BOOM! vs CELL PHONE DATA LINK INTERFACE MYSTERY SOLVED!!! I bought a new 2016 CVO Street Glide a few months back and after being unable to get my smart phone to interface with the BOOM! Audio system except by Bluetooth, I re-read my owners manual and saw mostly Apple or iPhone references. So I went out and traded in my Android phone, which only worked on Bluetooth but not through the data link, expecting my new iPhone SE to work as indicated in the manual - but NO it didnt! My Sprint salesman couldnt get it to work either, so I called Tampa HD. I spoke to Ryan, Service Mgr, who invited me to come over, assuring me that hed seen my problem many times before. So I rode right over and as he promised, he went through the steps on hard wiring my iPhone to the BOOM! data link and got "No Readable Media Files Found", the music that had been playing stopped and the screen went mostly blank. He then tried another cable to no avail, then he reached into his own pocket and tried his somewhat older iphone 5S AND IT WORKED! So he quickly deduced that the problem wasnt the bike, but unlike other uncaring people who would have walked away saying "not mine, tough luck", he wouldnt give up just yet. Even though my bike was less than 4 months old at that point, he updated the software to the latest and greatest, but that didnt work either. So he finally suggested that I go back to Sprint and show them that the bike did work on his phone, just not mine. After 3 hours at Sprint, buying an upgraded iPhone 6S, and so on, THE NEW PHONE STILL DIDNT WORK! So I suggested that we call Apple Tech Support. To make a long story shorter, I finally met a "Genius" (their term.. really) who was a biker also. He too had seen my problem but couldnt explain why some phones worked and others just wouldnt. So he and I went outside to my bike and he plugged in his phone to witness that my bike did connect to his phone, but not mine. He then wiped my phone clean and just installed i tunes and 1 song, plugged my phone in AND IT WORKED!! It turns out that the BOOM! is built on APPLE technology and because of that, it needs to see Media with Apple formatting to work. Once it saw that one song that was installed on my phone, my PANDORA played, the album cover comes up on the screen, I can surf my genres just as if I was holding my phone in my hand - and my phone works both on voice and text too! IM A HAPPY GUY! Thanks to Richie - the stores General manager for having my back and Ryan - the stores Service Manager for not giving up and leaving me hanging! The Apple Genius at International Plaza who helped solve the mystery was Mike Nicolini. The Sprint agent in Palm Harbor who wouldnt give up was Richard Cantu. I now have a fully functioning BOOM! As you have read, I was determined to find a solution to make my BOOM! fully functional and had it not been for the steadfast support and reassurance of Richie and Ryan, who not only tried their very best themselves, but invited me to seek more expert help and to keep them in the loop = gave me the confidence and support I needed to see this most challenging issue solved. Harley-Davidson of New Port Richey 2014 Tri Glide Big Mick, Jack and Ken best customer service. We are Thomas & Roxanne Cavender We would like to take the time to give credit to some of the Team members of the Harley shop that we had the pleasure to meet and deal with. They made us feel like they really cared for what we were doing which means a lot to us. We meant Big Mick in 2012 when we bought our first Harley in sometime of not owning one for several years. He has been a friend to us since. He was so very kind, helpful and honest that we decided to come back to the dealership to purchase our new Tri Glide. We had been thinking and looking at them for several years but as you know it is a big purchase on the funny side cost more than our first home. Mick helped us in deciding to make the right fit for us he didnt push as if he had we would have been right out the door, but instead helped us as a friend would he is an exceptional man. We made the right decision for us with his help. Jack another salesman helped us too in every way he could as he is new to the dealership he was awesome to deal with he went out of his way to meet our every need and beyond we made a new friend. The business manager Ken explained every detail from the financing to the warranty and than also help us to get our insurance as we are snowbirds and have only been in Florida a couple of years. When you are dealing with money I am always a little nervous but he went slow explaining everything so we understood it all. The team in New Port Richey from the guys at the parts to the girls in clothing were kind and courteous and helpful helping us find what we wanted. This Harley shop as we have dealt with several looking and shopping has the best staff we have ever had the pleasure to deal with. I thank them all we love our new Tri Glide and hope to enjoy the pleasure of ridding for many years to come. The experience at Tampa Harley was beyond excellent. I have been riding for just under 40 years and this has been the best motorcycle purchasing experience I have ever encountered. My wife and I were refereed to Stephen from a good friend who told us about his great experience in buying a motorcycle the month before. I called and setup a time for an appointment and he called the day before to confirm. We arrived and he was waiting for us with our demo ride ready and waiting. This is when we met Matt and he took us for the test ride on the new Street Glide Special. During the ride he noticed my wife through his mirror struggling with her helmet (we do not wear helmets), he stopped got of his bike walked back and offered to adjust the helmet which was a little loose. Stephen took that opportunity to have my bike appraised by old bike and complimented me on the great shape it was in. He gave me a fair price toward the new 2016 Street Glide Special but after some additional haggling I received the price I was really wanting and a reduce price on the $1,200.00 extra in parts I wanted. During the paperwork we got to do the poker walk where we visit each department and receive a card. The place was busy and each member of that department took the time to explain what they had to offer and always had a smile on their face and a hearty handshake. Stephen was doing a great job introducing us to the managers and other team member while the paperwork was being prepared and the parts installed on our new ride. One manager the tease him and call him (Aladdin) pulled me aside and wanted to know truthfully if my experience was happy and fun. The very short answer is yes. I would recommend this dealership to anyone. I have been in sales for over thirty years and would be proud to work for a team like this. We feel like family!
