It still shocks me to walk into a what appears to be a small, local, independently owned store and be treated like both me, and the money Im about to spend, are not only unwelcome, but a completely annoying inconvenience. Id read bad reviews touching on the terrible, condescending attitude of the employees on Yelp and Google, and assumed it was just extremely difficult customers and or disgruntled ex-employees, so I went ahead and paid my visit to Wonder books. So, I have a day off, just got paid, and I just moved to DC. So obviously, I wanted to indulge myself when I found a used book store nearly 7 minutes from my current place of residence. I was ready to spend nearly 40 bucks on grabbing as many items I had found interesting. However, I was with my dog (sweet sweet sweet older female pitbull), and it was just too hot to leave her in the car even with all the windows completely down, and there wasnt anywhere I could tie her up in the shade. At this point, I saw two males exiting the store with their toy dog (no service vest), so I assumed that I could bring my dog in as well. The response? "Well, MAYBE if your dog is well behaved but shes pulling a lot". Ummmm, my dog was just smelling the doorway smelling the scent of the other dog that just walked out. At this point, my dog noticed I was going to put her outside, and then just started sitting flat on the floor (this is her form of protest). Poor doggie was sooo hot from being outside, all she wanted to do was sit on the cooooool tiles of the air conditioned book store. WHAT AN OUT OF CONTROL POORLY BEHAVED ANIMAL!!!!! So yes, I was told, in the most rudely sarcastic/disinterested tone, that, while my dog was just sitting on the floor in front of the door, she would have been allowed to browse the store with me if and only if she was "more well behaved". Also, did this lost-from-Brooklyn-fake-ass-DMV-hipster work at the Dog Behavioral Health Center thats next door? If so, I apologize for insulting her qualified observation that my dog is not well behaved enough to be in a book store, because she likes to smell the ground. However, even her appearance (demeanor goes without saying) is so grossly unprofessional (full sleeve uncreative tattoos, random facial piercings, ironic t-shirt) that I highly highly highly doubt this is the case. Unfortunately, Ive worked in customer service for too long, and I rarely am roused to either complain about someones conduct or write a bad review. However, Ive never been treated with more of what seemed like contempt mixed with indifference than when I was briefly dealt with my the cashier. I found this counter-girl to be so, so, so, so , rude that I walked out, immediately, and will never return. It doesnt sound significant in the long run of things, but I AM an AVID reader. I used to spend nearly 30 bucks a week at the used book store where I used to live. Doesnt sound like much, but, that adds up to 120 bucks a month, which is a decent amount for an industry (such as used books) where the profit margin is RARELY more than a couple of bucks. Essentially ,what she told me is, "In our business, we implement double standards", or "well, in our business, we have no standards and its all up to my opinion". I wouldnt be so pissed about this if my dog was actually not well behaved; Im not a delusional pet owner that thinks their pet is the best biggest angel that wont cant do no harm in the world. But it was 90* outside, and my dog just wanted to sit inside the store. I didnt think it would be an issue because I had JUST SEEN A SMALL DOG EXIT THE SAME STORE. But apparently, all customers ARE NOT treated THE SAME at this establishment, and according to the other reviews here and on yelp, you cant expect your needs to be even remotely met at Wonder Books. How does such a miserly person work in Customer Service? Piece of Advice to Counter Person: If youre of the "pocket-book" intellectual types that seems to think reading the synopsis of various works is enough to maintain a misinformed opi

I had a bunch of books I was looking to unload, and Wonder book came up as the closest place to me. After checking out the website I was excited to go there, I was planning to take store credit and do some shopping after selling my old books. My experience was not so good, the girl who helped me kind of made me feel like an idiot because I didnt know how their selling process worked. Apparently I was supposed to drive around back and unload the books there. I didnt get much for my books which was fine, that didnt bother me, what did bother me was being treated like I was the most annoying person to ever step foot into the shop. I just took the cash instead of the credit and left because I didnt want to be in that store a second longer. Which is unfortunate because it seemed like a really interesting place. Ive worked in customer service since I was 17 years old, and I dont expect to be treated like a queen or anything, but I do expect to be treated with some respect. It was embarrassing, I really felt stupid for not knowing how to sell my books there. I must have missed that part on the site, or I would have followed the instructions. Im really sorry that my experience was so bad because I wanted to love it there. I love books and music. I dont love being treated like human garbage. 2 stars because the actual store seems cool.

I purchased a book from them online and they sent me the wrong book. I called and spoke with Kelly who was very rude and told me not to call anymore. Later I was able to speak to Stacey who was polite and admitted that yes the wrong book had been shipped. However, she refused to issue a refund or accept the return. Pathetic that a business knows they made a mistake and STILL refuses to rectify it! DONT buy from their online store. Very unorganized--they dont know what they have and what theyre sending you and dont care if its wrong! Unbelievable! If you can go in person, fine, but dont order from their warehouse! Theyre listed on several sites so BUYER BEWARE! Stacy told me to give away or RECYCLE the book if I didnt want it! Real book lovers there! "Just throw it away". What would the owner Chuck Roberts or his brother Clark Kline say!?

The four dollar offer they made to me was highly insulting.I brought in 50 Cds and twenty vinyl records to sell. All are in excellent condition. All are desirable titles and artists. Here are a few examples Pink Floyd -wish you were here(CD),John Coltrane & Hank Mobley-Two Tennors(mint condition original vinyl),Wes Montgomery(California Dreaming original mint Verve vinyl). The teeny bopper girl told me that she could offer me 4 dollars cash or 6 in store credit. I declined this insulting offer ,then was told "theres no market for records or Cds ".I dont know what was more ridiculous, that statement or the pocket change offer.I will never step foot in this store again. One star is too much, more like zero for the uninformed, unqualified and flippantly rude staff.
