NOT recommended for bike rental!!! I place a reservation for 2 bikes and a child seat attachment as a xmas present for my husband in early Dec. When we went to pick up the bikes (in APRIL) we were sent to 2 different locations to "look for" the seat. One of the locations was the Brunswick campground, which was good bc at least there was a playground to entertain our 3 year old while we waited AN HOUR AND A HALF for someone to show up to help us. When he finally did show up, he looked pretty stoned and didnt give us any eye contact or speak to us in any meaningful way. He said he needed to fix the toddler seat and then rushed away. I yelled to him to see if it would be a 5 min fix or an hour and he replied "I have no idea, maam". We ended up bagging the whole thing:(The woman at the store was also very unhelpful and was the one who sent us to these places. The service was very impolite to say the least and what a waste of a good morning. Maybe this place is better for other types of rentals? Not sure. The only positive thing I have to say was that one of the managers called me personally to file the refund, apologize and offer a gift certificate, which I did appreciate. Although, not sure we will use after this experience. THere are other easier places to rent bikes from--go with them!!!

We booked River and Trail Outfitters for a rafting trip as part of our Outdoor Program at Stevenson University. This was our first official trip as our program is brand new and starting from scratch. Their staff was extremely courteous as soon as we arrived until the time we left. Their boat guides were excellent about positive energy and had a lot of incredible information about the river/s and various locations we traveled through. The most important part was that the students had an absolute blast! For most of them, this was their very first time white water rafting. It was a great beginner to intermediate ride and Im hoping that their more challenging trips align with the school year so that we can utilize them again and increase the level of difficulty for the students. However, Im sure we will continue to book them even for the lower level rapids just to continue to encourage our students at all levels. But a big shout out to my boat guide Hunter and the group leader Jordan for making our trip awesome! Oh and it rained almost the entire time which didnt take away from the enjoyment of the trip at all!

Fun tour, Great scenery! I took a church group of eleven 16-year-old young women and 4 adults. We filled 3 rafts. Some of these young women had never been in any kind of boat before, so they were very excited for the rafting. We started up the Shenandoah and floated down to where the Potomac merged and a little beyond. The view of Harpers Ferry was beautiful! The river was at 3-feet, which was a good level for having fun! Our tour guide Hunter Stoner did a great job of steering us through some intricate spots. Making reservations was easy, thanks to Danielle, who is in charge of group reservations. Signing waivers online saved a lot of time the morning of the tour. My disposable water-proof camera failed, so the bus driver and the raft guide took pictures for us. The bus-driver emailed me the pics, but I havent seen the ones from the river guide yet. The girls had a great time and are asking if we can do it again next year.

Shenandoah is among the great American rivers. It was running fast the day we went, and the ride was pretty slow. I enjoyed best the swift current near the put-in. Consider the whitewater option offered on the nearby Potomac, which is closed when flow is fast. The current pins you near shore unless you paddle a bit. Worth the effort since the river is very wide and out in the middle its like being at sea, truly serene. Tip: when your feet drag in the water you largely remain oriented upstream. Lift your feet to vary the view. Some of the equipment was dubious; e.g. patched tubes, inflated headrests, even heard a customer complain his unit deflated. Worst problem was logistics. Directions to the site were ambiguous, and GPS link did not work on my phone. There are other services along that road with similar names -- make sure youre at the right place. I registered at another spot before I was directed to RTO.

We have tubed with River & Trail Outfitters several times and have had great experiences each time. They blend the perfect combination of professionalism with a laid-back river mentality to provide just what you need for a good time. A fun laid-back float. Great with family or friends. We have also done the whitewater trip and had a similar great time. They were a bit disorganized when we went so it took some patience while they split the group into rafts, but overall it was a great day. I was with my wife and kids (8 and 9 years old), none of whom had rafted before. The rapids were enough to keep me interested and not too much for the kids to handle. The guides had a great approach and demeanor, making sure everyone had fun while ensuring that everyone got safely down the river. The fried chicken lunch on the riverbank was a nice touch and was surprisingly delicious too.

I have to give a mixed review even though I loved it! The people working are great, the river is great. Lines on the weekend are long and the first time we went we only got to go down the river once due to a long wait for a second time. The following weekend we did the tubing early and then kyayked up the river for about two hours. That worked out much better. I would recommend a weekday trip if at all possible. Also, there are many drunk obnoxious people in the river on the weekend. They come in groups with many coolers filled with beer and forget that there are many families on the river. We saw spin the bottle games with foul language and several women who thought is was fine to bare there breasts many times. I am sure that during the week this behavior is not prevalent. But, River and Trail Outfitters contributed nothing to this behavior.

I got a Groupon to give these guys a try and let me tell you, SAVE YOUR MONEY. Their run is about half the length of the other Outfitters Ive been to in the area. The Groupon I got was for 2 runs for 2 people. It had an expiration date in mid Aug, but we redeemed our first run in June. We were told we could come in any time this summer because we had redeemed before the expiration but when we called to make a reservation, we were told that they would do absolutely nothing, not even a partial discount on another trip. We feel like we were lied to/got a bait and switch/just had horrible customer service. At the very least, they could have given us credit of half of our purchase price (since we only used half of the Groupon), but no, we basically got a screw you.
