So glad to have this sort of economical department store on the North side of Ames, and the new facility is very nice. However, I have a concern that is universal to every retail store and I wish at least ONE of them would listen! I understand the importance of getting the "seasonal" clothing items out early, but please, please, PLEASE understand that this is IOWA and weather is extremely variable even late into the spring! I went to this store looking for "running pants" for my teenage son - the full-length, nylon style that help with windbreak in cold/windy/wet weather as the track season is starting and he just decided to go out on a whim. I realize that I ought to have bought these items before, but I didnt. When I went looking yesterday at this Walmart, I could not find ONE SINGLE long-sleeved or long-legged track-type item. Not a running/track suit, no jackets, not even ordinary sweat pants in the size for teenaged boys. Its MARCH in IOWA for Petes sake! I hope this is merely an oversight due to the fact the store has only been open for 2 weeks, but it is a chronic problem. You cant find heavy-duty gloves or mittens in January, for example, when everyone knows that someone in the family is going to lose a pair right when winter gets most brutal. Its very frustrating.

This newly opened store next to the previous one is a Walmart supercenter with full service. I love the new interiors with new age signage. Especially the signs have images associated with the text which makes it easier to see from far off. Also the black backdrop makes it easier. The font size also is bigger. This Walmart store feels a little upscale. Though the parking outside needs to be sorted out as it is really confusing because it is still aligned to previous store front which faced east and the current store front faces south.

I go here a lot because its close to home. At least three times a certain employee (I cant remember her name. Curly brown hair. Emily?) Has been so patient with my scattered brain. The first time I forgot bread, and another time I forgot my ID for alcohol in the car. She bagged and checked out my groceries while I went and grabbed those things. Always pleasant and always eager to make things easier for me! Great customer service!

Hey Walmart if you dont trust people then dont even bother to set up these "self-check-out" machines. It disgusts me the way when some of your employees looking at me when I checking out. NOT EVERYONE IS A THEFT! I totally understand that they got a job to do, but PLEASE, do not make it too obviously, this is not about security management, its about RESPECT!

The WORST CUSTOMER service EVER!!!!!!!! In the vision center-The blond woman sat in her chair, asked what I wanted, then said the frames are over there and pointed toward the other side of the area. She never got out of the chair once and could have cared less. Never even smiled. I was the only customer. Too busy? Then lose your job. the area.

A few terrible old employees. A few friends and I went to there store like we do when we get bored. So we go to the sports isle and find a football, no more then 7 ft away I softly pass him he ball, no warning. He softly passes it back and we get kicked out. No warning or anything he just came to us and kicked us out truly a terrible experience.

I really enjoy this Wal-Mart. While its got an older style, I dig it. The staff is much nicer and friendlier and willing to help unlike the Duff location. I go out of my way to get to this Wal-Mart just because of the service I receive here. I would highly recommend this Wal-Mart to anyone.

Horrible experience. After looking for an employee for 10 min to let my daughter in the dressing room an employee walked by totally ignoring us. I had to ask him for help and he kept walking by and told me the dressing room closed at 10! It was 10:03!! Will never go to this Walmart again!!!

The smaller of the two Ames Walmarts. Their pharmacy is particularly good, and their craft section is larger than their sister store. Has a small grocery area, but its not very well maintained, theyve sold us curdled milk a few times.

Walmart should make it so pets are allowed inside and dont have to be a therapy dog! Then people wouldnt have to worry about stupid people reporting them for there dog being in a car for a couple minutes!

There are two Walmarts in Ames and this is the older one. It often is more cluttered and the employees are not as helpful. If you are looking for a Walmart in Ames, go to the one on Duff avenue.

The older Walmart doesnt have a restaurant, but it also has two family restrooms just like the Walmart in Waldorf. The older Walmart has been relocated to a Supercenter location.

I only go in the other walmart when I absolutely have to. As far as Im concerned, there is only one wall. Mart in town. Dont waste a time going to the other store

Much better than the Duff Avenue store. Nicer employees, employees seem happier here. They are a little older, more mature than the south store.

Definitely cleaner than other Walmarts Ive been to. Mainly use this store as a grocery back-up for anything Aldis across the street doesnt have.

I got aids here. Would not recommend. The aids didnt even come with a case even though the box showed a picture oof one in the background.

The person that checks out at the pharmacy at the North Grand store is rude and has no personality. Always seems put out by working.
