When I first moved to Darien this was the closest grocery to my house that I knew of. So in spite of the exorbitant prices and terribly rude employees, I shopped here twice a week. I assumed the high price tags meant that extra care was taken to ensure the cleanliness of their store and products. I was gravely wrong. On my third visit to this store, I picked up a tomato, and was shocked to find two relatively large cockroaches scuttering away. I gave this store the benefit of the doubt and brushed it off as an isolated incident. A week later I was back in the produce section picking up a few things, and noticed a very large RAT under one of the lettuce crates. I thought I may be seeing things, but as I moved closer to the rodent it climbed over the crate and buried itself under some bunches of lettuce. I had seen enough. I quietly replaced the few items I had picked out earlier, and after depositing my basket, made my way towards the exit. To add insult to injury, on my way out I was stopped by one of the cashiers on my who demanded I empty my pockets and backpack. Once convinced I hadnt stolen anything he simply walked away without an apology. All in all, I will NEVER shop here again. I may have been able to deal with the high prices and pathetic attitude of the people who work at this store, but I refuse to put the health of my family at risk.

Staying in town and wanted to find a quality local store to get fresh food for our stay. Initially was pretty impressed with what LOOKED like fresh food....IT WASNT! We bought a number of desserts from the pastry case. It looked like it was going to be awesome. Got back to our hotel and found the cream puffs COMPLETELY stale. You could barely even push your finger thru the cream. I broke it in half to find the center literally decomposing. They were rotten inside and hard on the outside. Also got cannolis which were "softer" but still tasted spoiled. We also got chicken salad that was watery and separating once we opened the container. Other crappy food too. Spent $98 for literally what was supposed to be a snack and EVERY product was nasty. We do not recommend at all! Very pricey and way below standard. Threw it all away...along with my $98!

I have shopped at Brookhaven for the last 8 years. Its great for ethnic food and fresh produce at very competitive prices. I have a friend who works at the produce market downtown and he told me this was the place to go. I have never been disappointed. I have never seen anything the negative reviews talk about. The only thing I will say is that their deli line gets very long during peak hours, but only because their prices are so much better than other places that are around.

AMAZING selection of Macedonian products here!!! They have Skopsko Beer from Skopje, Grozd Mastika alcohol from Strumica, 2 types of Tikves Rakija, Stobi Flips, Strumka Gazoza, Prilepska Gazoza, Stobi Flips, Viva Juice, and so many different types of Ajvar, Lutenica, Pindzur, its amazing! Its a balkan persons heaven!! Most amazing store! They have Skopsko beer!!!!!!

Great neighborhood store with quite a few Eastern European items. Limited organics, but they have occasional great sales on them. If youre into conventional produce, this place has a great selection at unbeatable prices. Its usually quite clean and has unadvertised "manager specials" all the time.

They have lost their focus, they were a great store but they tried to shift more upscale to please the millennials, but they already have Marianos and Petes fresh market is coming. Steal from the sleeping giant Jewel and get back to a good product at a fair price.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This store has greatly improved since my last visit 3 years ago....I will definitely go back. Clean, helpful and friendly employees and an excellent selection of fresh produce and many prepared salads and such for vegetarians and vegans......
