My center of attention here at Pet Pro in Bangor is freshwater aquariums for Better fish. They have ALL things needed for your bobby/interest- Tanks and filters, top brand names, even used aquarium necessities, ALL the water conditioners (Prime by Seachem is HIGHLY recommended) medicines if your fish get sick, etc., the list goes on. If you need something as far as freshwater aquariums go, I would recommend this store. Prices are rather on the expensive side but overall its not too bad. As far as customer service goes, they will help you if you have a question but you get the answer and they are gone in a flash, fast pace work environment. ***THINGS TO WATCH OUT FOR*** If you are buying live plants from this store, just be careful bc looks may be deceiving. I bought a couple freshwater plants from their own in-store aquarium, they looked beautiful but when I got home washed/rinsed them and planted them in the tank... The plant decided to bring home some parasites or some funky stuff with it and got my fish sick and totally ruined my tank = hospital tank for my fish and total tank tear down and start all over from scratch.... Ive heard this same exact thing through several other customers as well.

The customer service there is the worst. The fish selection is crap. They charge huge amounts for hormoned fish and offer no guarantee on the sex. Females could be males with that much juice in your blood. That is a $30 gamble. A majority of the fish here are also illegal. The general freshwater stuff looks pretty bad. The main guy (asian accent) is terribly unhelpful and goes out of his way to ignore or half answer every question you ask. He pushes the wrong medications for certain sicknesses. Got ich? Hell recommend prazi pro. Every time i have been in there he is tending to the salwater stuff and completely ignoring customers. I understand maintaining tanks, but you dont have to run around tank to tank with a pipette all day. Atleast add some variety to your "making myself look busy" tasks. Their prices are also sky high compared to local competitors (and even those guys are high). They dont know much about their equipment. The best thing about this place is their aquarium pricing. It is a little high, but better than most places in central maine. Only go there as a last resort for medications. Buying online is a much better option.

They have decent selection but their quality of fish is awful and I always have to hunt people down to get help. They also carry all kinds of crap that responsible retailers shouldnt sell like redtail catfish. There are so many fish with diseases that Ive only bought a fish there once and it was because they were the only place I could find it. Given the option, this is the last place in the area I would go for fish. Vances Tropical Fish in Bucksport has better quality and selection and even the local Petco has pretty good stock, much healthier fish and surprisingly helpful and knowledgable staff. They have a lot of equipment that I cant find elsewhere locally, but I can find it all online for better prices. I go to Pet Pro for striped kuhli loaches, sponge filters, and praziquantel. If youre looking for anything else, try Vances and Petco first.

We drove an hour to get here because we heard excellent things and wanted to support a local aquarium shop. We read negative reviews about bad experiences with a particular employee, but wanted to give the store a chance. We found out the hard way that the reviews were right: this woman was rude, tried to push cichlids on us after we told her we dont want them nor have the proper set-up to care for them, and discouraged us from buying the fish we wanted. We were prepared to spend a significant amount of money ($50-70) but left with just grass shrimp and betta flakes. However, their selection of fish is incredible. The fish were all healthy and active, with vibrant colors and bright eyes. Their marine fish in particular is massive, and they have fish we cant get at big pet chains. Unfortunately we wont be back after this experience.

I have been there twice. The girl that works there is very nice. But, she will tell you what not to buy if you ask her if it will be compatible. I call that being very helpful and knowledgeable. I would like to have a pictus catfish, but it would eat everything in my tank. She said it would not be a good mix. I read and she was right. Ive met the owner, too. He tells it like it is. I would rather have honest answers than selling me something that will devastate my 125 gallon tank. They are an honest family owned store with a nice assortment of fish. And new arrivals every week. Going back this week. Highly recommend!

My husband and I Love this pet store. My husband gets most of his saltwater fish & coral there, and has spent hundreds of dollars there and he has always had good luck with all of them. Alex the owner is very knowledgeable when it comes to all the fish, coral & animals. And his employee is the BEST in my opinion, I wish I could remember his name. He sold me my cockatiel bird that was brought in by someone who could not care for him anymore. He always asks me how my bird Salem is doing when I go in the store with my husband. store at all i bought 3 fish there for 10 dollars and i had my tank set up with all the stuff and the ph level in the water was fine when i got home i let the fish sit in the bag in the tank for 20 minutes like they said and that night ALL 3 fish DIED!! and i had the temperature where they told me to have it. that is the first time i got fish from there i usually get them from pet co trust me even thought the fish are a little more in price they are better i have bought over 20 dollars worth of fish over time and they last a LONG time pet co is way better!

The owner is absolutely amazing at what he does, he has a true calling for this business! I have been going in over a year and also have traveled the state checking out other stores looking for saltwater fish and coral, I have seen bigger and better displays a cpl times bit seen worse dozens of times and all and all I go back for his knowledge and friendly service, when I ask him anything you see the pride he gets from what he does , its not a job to him its a passion that pays the bills, thank you for everything

This is one of the worst place I have been too for animals. When I bought fish asked if I need to put stuff in the water bc I have never had glow fish be for the lady said no and then my fished died and cant right back in an she said I never asked her but there was three other people there an wouldnt give cash back for what I paid and said that it stated no cash back on the recipe but it doesnt they died two days after I got them. I do t want to give them a star but cant post unless I do
