I recently relocated to Eureka. I am a carpenter by trade. "Shafers" Ace Hardware: Ive been doing carpentry work since I was a kid and let me tell you after 3 separate "visits" to Shafers AW and talking to the staff about certain tools, paint, etc.; I was surprised they actually worked at a hardware store. After asking one clerk where a certain part that I needed was, he pointed me down to where it was. Unfortunately, they didnt have the part, so I told the same clerk that they were were either out or dont carry the product I was looking for. This man looked at me as if I was an idiot and I didnt know what I was doing in a hardware store...it was actually hilarious. He rushed to where he said the part was, picked up a part (that was the wrong part) and said in arrogant way, "Here! This is what youre looking for!" It wasnt a question like, Is THIS what you are looking for? It was an angry statement. After explaining to me that it is definitely the right one (being an a-hole the whole time), I knew this man was either stubborn as a mule or on some kind of narcotic. At this point, I was ready to put him in his place by explaining in MORE in detail to where there arent any detail left that YOU DONT HAVE THE PART! However, I guess you have to be a local to be decently treated. One more thing that was pretty damn funny was a conversation I was having with a young clerk (very nice young man...seemingly) and I brought up Home Depot (nothing good or bad) and the tune changed instantaneously. He actually started to LECTURE in a stern manner to me about how big business is trying to take over in this world. In my head Im thinking, "Listen, Im 30 years older than you. I understand how economics work. AND Ace Hardware IS a chain hardware store. Just because you put Shafers in front doesnt change the fact." BUT, being new to town, I used my better judgment and nodded my head in agreement. SO...if you want crappy customer service by clerks that havent a clue what theyre talking about, go to Shafer’s. But if you dont, the other hardware/lumber store off Myrtle Ave. (even though have a smaller selection) have far superior knowledge and the customer service is excellent and will special order anything you need.

Called at 6:05PM asking if they had a certain type of ammo reloading powder, they lady changed her tone from cheerful and friendly to instantly being rude and raised her voice telling me that department is closed call back in the morning. I told her thats fine if im not able to buy it tonight but i was curious to know if they carried it and if she was able to look and see if it was in stock at the least. Her words "what did i just tell you, the guy left for the day, call - back - tomorrow!" I want to say her name was bethany or becky. Either way she was very rude and in other words told me they dont want my business. I manage a business and would be very disapointed if my employees treated my potential customers in that manner. I have a feeling she was not pro 2A and didnt want to help me due to her personal beliefs.

Man I just came from Shafers Ace Hardware. I visited the nursery, taking in a sick plant I hoped to save. I was greeted by Ahmed, I hope I spelled his name correctly. He looked at my plant, got information on how to help it (from Holly another wonderful staff member) and transplanted it into a newly purchased (1/2 off pot) that he helped me locate. What service! So I just want to say to the management. Because of this excellent service I will make Shafers Ace Hardware my go to place. It is clear to me that you train your staff to go that extra mile for their customers. That is what is making your business a success and what helps it to grow!!

typical my experience at Shafers is acceptable as long as it dont require expert advice. recently after purchasing some plumbing fittings i was not given a receipt. when i later attempted to return some of the parts the woman working at the register was very rude. she cut me off as iwas expaining the situation and assumed i wasnted to return the parts. i explained that exchanging them would be fine. i then found that they did not carry the part i needed and was told by the man working in the plumbing dept. that he had never seen it. of course the other local hardware store had them in stock but i was stuck with the fittings from shafers.

With every visit, I remind myself why I even try to find what I need here. Rude staff, can never find a knowledgeable employee, and overpriced stock. Im all for small, family businesses, but not for ones that treat customers (even locals) like crap, overcharge (rape) the customers, and then whine about "big box stores" putting small business out. This Ace hardware is more like a Joker. Cant wait for a Home Depot to come to town.

Everyone is friendly and knowledgeable. Open at night, unlike most hardware stores. They enlarged their paint section and I really like that. If they make a mistake, they go above and beyond to make up for it. I like the free popcorn! Im glad to have a hardware store right in the middle of town. Convenient. Prices are a little higher than Piersons, but you still save on gas shopping in the middle of town.

Ask for something and they dont know what you are talking about . Then they want to know what you are trying to do with what you asked for -- then they want to tell you how to do the job when they havent seen the job or they want to sell you something that doesnt apply to what you are doing. Where do they find these people and why do they let them talk on the phone ?

Ive spent a lot of money at this store, but will never be going back. Not only is the selection very limited, but the staff was extremely rude. After my experience today, I wish Id never given them any business. Other stores in the area have a much better selection, lower prices and decent customer service. No need to waste money at Shafers.

I just moved into the neighborhood from another part of town, & its so helpful to have a hardware store so close. And the people are really personable & knowledgeable! They really make you feel comfortable coming back with your questions and problems!

I like that they keep the products in the same place consistently so I can find what I need no trouble. They have a little of everything youd need in hardware supplies
