I have been shopping at many of the Market Baskets for 20 years while I was on the road as an Insurance Professional. With the exception for the newer multi-sized store in Everett, most of the other stores had the problems that were listed by ??? Now that I am retired, I shop mostly at the store in Burlington/Lexington on the Middlesex Turnpike. Ever since they moved into their larger location within the same Mall, things have gotten much better: better service (under supervision of various mangers, especially Peter Morris & Cashier Suprvsors, Theresa & Jude; the isles R much wider; and stock is better organized. It is true that some of the personnel barely speak any English & dont understand it, but if U get in touch w/one of the managers (I know it is time-consuming), they will make sure U get what U need or find out which isle it is located. Overall, the shopping experience is much better than it used 2 B; however, it is still not perfect. If U bring UR issues 2 the attention of any of the front-of-store managers, U will get both proper response as well as efforts will B made 2 correct an on-going persistent problem. All I can say is that my shopping experiences at Market Basket R considerably better than my experiences at Stop & Shop or Star Market. I dont live close enough 2 Whole Foods; but I am going 2 check out Trader Joes soon. I have been told that the customer service staff is much better than any other store--well see!!! JCP

Wegmans has opened up the road which makes this place look expensive. Shop Wegmans selection of family packs and buy them whenever possible and you will very easily pay lower than shopping here. Examples - 90% ground beef - $4.99/lb here; $3.59/lb at Wegmans. Even Shaws has reduced prices, which means that you arent really yielding much savings when shopping here as they offer a $5 off $50 coupon all the time on a website called Recyclebank. Service is very variable here - there are employees that could care less while some care quite a bit. On average, it is still below its competitors. They can never seem to figure out how to control their checkout lines even though their competitors do just fine controlling their crowds when they have them. Ive seen Trader Joes with every much of a dense crowd as Market Basket yet lines never get longer than 3 people long there. As someone that has at least a few thousand dollars worth of party platter business each year, that business easily goes elsewhere based on quality due to the low quality deli meats they use in their sandwiches. Frankly, I think Stop & Shop even has a better quantity for the price value proposition in that department, and then they also have a better quality than MB. They also offer curbside pickup service for $2.95 extra and I can usually find a promotion that offsets the cost of that.

Im a huge MB fan! The Burlington store is OLD (probably and old A&P store?) and could certainly use refurbishment. But do I need pretty big aisles to turn around and spend $50-$100 more a month at Shaws Waltham near where I live? Also the staff has remained absolutely stable in the 4 years Ive been there, and are generally fast, polite, and professional. My experience at Shaws was pretty rich kids who loved the paycheck but groaned about having to work for it. Plenty of parking and plenty of exits with traffic lights (!) too. You MIGHT find some things at a cheaper price on sale at Shaws but generally Ive found that Shaws sale prices are merely just down to the same as the regular price at MB. NOTE: Their dairy section is unbeatable - I actually like their $2.39/gallon (!) skim milk better than any other store brand Ive ever had. I dont even buy organic anymore because its so good - just organic whole milk for coffee (which they have at about 40% less than Shaws too).

I have been shopping at the Burlington Market Basket since 1992. The prices are really great. I always tell people that Market Basket is, "my store". I did not shop there when the employees walked out in 2014. I spoke to Mr. Pappas (one of the top managers for Market Basket) when he was making the rounds. I told him there should be more diversity, especially the African Americans are not represented among the employees in Burlington. Mr. Pappas stated that he could hire 6 of the African Americans "right away" if they apply. I spoke to the assistant store manager and he said they were not hiring at this time. It seems to me that they do not communicate with each other and do not know if they are hiring or not. Market Basket, being an important institution in Massachusetts, must make an affirmative, proactive, and serious effort and then actually hire more African Americans to reflect diversity of population in Massachusetts.

I approached the meat department and requested two BONELESS sirloin steaks a certain thickness. I was told, on a Friday afternoon around 4:00 P.M., that the equipment was being cleaned and that he couldnt cut any meat? I responded that was boneless sirloin and can be cut with a knife, he just shrugged his shoulders and walked away. I would have fired him on the spot if I was the store mgr. A week or so later I was looking for a specific bread and asked an employee for help. She clearly did not understand what I was asking for and instead of seeking another employee to assist she turned back to what she was doing and ignored me. Customer service is clearly lacking in this store which is why I shop at the Wilmington Market Basket where the service there is excellent.

Simply put, you go there for the price, nothing more. On the average cart, you will always come out cheaper. If you have boatloads of time to shop around for each individual item, more power to your and thanks for supporting the petroleum industry. Hey sabrina, if you need to be entertained, coddled have eye-pleasing layouts, go to Stop and Shop, Shaws or anyplace else and pay to your hearts content. Instead of paying $2.49 for cream cheese at S & S Ill play $1.89 at Market Basket. Ive lived in Mass and shopped at Market Basket since 1980, from Lowell to North Andover to Woburn to Burlington, Nashua, Chelmsford and Fitchburg. Word has it that negotiations are in the works to expand into the old Homegoods space.

The Middlesex Mall MB is by far the worst. A smaller store needs more care over inventory control, but this store has less, usually overstocking one flavor of an item while out of stock on most flavors. The staff and other patrons are always inconsiderate, leaving their shopping cart or restocking load positioned where just one completely blocks an aisle. Even with the narrow aisles in this store a moment of extra attention would be enough to leave room for someone else to get by. The location is perfect for me and the prices (as with any MB) are great. So this is the store I shop in most. But I frequently regret it. When I spend the extra time and gas to go to a different MB, shopping is a pleasure.

This is a very good Market Basket. Brand new store - if you went to the old one this is a huge upgrade. Very large store. Traffic in the area can back up. Sit down area for eating food. Not quite as nice as Oxford, but less hassle than either Chelsea or Somerville and better stocked. There is a large H-mart supermarket (appears to be run by Koreans) next door which is tidy for an oriental store, for all your weird food needs. At about ~110,000 sq ft, slightly longer to shop than the smaller stores. Employees are helpful, friendly, most speak English well. Now if we can just train them to bag correctly. Bake shop often runs out of Italian and French bread before closing.
