4 months ago I special ordered a fish and was not given what I ordered. I kept the fish despite being offered to return them after writing a review and later learned that they are same family. I ordered Banded Barbs. I was given Exclamation Barbs. I havent gone back until today (to get filter replacements) and saw they were advertising Banded Barbs but with no pic. I asked "Dan" where they were and he pointed to the Exclamation Barbs. I showed him pics of the Banded and he told me that "well we cant pic the colors and they come in many varieties. These are what we get." I didnt tell him I knew what they were (wrong of me, maybe..), but I expressed that he didnt seem right. He seemed agitated when responding "Well we order Banded Barbs and this is what they send us". I dont expect everyone to know every fish.. I dont.. but I admit that.. as should have he instead of trying to feed me a line and try to make me look like I am wrong. Bottom line: I give 5 stars for their great selection of things I know I need and want. -3 stars for service and trying to cover up a clear lack of knowledge not once, but twice by at least 3 associates. Attached are the 2 fish that he tried to tell me are the same.

I have shopping at the Petco in South Portland for more than a year. The staff there has been very helpful answering my questions such as the best dog toys for my pet and various other questions on harnesses, leashes, and food for both my cat and dog. In addition, I appreciciate the policy of allowing customers to return items up to 90 days after purchasing. In their clearance section, I have picked up some great deals and also bought extra items using Petco reward dollars. My dog and I have participated in both puppy and adult dog classes at the South Portland store. The dog trainers have been very helpful and friendly and the classes are small enough to get some individual attention as well as the group training. They even have a free puppy play time that allowed my pup to learn to get along with other dogs.The staff has even held a particular cat food for me when it was shipped to the store so I would not make a wasted trip by driving over and finding it already sold out.

I went to Petco today with my wife to get a muzzle for my dog. My dog has a bad habit of chewing on things she shouldnt chew on when left unattended. I was unaware that muzzles are typically used for aggression. The muzzle itself marketed differently. I brought my dog in and sized her for the muzzle. We found one that fit. The dog seemed unhappy and even though we felt bad we hoped she would get use to it. Upon cashing out the trainer Jessica mentioned something about not using the muzzle. She made it feel like I am not fit for caring for my dog and that I neglect it. She said the answer is chew toys and more excersise. Thank you Jessica for the advice. I do play with my dog and take her for walks and she does have plenty of chew toys. Next time do you mind not calling us out in front of two lines of people.I care about my dog. I didnt rescue my deaf dog from an animal shelter to abuse it.

Absolutely TERRIBLE Customer Service by a supposed manager???? Debbie. Debbie is an embarrasment for petco to say the least; she is extremely rude and lacks any management or people skills. Because of her, you lost a possible $500 plus sale that day. I am a proffessional and a business owner. If any of my managers treated one of my potential customerss the way Debbie treated me they would be fired or demoted instantly. Please send her to management training classes immedietly you are loosing business because of her and will continue too! I dont know how this individual is a manger.Truly, truly a poor representation for Petco. She is fit for Dunkin Donuts or Mcdonalds with her attitude and lack of knowledge

Sure Ive had the occasional employee at this store that gave less than excellent customer service but this isnt the only one and it isnt so uncommon in any establishment nowadays. Nobody is perfect and its not always so easy to not show a difficult day to customers when youre on the register side and yet its so easy to pick those apart that do when youre the customer and Ive been on both sides of that argument. Were all human. The products that Ive purchased here have thus far been excellent or have been returned hassle-free. I love their coupon program for customers who adopt shelter pets.

Yeah not impressed with Debbie either... Poor customer service skills is correct and wasnt even wearing a company shirt, badge, apron or what ever. Went in with a water sample to be tested and possibly buy fish. She told me my sample was too cold. Told her I had a 20 minute ride with the AC cranked. Still said it shouldnt be cold... I decided to get a couple of fish and wasnt allowed to pick healthier fish. She also gave me a fish that looked similar but was an extra $1 something, that is why I gave a 2nd star.

I love Pet Co! The rewards Pals program is great, the customer service is always fantastic and the sales are great. I use the refillable cat litter and its a really great deal for the quality of litter. Tons of options for food, toys and seeing the animals there is always fun. There has never been an instance where I dont think the animals are being taken care of. The staff are great and I highly recommend the South Portland store. Thanks, guys!!!

I returned a product called Stink Free that was GUARANTEED to remove cat urine odors. I returned one-half of an expensive $30+ dollar bottle to Petco. They gave me a 50% refund because I used one-half of the bottle. I emailed customer service at Stink Free because they said the product was guaranteed but I have not heard from them. So, it is not guaranteed by Stink Free or Petco. Do not purchase this product!

I wanted to get a pet rat because Ive had them before and they make great pets. Petco didnt have any. The woman at the counter (Debbie) was so rude to me when I asked if they were going to get rats back in. When I asked why she said, "because they are evil." An inappropriate response from a very rude salesperson.

I love buying supplies here for my crazy dog! They are conveniently located, have decent prices, and are very knowledgeable. Their grooming services are great as well, just make sure you call ahead for an appointment because they are always busy!

Very clean and organized store with a wide selection. I was impressed with the fish tanks here in comparison to other Petco stores and PetSmarts and the dog section was neat and extensive. The staff was very helpful and friendly as well!

They can have good sales which is when I only buy items here. If you come and pay full price youre probably paying way more than somewhere else or getting it online.

They had what we needed, and we got flea and tick topical application for our dog at about 1/3 the price our vet charges. "Pet Lock Max: for dogs."
