This is one of the dumpiest supermarkets around, especially that this store is many peoples only choice for supermarkets within Lawrence. Just by going to the North or the South a bit, you can get much better sale prices at Stop & Shop which is somewhat offset by their somewhat higher regular prices but my bill still comes out to be 20% less at Stop & Shop when I take the strategy of stocking up on nonperishables when on sale. Most of the stuff here that sells for a lower price is of lower quality (the meat that is priced lower is select grade which is the lowest quality around; in the case of produce, they buy the lower priced stuff that is smaller and/or older which is less flavorful or they buy it from another country when competitors offer the same item either locally grown or at least form somewhere in the US). All this makes this store to be more like Walmart than a true local business.

Market Basket as a whole is a sweet business; a peoples place. This particular store keeps all corporate values. Good customer service. Good price. Goods offered in store meeting local needs. The meat is good price here. Fruits are always fraich and available. Theres no on-site café like in Chelsea, but it is fine. There is not well developed Bakeries and cakes service, but we love it. We get more breads with Label "Heart Healthy", 100% whole wheat, and breads with "No Artificial Preservatives, Colors or Flavors; and the revolutionary "No High Fructose Corn Syrup" is only $2.50.

In Lawrence, Essex St. It doesnt even feel or look like any, (ALL) other Market Baskets I have been 2. All the time items, especially, in the Dairy; but then again it happens in the Meat and Deli. We always say we wont go back 2 that 1 but sometimes we have $. Anyways, I used 2 work in 1 and I cant believe the managers or District managers havent fixed the problem after all these years. I cant believe its still a M.B.
