Went to CarHop in Des Moines, Iowa on SE 14th today. Before going, I called and got Taylor. He was nice enough on the phone, told me that with their summer special, I would only have to pay $199 down. Mind you, that sounds just a little too good to be true, so I made sure to question him about this 5 times before hanging up and going out there. I get there, he was very nice, in the beginning. He has me fill out paperwork, then asks me about certain things as far as income goes. He asks me to sign into my SNAP online account, to which I explained that I dont know my user I.D. or password because I have all of that information saved in my browser of my laptop at home. He then chooses to argue with me, when I try to put in what I can remember, saying that I must not have an online account because if I did, I would know that it only allows 8 characters, one of which has to be a number. So, we get past all of that, and he continues to the credit check and tells me to go have a look around. Now, before all of that, the little questionnaire they have you fill out, asks what type of car you want, meaning do you want a 2 door, 4 door or whatever. I put I want a 4 door. I will not negotiate on that. I go out, looking at the cars in the lot, seeing numerous cars that I would like, waiting on him and my process of getting financed to be done. 20 mins goes by, and I go in because it is hotter than the Devils asscheeks outside, and when I enter, he comes out saying I was approved and he will be with me in a moment. He comes around in a 2 door car. I inform him that I need a 4 door because of my kids and my sickly mother. At this time, his attitude turns super nasty. I am informed for the amount of money I want to put down, the only choices I have are the 2, 2 door cars on the lot. When I ask if there are any 4 door cars available for what I have, he gets real snippy and tells me that for the $300 that I have to put down, this is all I can get. I then ask how much would I have to put down if I wanted a 4 door and he says he will be back, he was going to check. He comes back and says $1200 is needed as a down payment if I want a 4 door. Now, you remember in the beginning, I said that the ad was for $199 down, right? So, once I inform him that I cant do $1200, he then in a very snippy and snotty voice, says, "Well I guess you wont be getting a car today". If I did have $1200 to put down on a car and I was holding out, his attitude made damn sure that I would not even think about spending my money there. False advertisement, no real choice of cars, demanding/forcing a person to take a car, making them feel like they have no other choice and they have no options, whether their credit is good or not is bad business. My score is actually Fair(604). So, yea, I will not even think of them after this moment in time.

This place is completely rediculous!! I went here because I wanted to trade my car in for a van. The key word being WANTED, I did not need a new vehicle by any means just wanted something bigger for the kids. I went to carhop as I do have poor credit. I am absolutely disgusted with their sales tactics. Try to just push you into whatever junk vehicle they pull around, try to make you feel you dont have a choice. I was actually told their cars are by no means perfect (really?!) and that the point wasnt to get me in a perfect car but to rebuild my credit so I could in the future (really????). Now as for the trade in, they refused to tell me what they were going to give me for my car, what is up with that? We went around and around, I know what my car is worth and I was not going to take a dime less. They didnt want to tell me any of that until we started the paperwork. So I foolishly decided to actually test drive the van they limped around the building. The salesman said how it was so well taken care of and clean inside! WOW, he could not have been more wrong, rusty, scratched to hell, and clean inside? It was disgusting inside I didnt even want to touch the steering wheel. I told him I didnt like it at all and he went on again about how I cant expect a perfect vehicle, well the vehicle I drove there was a hell of a lot better than everything they sell and I sure wasnt about to downgrade from that. So after a little bickering he said he would go inside and see what he could do about possibly getting into a nicer vehicle, but it would take a lot more money down. I asked exactly how much and he said 1500..plus my car!! Now Im sorry but if i had 1500 cash and was trading in my car also, I could go to almost any lot and find something in much better shape than the crap on there lot. In fact Ive bought nicer cars from a salvage yard before. Anyway, he went to "see what he could do". I just got in my car and left, and after reading the reviews online I think that was the best decision!!! People if you are actually considering this place please look elsewhere, there are tons of bhph lots around that do much better business than these guys, they are setting you up to fail!

I was a single mother of two and needed a car. My sister in law/brother got a car from car hop so they refured me banking on the advertisment that they would get a bonus of their payments in which the NEVER got. I had $300 cash down. I got a 98 Chrysler Concord. It was fine for bout three days after i got it. On the fourth/fifth day i was driving on the bypass with my young kids in the car and the radiator went out. Car Hop sent me to a shop and had it fixed only cuz it was in hat first 30 days. my car was in the shop for about two weeks for this problem. Then bout a month after i get my car back it died on the onramp to the interstate. car hop again sent it to the shop unsure what was wrong. over a six mo period my car was in the shop for 4 of them off and on. So i told car hop that im not paying another dime until i get a diff car. after about two months of me complaining and then threatening to go to the media they gave in and had me come pick a diff car. They gave me a choice between two one of the was something i dont even remember the make/model but it had crank windows and tape on the window holding it in. And the other was a 98 dodge intrepid (i got the second one). this car has been all problems too. the c-v axle and ball joint broke while i was driving, a belt squeeks really bad. So i have advice for anyone planning on going to Car Hop or believeing what you see on tv . DONT TRUST THEM YOU WILL GET SCREWED!!! I am not happy with that place
