I love seeing puppies and theres a Petland close to my home, so I had been going there for a while to see puppies. One day, there was a little scruffy Labradoodle that I fell in love with, and so I asked to play with her and she felt just right for me. I went in the store for seven days in a row because I was establishing a bond with this dog and asking about her background, policies and warranties and trying to accommodate for her. My husband had been doing research on Petland and was trying to make me see why we shouldnt give them our custom and support their business policies, but I was truly fond of this doggie and I wouldnt have cared if she came from heaven or hell. So on Friday Sept 8th I went in to make my purchase with a friend; the lady who had been helping me all week saw me but it was a busy moment so she didnt say anything, which is ok (I think to their eyes I was starting to become a pain, which I understand too), so I went to look at the cutie one more time through the glass. As I was looking, I heard a lady approaching behind me and saying "Ill take that one" as she pointed at the doggie. I thought it was a joke. The lady on duty said, "Sure, Ill go and grab her papers and her for you". I really thought it was a joke. If that shop assistant had had some humanity within her, she could have said to the customer "hang on, I need to double check something", and have pulled me to the side and asked me if I had made up my mind. The doggie and I had bonded, even my husband who had only seen and played with her twice had started to care for her. I understand it is a business, but the lack of humanity with a person who shows caring towards a potential future pet is so disappointing. I was so sad to see her go in front of my eyes to an owner that hadnt even asked to play with her first. This shop assistant proved to me that as a business they dont care who their pets new owners will be (they actually sell their puppies to anyone who is willing to pay) and also as individuals. And I do understand that when it comes to a purchase it is kind of a "first come, first serve" deal, but I was standing there, ready to buy that same dog I had been enquiring about all week, playing with her, calling different vets and getting my family ready for her, and she didnt even care to pull me to the side to ask if I was there to buy it before letting the other customer take her, or just to say to me personally "sorry, shes been purchased. Im so sorry, but it is store policy". I will never forget this sad and disappointing experience. I hope that puppys new mom is deserving of her love and friendliness.

I never dreamed I would buy a puppy from a pet store, (I am an "adopt not shop" person) but we had been looking for a doodle for some time and fell in love with a chocolate labradoodle here. She was perfect, so we decided to pay up to get the right dog for our family. And Petland has really impressed me. The staff has been amazing and very caring. She had a cold (kennel cough is very common, not just in pet stores, people) so they asked to keep her until the vet could see her again-putting her health first. We have come to visit her every day, and they have been so nice and supportive. They answer all questions and make sure you have everything you need. I cant believe some of the bad reviews Ive seen about people taking a puppy home to a child who is allergic, and being mad when the store wont take the puppy back. Are you kidding? How about dont get a puppy in a spur of the moment decision without your child meeting the dog and without knowing if your family has allergies?? The reviews saying the puppies have bad behavior and are biting... IT IS A PUPPY and puppy biting is very common. I cant believe these people who are blaming the store for something that ALL PUPPIES do. Training a pup out of biting takes weeks to months. I also think their vet policy is very reasonable, if the dog has any problems initially they will pay for it. The staff truly loves and cares for these dogs, and our pup absolutely adores everyone who works here. Thank you Petland for taking care of our new baby until we can welcome her into our home. <3

DO NOT BUY A PETLAND PUPPY. Our puppy only lived to be a year old. He died two weeks after his first birthday. He was running in the yard when his heart gave out! We bought our dog from Petland in Crystal Lake, IL and fell in love with him right away. On the first vet visit he had Giardia and Coccidia in his bowel movements and we went back to the vet three times before we got it out of his system. Just in the eleven months of having him we spent thousands of dollars on him because he needed a CT scan and intestinal biopsies. Just after three months of having our puppy, he was diagnosed with Discospondylitis with a vertebral infection which ate away some of his bones in his neck. Nine months after we bought him, he was diagnosed with Histiocytic Ulcerative Colitis. This made him poop blood all the time and he had to be on a lot of medication and a special diet. We spent thousands of dollars trying to save our dog. We would not put him down as long as he was happy and not in pain. PLEASE THINK TWICE BEFORE YOU GO INTO PETLAND TO BUY A DOG!! DO YOUR RESEARCH, ASK ALOT OF QUESTIONS, TALK TO THE "BREEDERS"!!

BEWARE!!! As most know, most dogs from puppy stores come from puppy mills and these poor puppies are no exception! The owner is VERY rude (middle age man) who was suspicious of me and seemed very sketchy when I asked him questions regarding where the dogs are from. I was told by a female manager in her early 20s that she knows that some Petlands euthanize the puppies when they get too large for the kennels. When I was in the store a few years ago they had a puppy for FREE when you purchased the kennel!!! This is disturbing and something needs to be done to get this store out of my city. The puppies are adorable and yes I feel sad for them, but purchasing anything at Petland keeps this man in business. I have also seen a semi-truck unloading kennels in the back of the building late one Sunday evening. The life of these animals is horrible and I wish people would research and investigate Petland. There are many shelters in the area that have hundreds of puppies/dogs for adoption. RESCUE......Petland could not even tell me what suppossed breeder (puppy mill) these puppies are from! DO NOT SHOP THERE!

DOG HAS SEIZURES!!!! WONT DO WHAT THE CONTRACT SAYS!!!! LONG STORY SHORT... Bought a dog for over $1000, dog started getting seizures [very scary and sad, cant walk, drink, eat for hours, pees himself, heartbreaking :( ] Took him to over 3 vets to get him on right medicine that he has to be on TWICE A DAY FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE, very expensive. went in there telling them and the worker assured me i can get my money back get a note that says whats going on. Brought ALL of his paper work with blood work that showed that its seizures, the medicine that makes his blood work go back to normal, everything you could possibly need to know, I take it in and they say its not enough..They want a "HAND WRITTEN NOTE " saying he has seizures...WHAT?! Thats better then his blood work before and after medicine + more???(including handwritten signature) So my vet made a hand written note (embarrassing to ask for because hes very confused how the other paper work wasnt enough),bring it in and its not good enough. Long story short, dont go here. My poor dog suffers daily and the medicine is expensive.
