I love this place. Its a great selection of stores and you can get a lot of good shopping done in one place. I would like to see Safeway turn into Giant or another grocery store. A better grocery store, but well wait and see. The little park around the area is OK. Its pretty when crowds of people arent there but Im sure that will change once the gentrification sinks in. As a Browncoat Im against it but it would look nicer. I just hope it wont change too much. The Dollar Tree and Payless are a great addition to the other stores (Safeway can go to H-E- DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS but) Hopefully theyll fix the elevators.

I have nothing but LOVE for this place. I grew up in this neighborhood, and have been traveling to and from this mall since I was a little girl. I am pleased with the level of infrastructure improvements made to this mall, and the new stores added. The city needs to invest time and energy in the growing homeless issue. There are a lot of people, who hang out around the mall, that are battling socioeconomic and mental health issues. This may make some people, who come to visit and shop at this mall, a bit uncomfortable and concerned about there safety.

My famiy has lived in this neighborhood for over 50 years and have seen numerous changes at Hechinger Mall. Although stores have come and gone, the ones that are there now (Ross, Payless, Rainbow, Dollar Store, Modells Sports, Subway, Safeway, etc.) gives me one-stop shopping for all the things I may want or need. I also take advantage of traveling on the still FREE STREETCAR thats very convenient for me for going anywhere on H Street NE & beyond Hechinger Mall.

1) Theres a long, long staircase to the lower level, If youre disabled like me it can be very dangerous. The only alternative is a long walk around more than half the mall rather youre going to the upper or lower level. The Safeway sells rotten fish products, I had to ask them to smell it and they agreed it was rotten. They went into the back and got me something fresh. Most fish, especially if dressed only have a shelf life of 3 days.

BUYER BEWARE!!! Do not order shoes from the online store! Its actually quite embarrassing how bad their management is. I honestly feel like Im being swindled by this business. I currently have a fraudulent activity case open with my bank against this business. They will NOT respond to any emails or phone calls. BUYER BEWARE!!!

This should be demolished and turned into a either a parking lot for H Street businesses or into high-end apartments. I see no need in continuing the existence of a place whose seemingly sole purpose is to provide a location for homeless and crack-heads to hang out and harass every person that enters/leaves/passes by.

Large budget shopping mall for basics -- nothing out of the ordinary. Definitely not a tourist stop or for higher-end shoppers. Having a post office there is something of a plus as far as making a stop at this mall.

This shopping center is not what it used to be years ago. I no longer live in the D.C. area but visited a couple of months and stopped there just to check it out but was very disappointed when I got there.

The service in Rainbow is very unpleasant.I will not return. And Ross service is okay just clothes are unorganized and noone on the floor to help you. Overall, Hechinger Mall not so nice service.

Convenient when needing items for home. Not far from H street. But the Safeway could be more of a welcome when it comes to the African American crowd.
