As I am reading some negative reviews for this store, I am shocked. I have been a customer of Rons for about 10 years now. I bought my very first tanks from him when I did not know anything about fish. I have found the only time I have had anything die, is when I did not listen to his advice. I will be honest to say, sometimes I think the things he says seem wrong but I can say with assurance.....I have never had him be wrong and off base. As with anything there are differing opinions for these hobbies but never has Ron or Amanda been so glaringly wrong that it made me ever question his knowledge. In fact, their knowledge appears to surpass anyone elses I can find. I have never seen any animals abused or neglected like some people are saying. This store/building is OLD and its not Petsmart with a bazillion dallars to waste on upgrades. I have seen this store improve over the last year and I have seen a dramatic improvement in the employees knowledge. I test Petsmart and Best pets all the time because they are much closer and on my way home. But, their knowledge is not even half what Something Fishy has to offer and all they care about is sales. I had one of those stores try to sell me a FRESH water fish for my SALTWATER tank! This coming from someone that has a family memeber that works for Petsmart!!! I came in to Petsmart to compare prices on BIRD toys from them to Something fishy and they tried to sell me a dog?! REALLY? (And something fishy was $2 cheaper!!) Something fishy is a great place to shop for my zoo. I am a dedicated customer and have been for many years and it sickens me to see ignorant people slandering people trying to run a business. If you dont like their business model ok, move on but to slander, and outright insult people is immature. When my animals get sick, Ron guides me. When I have questions, Ron and Amanda are always willing to answer them or guide me TO the answer. Their prices are MORE than competative. I will continue to be a customer because this is a good place.

Honestly one of the best Fish places in the upper part of the state, if not the best. The employees are always more then happy to help you out. The owner has been extremely helpful, we came in interested in a Saltwater tank and he took about 45 minutes of his time to help us and explain everything that we would need; needless to say I started up my first saltwater tank because of him and it is running absolutely wonderfully. He has most all types of fish you could want and if he does not have them he will get them for you. Also the live rock and coral he has are some of the prettiest I have ever seen. I got all of my live rock from there and the colors off of it are beautiful. His dogs always look super healthy as well as his cats and other animals he has there. You can tell he really takes pride in all of his animals. His large cockatoo "Fritz" I believe even has a crush on my wife considering everytime we come in he has to dance for her and throw around his Kung Fu Panda for her. But fish aside Ron truly is a plethora of information and can more often then not help with literally any question that you have. I would recommend anyone that I knew to come here if they want the best advice and customer service around.

I spend alot of time at Something Fishy Pets. I have purchased a puppy, fish tank and many fish at the store. It is always fun to be in there as the staff is , courteous, knowledgable, and extremely helpful. I have asked lots of questions dealing with cichlids and their compatability and care. If it were not for the expertise and willingness to help I would have a very large glass paperweight. I sometimes wonder why a person would make comments such as this poster (avoid this shop) did. He or she obviously made some mistakes and is trying to blame it on the shop. Another person not wanting to take responsibility for what they do. I have never been lied to and have found nothing but helpful info coming from the employees. sounds like infamous is trying to push off bad fishkeeping on the stores professionals. Dont avoid the shop, avoid comments made by ignorant comsumers.

Something fishy pets in Fox lake is an amazing place. Ive been shopping for all my pet store needs here since they opened up. Ron and his staff are very knowledgable and helpful. This was the first place that actually took the time to listen to me when I was setting up my salt water tank and took the time to explain to me how to get started. The salt water selection he has is amazing and the prices are very reasonable. Ive purchased a dog from here and some geckos. Ive owned dogs before but never geckos and once again Ron and staff were more than happy to help me set up a happy home for my new pets. If youre looking for a pet shop that can handle your particular pet needs, this is the place to go. Thank you Something Fishy Pets for all your advice and help with my pets needs, Id be lost without you guys!!!!

Im very surprised at the positive reviews here. The owners may be friendly, but the conditions in which these animals are kept are terrible to say the least. Even just by glancing at the cages in the store you can tell theyre not properly or regularly cleaned. The animals are aggressive when you attempt to touch them, most likely from not being handled on a regular basis. What appalled me the most was one of the fish tanks in the back. They kept 3 foot long fish in a 25 gallon tank, the bacteria one of those fish alone produces is too much for a tank that small, let alone 3 with absolutely no room to swim around. It is no way for any creature to live. I would not recommend this business to anyone. I actually suggest for no one to continue to put money in their pockets to keep this inhumane place running.

Cons: -Not a lot of fish gear. if you need something gear wise, not the place for it. -Prices are kind of high -A lot of items are not tag which is a pain. It has stopped me from buying things because i dont want to get to the counter and realize its more than i was willing to spend. PROS: -For sure the place to get fish! they have a lot of fish at average prices. If they dont have it ron can order it -Staff. They are super nice and always willing to help out! The staff is what makes me go there! -Decent size of coral frags for sale. Could see a bit of improvement in the tank though. Some frags have fallen out of the tray and have been there out for a while. Overall, it for sure a place to stop by and see what new fish you want.

Bought my hamster Jimbu here a few months back (around July) and hes perfect! Naturally, at first he was a little nervous but he got accustomed to us and now hes social, doesnt bite at all (most Ive had was a little nibble, never enough to pierce through the skin) and won 1st place at the hamster races. You are allowed to interact with most of the pets they have there, as long as youre careful. They are all healthy and are definitely guaranteed to have a long and healthy life if you take care of them properly. Ive never ran into any breeding issues, and I believe they rescue their puppies and kittens. Owners and staff are friendly, as I come in on a regular bases. Five stars, definitely recommended! Hope to return this weekend. :)
