I usually love Hobby Lobby, besides the damage it does to my bank account, of course. I did not think it possible for this store to ever make me angry...but alas. This was my experience: yesterday, I had bought 3 things. One of the things got charged twice, but I only bought one of this particular item. I thought, "No big deal, it was a mistake, Ill just run back tonight with my receipt and get that other thing I want". So, I set off to get it taken care of. Once I got to the checkout counter, I explained the situation and gave the checker my receipt. Her reply (in a NOT very polite tone) was this: "I cant actually do this if you dont even have the stuff here. I cant just go by your receipt. How do we know that people arent just going to say they didnt buy something and ask for their money back? You need to have the items with you". First of all, thanks for assuming that I, a paying customer, would try to steal money from your store. Second, that is a really stupid policy. What does bringing the stuff in prove at all? Not that I would do this, but I could still just bring in everything BUT the item I was trying to get the money back on, if I really wanted to steal from you. I reluctantly said, "Fine, Ill come back with it another time", and still made my purchase, because I needed it and had a coupon. Now I have to make another useless trip there, for no valid reason, IMO.

I love Hobby Lobby. Most of the prices are on par with the other fabric and art supply places in town. The building is always clean and the displays are logically arranged. I have always gotten great service. The staff has bent over backward to help me find what I need, and Ive never had a single issue with a return - even when I had washed some fabric and returned it because it frayed more than I expected.

The employees are NOT helpful, prices are a bit high, checkout lines are LONG, but selection is good. No one ever offers help or even asks you if you need help, you have to go search someone out when you need help. Checkers cant "multi-task" (e.g., wrap glass purchase as customer is digging in purse for money, credit card, coupon, etc.) and pretty much a "non-friendly" environment.

The store advertises that it has discounts, but the prices never change. Im not a big crafter, my wife is usually the one doing the shopping, but even I can find a couple of things that catch my eye.

The wait time at checkout is always ridiculous because they manually key in each item to the register. The 1970s is calling and it wants its technology back.

Employees are almost always oblivious to where/what most of their products are. Be prepared to hunt for supplies on your own.
