This is my favorite market for asian cooking ingredients! The first thing you notice are the friendly employees. As soon as I drove up to the grocery store there were workers in front loading up a van. I was immediately waved and smiled at. The workers greeted me with kindness, which is a refreshing contrast to the local Valu Market across the street (Whose inventory variety has been slowly dwindling for the past 10 years). The second thing you notice about this market is the smell. As soon as you walk in you get the fresh sensation of being in an open air market. (Which I absolutely LOVE!) If you look on the ground you will see them showing off their freshest ingredient of the day. In my case on Thursday, it was crawfish in a crate, still wriggling around. (In the past I have seen crab) I love it! The third thing you notice is the wide, and I mean WIDE variety of ingredients which range from fresh and frozen fish and eel, oils vinegars and the pans you cook them in, to canned mock duck and chicken. (Which is absolutely a riot, you HAVE to try it. Very VERY different.) And after making your selection, you get to experience my FAVORITE part of the market. Affordability! You try going anywhere else for nori and they either dont have it, or try to sell it to you for twice or three times its worth! Here is a breakdown of my grocery purchase: I bought a 300ml bottle of sesame oil, a 6.2oz cannister of dried thai hot chili flakes (to infuse the oil with) and 2 packages of nori, (Which each contained 10 large sheets, which combined was enough to make 40 sushi rolls) all for only $7.50! You really cant beat their prices.
