I bought a new, sealed third party N64 controller here, paid the owner cash, took it home to try it out immediately. It was not apparent until I opened the heavily sealed package and held it in my hands that I could tell the controller was horribly made. When I plugged it in the N64, none of the buttons worked nearly as well as the original controllers, some barely worked at all requiring multiple presses to get a response, one got stuck every time you pressed it, and the joystick didnt have a full range of motion. I immediately took it back to Live Action within 20 minutes of buying it, and the owner rudely refused to give me my money back, only offering to give me another cheap knockoff controller as a replacement. Knowing that all these controllers would probably also be garbage, I refused and insisted on a refund. The owner became very hostile and rude to me in front of other customers in the store. I told him I planned on sharing this experience online and he said "I dont give a F*** what you do, I dont know you from Adam" and still refused to give me my money back. After putting up with him being rude and berating me for several minutes while I politely but firmly insisted on a refund, he finally reluctantly admitted that he knew the third party controllers were junk, and, gritting his teeth, agreed to give me a well-worn brand name n64 controller in exchange for the junky piece of plastic he had sold me just minutes ago, then angrily told me to get out of his store. I dont remember being told about a return policy or seeing a sign when I purchased the controller, and while I understand the reasoning for no returns on *used* merchandise, this was a *new* product that was trash made to look like a good controller. It was deceptive and fraudulent. And many other reviews confirm that they sell used merchandise that is also defective. Live Action does not stand behind its products at all and wouldnt know customer service if it hadoukened them in the face. Avoid.

Pros - Reasonable Prices, Friendly staff, Well organized, ever changing inventory. Cons - Free parking is limited. If you want a video game for your play station, game cube, dreamcast, etc were can you go? Game stop doesn’t carry old games anymore. Online tends to jack up the prices on games, and you cant return them if theirs a problem. If you live near champaign il there is a answer Live Action Games! I walked into live action games yesterday. Wow this is what a game store should be a little bit of everything. From retro game emulator systems, to old game systems. The walls were jammed with games from yesteryear. Game music playing in the background, friendly helpful staff. While I was there a few game enthusiasts were in there talking about the love of games. Tips, tricks, and tactics and all looking for that last gem to add to the collection. One person wandered in asking about a particular game being he was just short of the cash for the game he held it for the guy. Over all I like the laid back gamer atmosphere that a good game store should have. Its all about the customer not pushing the product. The inventory always changing. People selling systems, selling games, accessory’s, people buying games some rare some common but theirs always that feeling that your getting a good deal and no pressure to buy and get out. At the moment the owner runs the store as well. Hes friendly, attentive, and happy to chat about games, or systems.

Great little retro shop with knowledgeable and personal employees. They also let me set up some of my paintings for a time, so extra stars all around! Prices are OK but every once in a while youll find the random extremely overpriced PS1 title (Rayman shouldnt be $$$) or conversely, extremely underpriced PS2 classic (Final Fantasy X for $5, sign me up!). 8-bit selections are sometimes hit-or-miss but thats understandable since this is a single location kind of in the middle of nowhere central Illinois. You can always check out The Exchange if you want but the nearest one is in Indianapolis and Chicago. Even then, I find LAG to be very comparable with the bigger retro shops when it comes to price. Other stores in Champaign dont vet their inventory. Youre definitely going to get burned if you buy an older game with battery backup if you buy from Disc Replay. Those guys dont check anything besides "does it turn on". LAG has a pretty good reputation in making sure EVERYTHING works with a game. I also had LAG fix my PS3 that hasnt worked since 2011. Its hard to give up, its a launch 60-gig thats backwards compatible. As Indiana Jones would say, It belongs in a museum!".

Great place to get retro games! Although this might not be the location to buy your next PS4 or Wii U, this is a great place to catch up with old favorites all the way back to the Super Nintendo system! They have lots of obscure peripherals for games like Guitar Hero, Dance Dance Revolution, and whatever game uses those maracas lol! As for trade in value, its not much better than Gamestop, but it feels nice to support a local business, and when you sell to a store like this, youre not contributing to the decline of the video games industry, and unfairly paid workers. I would suggest you check here before going online to make a classic video game purchase!

No other place to get retro games. I was able to invest into my ps2 with very limited problems. The staff are all awesome with good conversation on games. I cannot gripe about the games themselves when it comes to how good the CDs are because they were pre owned. I just wish they get rid of ones that do not work as I have bought several games that didnt work. Other than that, this is the best place to go for old school games/console and todays games/consoles.

I found 2 NES CIBs at Live Action in Champaign and had a really great experience. Owner/operator was a nice guy. He was a chatty collector and was very courteous to me. He even let me look through his new box of loose manuals. Nice selection at reasonable prices and he was totally negotiable. I got $10 off just by asking and offering to pay in cash. I would recommend the store to anyone in the area.

I absolutely love Live Action Games. The crew that works there are super friendly and dont shake you down for sales. Theyll gladly answer any questions you have and are very honest about peripherals. They have a HUGE selection of old school Nintendo, Sega, Atari games; theyre always getting new things in. If youre a gamer, support this store!

Ive spent about a grand at this store over the last two years. Only had one problem with them, they wouldnt let me volunteer! Other than that a good store, descent prices, great customer service! I also love the decor all around the shop! Being across the street from the terminal there is plenty of free parking as well!

I went in hoping they would have a good selection of SNES games, I was wrong. The selection was limited and very over priced. None of the game consoles had prices and you had to ask for the price of almost anything if it wasnt a game. Over priced and small selection, wasnt worth my time.

They sell broken games but wont exchange them. Instead they offered to repair them for a charge. Great way to lose a customer. If you live in champaign and can get back to the store within their seven day warranty period, they might be worth your time. Otherwise avoid them.
