ann Arbor has a lot of competition in the food scene and there are lots of really great places to grab a milkshake. Washtenaw had the most number of flavors of the places I tried and it had scooped ice cream flavors vs the (also good) syrups other places in Ann Arbor used. I cant remember what the name of the flavor I tried was (it had the word Island in it) but it had chocolate covered caramel and was really good in a milkshake. Would recommend visiting here as well as Ann Arbor in general.

Had to stop in here for some ice cream since my Dad grew up going to this place. The service was excellent - a huge group was in front of me taking their time choosing flavors, but the other employee working the counter quickly and efficiently helped me while they were deciding. The superman ice cream was delicious and I was seriously not expecting to get that much ice cream for a "single scoop". Ill definitely be back on my next trip to Ann Arbor!

Im just a pregnant lady who wanted some ice cream. I was really excited when I saw they were still open at 8:30. I walked in and the line looped around the tables. The line wasnt even clear so as I navigated where the end was some rude ass people cut in front of me. Really good ice cream but not worth waiting for 40 ppl to go before me. I immediately grew angry and left

i grew up going there, it was great going there after school or meeting friends. maybe about 15 years ago they stopped making their own ice cream. now they dont even let you use their bathroom. low quality ice cream not neighborhood oriented whats the point? from now on ill make the trek downtown or buy a pint at the grocery store.

Very rude employees. I went in a few days ago to try to use a coupon. They wouldnt accept it, which wouldnt have been a problem if they had a legitimate reason (the problem wasnt the coupon itself, that was perfectly valid), but when I asked to speak to the manager, he came over, and walked away while I was talking. Very rude.

Ive been going to Washtenaw Dairy for 20 years, but my last experience there was not a good one. All I wanted was to get my two year old and myself some ice cream, but was ignored while standing at the counter. Stood there forever until asked if I had been helped. I just walked out disappointed for my daughter and myself.

Love the doughnuts (try the coconut one), and the ice cream serving size is double what I expected. Staff is friendly, and it is nice to see the regulars stop by there for coffee and doughnuts while they read the papers. One down side is they dont have restrooms, which could be problematic if you drink too much coffee.

An Ann Arbor cant miss. The line is long because the ice cream is great and because while families come here together. If youre from town you will run into people you know and if not you will probably have a good conversation with someone in line or while squeezing onto a bench with your ice cream.

The ice cream was delicious and they heap it on, a kids scoop wouldve been good for me. The only reason I have it a low score is because the employees werent very friendly. I left a tip and a big thank you but wasnt even acknowledged by the guy. Customer service is crucial to a good experience.

Hands down the best bang for your buck in terms of ice cream or donuts in Ann Arbor! I honestly prefer this place over the fancier shops (yes, Im talking to you Blank Slate). Friendly staff, fun atmosphere, and MASSIVE portions! I always ask for a kids cone and they give me 3 giant scoops!

You may not know or understand it yet, but your life is not complete until youve tried a Washtenaw Dairy donut. The donuts here are crunchy on the outside and dense, yet fluffy on the inside - I have no idea how they do it, but they are amazing. 5 Stars for three words: "Maple Glazed Donut"

Friendly place with friendly faces. Sit down and relax and have a cup of coffee take the kids for ice cream or pick up the necessities like milk creamer and the occasional six pack. Support your Ann Arbors best business and a true classic ice cream store from back in the day.

Everyone seems to come to Washtenaw Dairy for the ice cream, though they dont make it themselves. Its good ice cream, but not out of the ordinary. What IS out of the ordinary (read: amazing) are the donuts. If you grab them first thing in the morning you wont be disappointed.
