Recently moved to Gainesville from Pinellas Co., FL. For years, I have shopped at two Joan Fabric Stores close to me. One in Dunedin and one in New Port Richey. I have shopped at Joan Fabric Stores many other places besides those two. I get my fabric and they have high quality, unusual decorations, silk flowers, beads. Today I went to the Joan Fabric located at 3202 SW 35th Blvd. Gainesville, FL. I was on a tight schedule and really needed to purchase some tulle fabric and some ribbon. I didnt have time to wait out the really bad thunderstorm dropping buckets of water straight down. I found the white tulle I needed, but there wasnt enough of the yellow tulle that had tiny sparks of glitter, but there was another tulle the very same color but with no glitter. I thought I would use the two different tulles so I went up to the counter to get them cut and marked for purchase. While I was waiting, I decided the non-glittered tulle was not going to work. (Theres almost always a wait at Joan Fabric, but theyre about the only place you can get fabric these days so you just wait...) My number was called and I got the younger woman with the Halloween hair: black with dark grayish green streaks. Her hair actually looked pretty good. Im just mentioning the way it was colored so theres no confusion about who waited on me. I sat the two yellow tulles on the counter and I asked her if she could check and see if they could get more of the glittered tulle because I needed about 15-20 yards of it to make tutus. She looks at the numbers on the end of each bolt and the numbers are the same. So she tells me, "This is the same fabric." I said, "No. This one has glitter and this one doesnt. I thought I would use the non-glitter for my project, but I changed my mind while waiting in line. I want all glittered and I dont want you to order off that number until youre sure its the glittered tulle please." She says, "No. Glitter gets on everything here. Its just glitter from something next to it." Then she laughed at me like I was stupid. I pulled back the layers of fabric all the way to the cardboard holding the bolt and said, "See? Glitter all the way through." "TRUST ME. ITS THE SAME FABRIC. ITS THE SAME NUMBER. ITS THE SAME FABRIC!" Me...as I tossed the white tulle onto the pile of yellow tulles: "You know what? I dont want anything." And I left. And my project is on hold right now. That Joan Fabric needs to understand that I will never shop at their store again and Im going to be in Gville for three years. I do projects all the time because Im a retired floral designer. I spend a lot of money on fabric and craft items. I will try the other Joan Fabric in Gainesville and if that one is terrible then Ill go to Ocala. If Ocala is terrible then Ill drive the three hours south to my Joan Fabric stores where I know the customer service is good.

The store itself has a wide variety of selections, however the customer service is HORRIBLE! I would much rather go to Hobby Lobby, Michaels or even Walmart for a pleasurable shopping experience than walk around a store where the staff doesnt acknowledge you. They dont greet you, there is no particular line to stand in to get fabric cut, you have to pull a number but they dont instruct you to pull a number, they have 1 small sign & if you are a first time shopper there & dont know their process or dont "see" the sign, THEY DONT ASSIST YOU WITH FABRIC OR EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE YOU ARE THERE, UNTIL ...YOU PULL A NUMBER!! So if no ones at the counter but you & 2 ppl walk up behind you, sorry they are going to call the next NUMBER Theres no hospitality, they dont ask "Can I help you find anything" they dont ask customers at check out "Did you find everything you needed," they Dont say "hello" they dont say anything because they could care less! Yes Im observant! Their staff is not there to make your shopping experience a pleasure, their staff is strictly their for their paycheck. With all that being said...I put my fabric back & went to Hobby lobby!

Im in love with the new location! Some many new crafts and hobbies to try out and when i have a question there is always an helpful staff member near by to ask advice or tips from. One thing i cant wait to try is the classroom craft classes, i looked inside and felt like a kid in a candy store :D Not only does Joann carry all neat and cool fabric for making one of a kind of blankets that my family and friends love. But i love their holiday sales! Which is prefect for a student like me, also they give you discount for being a student, i mean how great! I first when to Joanns because i was in art class and needed supplies. However, it was not long until i just love going so much for anything and everything! I understand some people have a bad time there like in most places, Im sure if you would jut let the staff know they will help. I however personally have not had a problem and enjoy shopping at Joanns!

Horrible customer service, bought some fabric and craft items for my Girl Scout troop, ended up leaving the frabic becasue although they had muntiple employees in the store only one was cutting fabric. Went back in to do an even exchange because I bought the wrong color DMC floss and although the girl who had checked me out the day before was right there and told her that I paid full price for those because of all the items I bought, the Manager Beth refused to let me exchange the products. She would only do a return for half price. I walked out of the store at this time, I kept the floss that I brought and went to Michaels located on the same block and brought the remaining items I needed. It worked out well that the manager was so horrible because I discovered that not only are the items cheaper at Michaels but the accept Joann coupons. From now on I will save time and go to Michaels or Hobby Lobby.

Helpful staff, but is always understaffed and has long lines. Needs a wider variety of fabrics (and lower prices!!) Unfortunately, this store has the biggest variety of fabrics in town. This Joanns has an extremely limited selection of presser feet and only very basic classes. I wish we had another fabric/sewing store in town, but this will have to do

Friendly, knowledgeable staff and an unmatched selection of bits and parts for almost any project. I have never had a poor experience with Joannrs (unlike other stores in town) and have always had people help me find deals or coupons to help me save money. I could not in good conscience send a friend anywhere else.

I never used to like JoAnns, but theyve improved , with their vast selection and coupons ( including those theyll text to you if you sign up). I go here now for 95% of my yarn and other craft needs ( my other go-to is WM but they only seem to carry Red Heart yarn now ). JoAnns has a large yarn selection !
