I cannot say enough about how much I love Vault. There is something for everyone, be it comics, board games, collectibles, manga, art, game dice, Japanese candy, its endless. If youre like me, and not sure where to start with so many options, you can talk with the incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and well versed staff, many of whom have been in the business for years and years. Or, as I tend to do, you listen to their podcast Super Skull to learn about the weekly new comics (and make my choice from there). As long as you can provide a guideline about what you think youre into (my fav genre is kick-ass women, for example) or whomever you might be shopping for, theyre sure to have something! Ive been introduced to a ton of comics I wouldnt have known to pick up, otherwise. And dont get it stuck in your mind that comics are only super heroes and villains. Youve find beautiful art, deep and emotional story telling, and great humor everywhere you look. If they dont have something in the store, its super easy to have them order it for you! Comics are just one small aspect to this great business. Other reviewers have mentioned the stores board game collection, which is just massive. Im not much for board games, but some of my friends are. Theyve been recommended numerous games, which weve played together, and Ive always had a lot of fun! Vault also puts on events (usually every couple of weeks or so), and those are quick to fill up. The atmosphere of the shop is just always so cheery and lively, and you can tell the employees are passionate about their jobs.

Vault is a great comic, game, and collectible shop. Im not as much into comics as I once was, but their board game collection is fantastic. I also want to note how great their store layout and display are. The game displays on the lower level and just fantastic. Even with a crowd, its easy to see whats on the shelf, wander the aisles, and check out whats new. The comic area has the exact same vibe. Its a little thing, but it makes all the difference in the world and really makes for an amazing experience. That said, I actually give them a 4.5 out of 5. I hate to complain since I really love the place, but a few of the staff occasionally take on the trendy comic shop vibe where you get the sense that theyre tolerating your uncool presence. Like when you ask a question and they respond with something that isnt an answer but rather a demonstration of their knowledge and your lack of it? They dont all do this at all - most are really great which is why I still gave it 5 stars - but there are a few and this has been true for years. That said, its a minor thing, and this is a great shop.

Vault of Midnight specializes in comics and board games. The selection of both is superb. The comic book selection includes a wide variety of current comics, as well as numerous collections, special volumes, and novelty comics. A wide variety of games are displayed both in the front of the store, and in the basement. While you will not find games like Risk in the selection, rest assured there is something much more fun to be found. In between, around, and all over the comic and game selection are knick-knacks of all varieties, such as superhero busts, anime action figures, and plush bacteria toys. Vault of Midnight also has numerous events including signings, regular game nights, and other fun things. I went to a few of these while I lived in Ann Arbor and had a good time. There is a weekly email newsletter available for sign up if you want to keep on top of events. If you are looking for comics, interesting (non-mainstream) games, or geek/nerd loot, Vault of Midnight is the place to go.

Great store! Totally earned its "best comic book retail store" award from 2010. Very helpful with recommendations and subscriptions. On top of that, the employees do not resemble trolls or blobs. Thats a big plus in an industry traditionally filled with variations of The Simpsons Comic Book Guy. EDIT: Im lowering my rating by two stars for one reason: an employee who is consistently not nice and/or rather unhelpful. Compared to the other full-time employees, this person is much less enthusiastic about the business and about talking with the customers. I wish I could report differently because everything else about the store is pretty great, but I cant.

Need comics book? Need board game? Need fun? Well the best place EVER in all Ann Arbor. The staff is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G like Peter. They are wonderful like Diana! A super service at the level of Clark himself. They are never depress like Bruce... And definitely as fun as Wade! Any question, any request, they will find you the answer faster than Ed would do! You need more? Believe me, even Bruce wont turn green in those friends hands. With them, Tony wont like anymore fancy than you!!!!

The Vault is spectacular. I honestly have never been in another comic shop as comfortable, fun, and vibrant as the Vault of Midnight. There are always great employee recommendations on the walls, an immense graphic novel selection, board games galore, and fabulous figurines. If you need anything, the employees are always willing to make suggestions or help you find something and are even just fun to talk to! The Vault is an Ann Arbor staple and treasure.

The best comic book store around - the selection of graphic novels is huge, and in the basement they have an amazing selection of games. The only downside is that the staff is so into the product that they often are engaged in extended conversations about a particular book or series with another customer, which can make a challenge to get help when you want it. Gratefully theres enough browsing material to keep you busy for as long as you care to stay.

I ventured into the Vault of Midnight while walking down Main St. several months ago. The selection can be pretty overwhelming for someone whos relatively new to comics. The staff, especially Chris, did an amazing job at helping me find a book that matched my interests. Ask any regular and theyll agree, the true heroes of the Vault arent on the shelves, but rather behind the counters. Officially hooked and yet to get a recommendation that disappointed.

I showed my buddy from colorado this place, and he was blown away at the selection of comics/mangas/ board games aswell! Its a MUST visit if you are visiting or passing through Ann Arbor. I also like that if you want to buy a boardgame and dont know how to play it, they have a board game room with a demo type version of the board game so you can try it before you purchase! Its genius. 5/5 will visit again when I return to Michigan.

Staff are incredibly knowledgeable and there is such a wide variety of items carried. After asking questions about some of their weekly comics they carry we asked about good places to visit around the city, they had great recommendations on that even and we had a wonderful night. Absolutely would suggest making this a spot to visit on your next trip to Ann Arbor!

THE best comic shop. Period. Bar none. Comics, toys, games and all things awesome. This is the comic store you wanted as a kid. Bright and amazing atmosphere. The staff is all around great, knowledgeable and friendly. This is not a crusty, stale hole in the wall with grumpy staff who are sick of answering questions. Bring your kids. Something for everyone here.
