There are a few exotic coffees (cortado, aeropress, pourover), but nothing you wont find at any other cafe. The pastries are few in number and are pretty standard fare. So why on Gods green earth would anyone want to go to Blue State Coffee? The True Blue house coffee. A strong, dark roast (unlike what youd find at DD) that is not burned (unlike what youd find at Starbucks). The beans are from Costa Rica, much like most of their coffee beans. Its also fair-trade and sustainable, so I dont feel like a fascist for drinking it. It works really well with just a dab of milk and turbido sugar; although its fine as is. Simplicity is the name of the game at Blue State Coffee House. If you just want a really good dark roast, Blue State is one of the better places to go in Boston. I probably wouldnt have discovered it had not been for the Disloyal Boston Card.

I go to this place 1-3 times/wk depending on how much time I have (it is nowhere near on my way to anything)... the best coffee shop in Boston. Best Mocha I have ever had (they use actual dark chocolate and mix it with the espresso). Have had a few things to eat there, and they all taste fresh. Turkey sausage breakfast sandwich is great. Even though I consider myself to be a meatatarian, I tried the chick-pea vegan tuna... and it was actually better than tuna. Havent had anything here that was not top notch. Also, they donate a significant amount of their profits to non-profit organizations of their patrons choosing. They have choices for you to select from and vote for (with a little token each time you order), and they give explanations of each organization so you can know something about them... not just a name.

Im not a coffee expert, nowhere near one actually, but even I can taste the difference between an iced coffee here and one from Dunkin Donuts. The coffee shop has a fair amount of tables, and there is free wifi for coming and getting some work here. The staff are very friendly, and when you pay you get a token which is used to vote for which charity the company gives money to. I like that they give back to the community, and they also take a lot of pride in serving the best possible coffee. If you are going to pay premium prices for coffee, skip the Starbucks and come to a local business that cares about their customers and community.

This is one of the best places to study in Allston. The coffee is delicious, and the food options are reasonably priced. There is plenty of seating and the atmosphere is perfect for getting lots of work done. Blue state also does a good job of keeping the music down and the volume level overall stays very quiet. One side note, the service gets pretty slow when things get busy. My advice, go early before the crowds.

Cashier was friendly but the barista was a little rude. Coffee was good but kind of expensive. Despite all this, its a great place to work/study and they have a really cool donation thing going. Im not really sure how it works though, I didnt know if I could just take one of the voting chips, so I didnt do anything. Maybe the baristas could clarify that when people order?

Friendly staff & socially conscious -- Blue State donates some of their profits to local charities. Be patient for a seat; the MacBook-toting undergrads will (eventually) mosey to class. Highlights: Mocha (Coffee + Chocolate), Cortado, Turkey Sriracha, Smoked Ham & Swiss Panini, Bread Pudding, Maine Root Beer, Taza Chocolate.

Good solid 3 stars! Who whipped this place together? Like a dunkin donuts. Zero atmosphere lights are harsh. Not a place you want to chill. Staff is not ever real friendly, but efficient . Pastries always taste old, but coffee is good! And thats the main event, so take it to go, and you are good!

The coffee is good, but the sandwiches are nothing to write home about. Also, the huge windows at the front of the store seem to magically focus the sunlight into deadly laser beams that make the first 30 feet of the store essentially impossible to sit in without being set on fire.

Good coffee with reasonable price right in front of Boston University. If youre talking about coffee, their cups are delicious. However, poor wifi, seating and decoration. I sat down for just 10 mins, and decided to close my laptop due to their super poor wifi connection.

As a real barista lover. They arent treat the machine as they should be. It has to be cleaned allways also the surroundings. But it hasnt. Also tables, chairs and floor is not clean. But the cappuccino was oke and half the staff was friendly.

We stopped in for dessert on a brutally cold night, and the effort was worth the trip. The cannoli selection is large, with many combinations of shell and filling available. The taste was exquisite. The prices are reasonable.

They donate a lot of money to a bunch of local charities. Customers vote for where the money goes and theyve raised over $750,000 for a variety of causes. The food and drinks are good too, with a nice variety.

Nice place to study and grab something light to eat or drink. I had a chocolate peanut butter banana smoothie which had large chunks of banana than I had hoped tho

Great location for a quick coffee but nothing to blow your mind away. Purchased their coffee beans a couple of times and they never had freshly roasted bags.

I had a multi-seed bagel and it was very tasty. Quality food, friendly service and I like that they donate money from every purchase to a non-profit.

Decent breakfast options. Lattes are well prepared. Espresso machine does not look well cared for.

Get the cold brewed Iced Coffee. Its got a great robust flavor to it, similar to a coffee stout.
