I went to the Snake Pit today to find two same-sex litter-mate Gerbils for my childrens Christmas. When I called originally I wanted two males as I heard they are a little less high-strung, but they didnt have any and the lady that spoke with me on the phone was very friendly and offered to order them in for Wednesday. She said they had two female litter mates though and welcomed me to stop in to check them out. When I arrived, I was pleasantly greeted and directed to the back where they keep the Gerbils and hamsters and they had three very nice animals for my wife and I to check out. She helped me get them out and they were the most well tempered little animals Ive ever held. When shopping for Gerbils, youll want to make sure that tails are not wet, eyes are bright and not caked and the nose isnt runny. These three animals appeared to be exceptionally well taken care of and their coat was very shiny and soft, as was the ferrets next to them. You can tell that the owners care a great deal about the animals they have in the store and handle them frequently, which is essential to break them in to a house hold. She was very helpful in letting me know how to take care of them, and the pricing was very reasonable for their accessories, even compared to Amazon. I wanted two Gerbils to be playmates with one another and was surprised to find that with the purchase of a cage, a Hamster or Gerbil came with it! It turns out that we were helped by the owner and his wife and they couldnt have been better at helping us with our purchase. The interior of the building is a bit cramped, the parking is tight at the front and the neighborhood is a bit sketchy in the evening, but it was well worth it and I would highly recommend them. It looks like they have just about every animal one could want in there and they all seemed very well taken care of.

A couple months ago I set up a new ten gallon fish tank and, after cycling it, began the search for fish and plants to fill it with. Started out trying to find the plants but Petsmart had a very poor selection of healthy looking plants so I settled on a small java fern, medium sagittaria, and another small plant that I later found out was not an aquatic plant at all but it was sold as one. After asking around, someone told me that the Snake Pit sold plants as well. When I went they had a huge selection of plants to pick from at a very reasonable price considering the size of some of the plants. For less than the cost of the small java fern that was purchased at Petsmart, I obtained a large java fern and a val. While there, I also looked over all of their fish and saw many healthy, happy fish. Returning a week later, I picked up five neon tetras. All were healthy and active a week later with no signs of illness. The following week I foolishly got two neons from Petsmart due to its convenient location to my apartment. The very next day one had died and two days later the other had ich. Both were returned. After treating the tank with medication for a week, I headed back to the Snake Pit and got my loving male dwarf gourami. Ive seen no aggression between any of the fish and sometimes the neons try to school with the gourami. He is always at the front of the tank watching me or swimming around and even follows me when I walk past. Everyone has been healthy and happy for three weeks now, Im very happy with my aquarium and only wish I had a bigger one to house more fish.

I bought a rabbit. It turn out having wounds on it. I tried to talk to them through Facebook about it, they were rather rude. When I wrote a review they accuse me of bringing her home just so my rabbit could beat her up. Edit : The rabbit had lice. That explains why she had wounds. She had been chewing on herself. They had sold me a 40 dollar rabbit that had lice. They repeatedly commented on my review throughout the month when I said the vet would contact them. Now the vet said he would because he didnt want a shop selling rabbits with lice. When I went to go get her check I reminded the vet his honest mistake he had forgot. A place that deals with a lot of animals I completely understood. The snake pit commented on my review again calling me a liar and such about my rabbit. I spent around over 100 dollars on vet bills and around over 100 on lice medicine and after. I had said to pet smart guy, "I had bought a rabbit at snake pit and it had lice" he has replied "Im not surprised." I love my bunny. They are just scum. They are immature & rude. Another Edit : I had asked if this rabbit was a girl, they had said yes. Today I find a penis sticking out of what is suppose to be a girl rabbit. Reason I wanted a girl is because I had another girl rabbit. This place has no idea what they are doing with rabbits.

Went in a few days ago with a friend and, despite their animals being overpriced, I was interested in a hairless rat. The employees there are ALL incredibly rude and arrogant, so I left planning on coming back with my husband in a few days. Went back today. Once again, another RUDE and ARROGANT employee. He mishandled the hairless rat I purchased today (the cashier seemed nice enough though). Not only that but shes overheated, dehydrated and thanks to these morons knowing nothing about rat care, she was placed in a cage with cedar chips and has respiratory issues. I DONT suggest purchasing from them. ETA - Only a few hours later and my poor little rat is dead. SECOND ETA: They got arrogant with my husband, tried to blame me (I have had tons of rats and know how to take care of my pets, thank you) and told him its NOT cedar its pine. RETARDS, HELLO!! PINE IS JUST AS BAD AS CEDAR!!

I went in looking for a female pet rat. Petsmart in town only carries males so The Snake Pit is the only other place to buy rats. I asked an employee if I could see their rats. One of the guys asked what size I needed and I said one around 8 weeks old. he brought out a box with 3 rats in it. I stuck my hand in the box and one female immediately ran up my arm onto my shoulder so I knew I had to take her. I asked how much? He started to say that hed have to ask because I wanted her as a pet. Well turns out if you want to buy a female for a pet its $20 but if I were to have said shed be snake food shed be at least $15 cheaper! Thats horrible to jack up the price to someone who is trying to save a baby from becoming food. My rat is still doing fantastic and I bought her nearly 4 months ago. Shes the sweetest thing ever.

Friendly staff, good selection, but check dates on products before you buy!!!! I go to snakepit for supplies for my chinchilla. I prefer to give my money to locally owned businesses, but snake pit is starting to make it difficult! I went today and this is the second time in only a couple of months that Ive brought home products that I realized were severely out of date. The one today said best by 4/28/2015 and today is 12/28/2016!!!! The product I bought before that was out of date was exchanged with no issue, but I noticed the "best by" sticker had been removed and was probably out of date as well. When you have to compete with corporate giants like petsmart, having expired products on your shelf is simply not acceptable!!!!
