We had a great experience with our sales person Gerry D. He is a friendly and experienced salesperson who put our needs first! However our experience with the service end of the business was and continues to be, terrible. I was asking about a set of front tires that looked and handled poorly on a car we bought. I was given an explanation about standards that the company has in place. My objection is that John the service manager there told me his wife would "not be driving on the tires" in there current condition if it was his car. Basically I was told that my girlfriends safety is not as important as John the service managers wife. If you go to a doctor and he tells you that your insurance company wont cover a procedure and he suggests it, you find a way to make it happen....same goes for safety regarding a "certified" car. If CarMax wants to continue recording record profits and earnings after each quarter, maybe they should focus on a repeat customer instead of a few hundred dollars worth of savings on questionable tires. I have already had the car at a dealer who told me they wouldnt certify the car with the tires that are on it currently. I will be calling the home office so that I can give them a first hand experience on how to lose a repeat(7 cars!) customer. Update: 2/24/16- CarMax Home Office decided that they would not be doing anything about the tires. We now have to purchase tires in order the for the car to be driven safely to work. So after buying a "certified" car we are expected to spend hundreds of dollars more on tires less than a month after a purchase. This is exactly how CarMax loses customers. We have no other choice but to tell each and every person how our safety is not a priority for a big and greedy company like CarMax. Not once did they offer to drive the car with us they simply looked at a corporate policy and adhered to it. BIG MISTAKE purchasing from this place!!!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!! STAY AWAY!!!!!!

This is our third purchase from CarMax in Schaumburg. Each purchase experience has been great!! This last one was by far the best!!! Bravo! I want to thank Todd Levine for taking such great care of us. He had to deal a consumer that takes a long time to decide on a vehicle purchase. Im the type that needs to drive all the vehicle(s) Im interested in reviewing and then think about each one for some time. I also tend to look at vehicles in different classes before landing on the one that feels right. Todd always accommodated my requests cheerfully and professionally. He would hold the latest choice without hesitation, even transfer vehicles in record time, and when I ask to see another he would have it ready for my next trip in. He was always prepared when I arrived. He had options printed out and ready for my review based on my budget and class of car. Needless to say, Im pretty sure I burned through any commission he made on this vehicle. I also want to recognize other team members for their great service! Mary Ann in the Service Department, and Steve and Maria in the business office. Through my crazy process consisting of the several trips for selection; purchase of the first car, trip for service adjustments and the ultimate return of the first vehicle to purchase a different vehicles, Todd and these other team members are true professionals!! Needless to say, I am a CarMax fan and recommend the brand to anyone that asks about my car buying experiences. I am a business owner and know the value of repeat customers. I intend to purchase future vehicles through Todd and from CarMax in Schaumburg! Matt Klemp Massage Envy Hoffman Estates

I would give zero stars if it were possible. I bought my first car from here and everything went wrong in every single way possible. First I bought a car with 25,000 miles on it. At 35,000 miles the cars engine exploded. Carmax did nothing but laugh. They would not help. They did not care. They made their sale, got the financing and now I am paying 250 a month for a car that is not fixable. I will be paying them for years for a car I only drove for a year. On top of that they got my licence plate number wrong. So when I was pulled over the cop had to give me a court date. This was a mere week before my car broke down. They made getting the new plate a hassle fought me every step of the way and when they did acknowledge it was their fault made me come in TWICE just to get all the paper work done. Now I have to go to court, To show that I fixed the licence plate on a car that no longer works. All Because Carmax is uncaring, unhelpful, and incompetent. I will be never buy from them again, nor will anyone from my family. They should be ashamed to use words like "integrity" and "professionalism" they are neither. Carmax is now synonymous in my mind with Comcast and Nazi Germany. Edit: Oh. It gets even better folks. I finally came to an Agreement with Carmax to lower my payments every month so I could actually afford to get to work. But, Carmax LIED to me. Im still paying the same monthly amount and Carmax people are avoiding me like the plague. They wont return my calls, They pretend I dont exist Carmax has made me an indentured servent for the next 3 years. DO NOT BUY FROM THESE LYING CHEATS!

Hi, I purchased a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta car July 15th of this year and tomorrow will mark the third time Ive had to take this car back to the service department for repair. The first time it was the brakes, the second time the car was cutting off while driving and the car was idling rough. After the second repair the car is still cutting off while Im driving. I honestly expected more from a carmax car. The company states that you pick the best of the best used cars. There is even a quality sticker on the car. I have approximately one week left before my first 30 days are up. I honestly feel I should get an extension on the first 30 day guarantee. Ive had to bring the car in for service 3 times within the first 3 weeks of driving the car off lot. This my second purchase from carmax and really had high expectations from this car. If Ive had to have the car serviced 3 times within the first 30 days I can only imagine what surprises are in store for the first 3 months. I think that I should get an extension on the 30 day gaurantee, be able to choose another car, or get my down payment back and you all take this car back. Also the first time I had to drop my car off to carmax for service I was shuttled to work; I arrived almost an hour late to work because of how long it took for the shuttle to pick us up. Needless to say I will not be using the shuttle service anymore. I feel like Ive just signed a contract for a five year nightmare.

Was quick and easy!! I am now on my third vehicle from carmax in Schaumburg, so i can really only speak for this store. As another post had mentioned the service department can be hit or miss, but for me just based off the hours. As far as the sales consultants, from my experiences i have always had a friendly, knowledgeable consultant throughout the process of buying a car. i am sure there are other consultants who may have less experience or may not be as friendly, but in all fairness we probably all know at least one person at work who is not as good as what they do as others. Three good experiences in a row were enough for me to write a recommendation for this store. I do know that these guys and gals are on commission only, but not like traditional dealerships, my first sales consultant there told me that they make a flat rate for a sale or for doing an appraisal that the person sells. One last thing, Tlynn commented on her negative experience with the warranty, I had the exact opposite experience. Two years after i bought my first Infiniti there i was having issues with my power seats in the front, when i brought it in the service person told me that the mechanic also discovered that i needed work to a component in my engine, i paid 50 bucks for what would have been a 1200 dollar repair!
