Beware of MIT Computers in South Tampa. I dont know about the other locations, however I will speak directly about my experience. I brought our one year old computer in because out of the blue it was not powering up. When I dropped it off I asked them to check the power supply as it may have gone bad. They called me a few days later and told me they did a complete diagnostic check and they have come to the conclusion that the motherboard is bad. They quoted me a price of $499.00 for a new one, not including labor. They also gave an option for purchasing one of theirs... for a price of $499.00. Also they could transfer all my data from my old computer to the new for a price of $100. I asked him again if he checked the power supply and he said he did and it worked fine. Feeling uneasy, I took it up the street 2 days later and asked for an honest opinion as I am well aware that the motherboard is the very last thing you want to replace. They offered me a free diagnostic for my troubles. Low and behold it was the power supply after all. For $75.00, I recieved a new power cord and my computer is working beautifully. Listen to your gut. I went back to MIT and spoke to the young kid up front who did the diagnostic (the other guy stayed in the back yet I am certain he heard the whole conversation). He told me he tested the cord and was very defensive yet when I asked him to check it now, he did not. Another customer walked in and wanted to talk to them and I am sure they wanted me to leave. I asked for my diagnostic fee back and he complied. Honestly, stay away and beware of this place. Research your computer and know your business before you walk in the door. There are a lot of unethical people out there trying to make a quick buck. Karma my friend...

I have no words to describe how awful the level of service at MIT Computers is. At this moment, they still have my wifes computer after having been in there (no kidding) SIX TIMES. They first sold her $200 worth of services & software that werent necessary, and as a result, we had to return for a complete wipe of the system. We returned three times just for that, because they kept telling us, "It will be done this afternoon," or, "You can come get it tomorrow morning," and each time wed go in, theyd say theyre not done with it. TERRIBLE service at a TERRIBLE price. This is the place you should take your computer if for some reason you want to be without it for 2 weeks and have it return in worse shape than when you dropped it off. EDIT: We picked up the computer with a fresh load of Windows (after a full week). Less than a week later, we were getting notifications that Windows was going to expire. The manager (or, at least he called himself the manager) is rude and incompetent on his best days.

I have been to MIT every time I needed help in the last 5 years! The most memorable of desperate times was when I spilled coffee on my work laptop. I was a virtual employee for Xerox and depended 100% on this laptop. The corporate office said Id need to send them my computer, wait until I received a loaner one (2-3 days), and then it would take 2-3 weeks to fix. I went to Best Buy and they quoted me over $300 to fix the computer. Finally, I remembered MIT Computers could save my bacon! They fixed my computer within 48 hours and it cost me 1/3 of what Best Buy would have charged me! These guys are awesome and will diagnose your computer quickly then let you know the cost before you commit to anything.

I dropped off my laptop nearly 2 weeks ago to repair a simple DC jack. They still have NOT EVEN LOOKED at it, much less fixed it. I was told they only have ONE repairman for ALL the stores! God only knows when i will get my laptop back. I had this same issue with a laptop 2 years ago and mailed my broken computer to a place for repairs. That took only a week from mailing it out to getting it back. You would think dropping it off at a local place in person would take even less time..not over twice as long. This was my first time using this company and needless to say they have made a horrible first impression.

In Tampa it seems that one can purchase a computer from every retailer, pawn broker and ebay. We, however, will continue to purchase all of our computers from MIT due to the outstanding service we have received over the years. Recently we dealt with Mike at the Dale Mabry store and he could not have been any more helpful. In the past, Salem was equally impressive. It seems foolish to purchase a computer from anyone else and then have to rely upon them for questions or technical issues. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am somewhat computer knowledgeable (or used to be) and am usually a little bit skeptical of retail PC repair shops, but I was really pleased with my experience at MIT (pronounced "Mit," not M-I-T, apparently) this week. My custom cooling system broke down and they had me back up and running and working in just 24 hours. Braden up front was very helpful and the cost of the service was reasonable. They also have some good deals on equipment and hardware. I suggest checking them out if you need something.

I had a great experience with MIT Computers, and received excellent customer service from Aakash. I went in recently because my desktop wouldnt turn on, and Aakash was able to determine the problem and replace the power source quickly. I was impressed with his helpful, friendly demeanor, professionalism and knowledge. I will definitely be going back to MIT Computers next time I have any issues with my computer or phone, and I would recommend them to anyone!

Avoid this place at all costs, they advertise free diag , what a joke, the free part is when you take your computer in their and the guy behind the counter takes his best over priced guess. I took my Sony laptop that was not powering up and the guy looked at it for 5 minutes and said $385 to replace the motherboard, thank God I took it down the street after they checked it out they told me my power supply had died, and charged me $59 for a new one.

Horrible services and turn around time. Marvin is a terrible person to deal with. They gives you the run around. It is the mother board and this and that. No one is responsible for their action. I witnessed countless of DISsatisfy customers. They will pitch for an easy fix or low prices. But as far as technical skills, failed miseably. YOU CAN BET I will NEVER comes back again. I hope the place get run down the ground.

Even for an unusual request, MIT Computers proved to provide exceptional service. This morning I realized that my smart phone battery was completely dead. By chance I asked if the MIT Computer rep would be willing to help me charge my phone. He was willing to do this for me without charging me for the service. MIT Computers is one place I will definitely consider when I have a true hardware problem!
