Day 1 While car buying can be a hassle in itself, I have found that Deery Bros. of Iowa City certainly did not make this process any easier. I am currently shopping for a vehicle and found an SUV on Sunday that was on their website. Not knowing that the dealership was open on Monday (Memorial Day) I waited until Tues. and checked the website and was pleased to still find that the SUV was still for sale. I headed out on my hour drive to look at this vehicle . I arrived at the dealership at approx. 4:45 pm, found the SUV on the lot, got out of my vehicle and proceeded to look at the SUV. After looking at the SUV for about 8 minutes the doors all locked. Strange ???? Yes, but I thought that possibly the dealership was closing, 3 minutes later a salesman approached me. His first question for me was do you have any questions? I asked What time do you close? he responded with 8 pm. I continued the conversation with stating that the doors had locked on the SUV, His response was, Oh that sold this morning. at that same time another salesman came and placed a sold sign on the dash, I responded with thats why you locked me out the SUV? Im thinking now how rude was that after watching me from the sales floor. The salesman then proceeded to try and sell me another vehicle. After 6-7 minutes of questions I said sorry but you dont have anything else Im interested in? The salesman let me leave. Day2 Wednesday I began my online search again. Once again my search directed me to this same SUV on Deery Bros. website. This time I called and asked for a salesman, I got Alex. I asked if they still had this SUV, he looked it up and said "yes". I responded with I would like to look at it again and schedule a time on Thursday to come down and test drive it. 3pm Once again I headed out on my hour drive to the dealership only to get a call (after driving half the way) from the salesman telling me that this SUV sold last night. Now Im really pissed after spending 3 hours on the road to try and buy your SUV. So my questions for you are.. 1. How do you sell a vehicle twice on 2 different days at 2 different times? 2. Did this vehicle actually sell? 3. Why didnt the 1st salesman take my name just in case? 4. Dont your sales people have business cards? 5. Would I ever buy a vehicle from you after the way I was treated? ANSWER: NO I realize that I should have done a few things different, but do I have to beg your dealership to buy a vehicle? Its customers that keep this dealership in business. You should treat them like you want them to buy a vehicle from you. You can call me anytime, I would love to hear from someone of importance. Alex has my number.

On a recent trip from Maryland to Colorado via Omaha, NE my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee broke down on me in Iowa City. I found Deery Brothers on google and took the jeep there for an estimate to continue the trip to drop off a vehicle for my mother in law to borrow as she was in need. After getting the bad news about my current Jeep I went to the sales side where I stood for several minutes without being acknowledged. Finally a gentleman asked if I needed help to which I replied that yes I need a vehicle to continue my trip. After finding out what I wanted Trent told me he had a Jeep that fit my needs. It was truly a great looking car and I assumed my wife would be happy with the upgrade. Trent and I talked about price and where I needed to be. He took my number to the magic room where the "magic" happens at a car dealership and walked back to me and stated he couldnt do the $26,000 I was looking to spend, best he could do would be $28-$28,500 to which I agreed would be acceptable. Then Trent told me he was going to work the taxes and registration into the loan which I appreciated. Once it came time to go to finance I saw a number of $32,923.00. Some quick math in my head led me to denote that $28,500.00 at a 8.1% tax rate (as I was from CO) with title and license would equal approximately $33,xxx dollars. I then went to finance and as Trent and Jerry both knew I was VERY VERY pressed for time as I did not plan on a 3 hour stop in Iowa City. After purchasing my new Jeep and finishing my trip I was able to look at the "deal" I received at Deery Brothers. After looking at the numbers I ended up paying $33,923.00 for the Jeep less my trade in of $2500.00 put me at a base price of $31,423.00 which is obviously over the $28-$28,500.00 price Trent had given me. I sent an email to Trent, Jerry (finance), and Steve (manager) explaining this and hoped they would reach a resolution that was appropriate as what Trent had told me was a $2,977.00 lie. The response I received from Deery Brothers was nothing less than I expected where Trent advised me how the number that was spoken about was a number he was trying for and not actually agreeing to and how I saw the numbers several times and I should have realized the price. Deery Brothers is not very honest and be careful where you spend your money. I asked to have the numbers redone where Trent and I agreed and was denied so sharing my experience is the only option I have left to advise others to be careful here. Michael Pursley

I had been thinking about purchasing a new vehicle for some time, but was still in love with driving something that was paid off. On a business trip last week, my 10-year-old Grand Cherokee 120K broke down outside of North Liberty then Murphy’s Law continued to take over and I ran 99 additional problems stemming from being stranded near Iowa City when I needed to be in Milwaukee. The next day I corresponded with Sandy from the service department at Deery Bros. where my Jeep was to be serviced. She could immediately sense my frustration and simply said “Let me take care of all of this for you.” She made all arrangements with the IL Jeep Service Center, North Liberty Automotive (who were great as well,) and the towing company. After receiving very poor customer from a car rental place that ironically rhymes with ‘empathize’ - I was grasping at straws to find a way get home to IL or at least from my hotel to the dealership and to Hertz Car Rental – Sandy called me back and ended up skipping her lunch to personally pick me up in Coralville and bring me back to the shop so that I could meet with the service manager. She even promised to drive me to Hertz afterward. On the way to the dealership, I decided to weigh all my options and figured looking at some newer vehicles would not be a bad idea. She introduced me to Fred who just so happened to be her husband! Fred was awesome, he answered all my questions, and most importantly did not pressure me at all – I think he understood when I woke up this morning I had no intention of buying a new Jeep. I quickly found that the Grand Cherokee has come a long way over the past 10 years and it was not hard to fall in love with a 75th Anniversary Edition. I was treated fairly, the process was quicker than expected, and the finance manager Jerry was very knowledgeable and thorough. Everyone I dealt with that day really helped even my stress levels. I’ve now had a few days to digest my decision to drive home in a new Grand Cherokee and even received a thoughtful follow up call from my Southpaw-friend, Fred. I can say without a doubt – this was best dealership experience I have ever had. Youre a great team and have big hearts, Sandy & Fred. Thanks Deery Bros, Ill be back. -Pete
