We had the pleasure of traveling your train for our entire trip, coming to Union Station in D.C. three times. The first time we met a Red Cap that was wonderful. He really took us under his wing and made sure each time we were in the station that we were where we were supposed to be and at that time. Upon our arrival, the first time, he helped us secure our Big Red Bus passes that made our stay in D.C. so easy. His name is Douglas Mitchell and we felt blessed to get him the first time and be able to have his guidance each time after. You are so fortunate to have him at your D.C. station. What a great ambassador for the Red Caps there. Hope other travelers will try to find him as he is extremely thoughtful and pays attention to detail. He will make sure you have the information you need to make your stay in Washington or your continued trip easier. Thanks Mitchell!! When we come back, and we will, we will look for you again. Thanks Amtrak for having Douglas Mitchell there to make our first train travel experience great.

I travel to and from from the Union Station every week and I think its one of the nicer stations in the US! I really like Union Station; or at least, the places that I haunt in Union Station. Note that the station is enormous: some parts of it are gorgeous, like the fountains and statues near the entrance, others are cozy and welcoming and great to work, like the coffee-shop corner (LPQ, Au Bon Pain etc.). And then there is the place in Union Station that I avoid - the downstairs level with the food-places - very seedy, dingy, and unfriendly. If you want food, youre better off sticking to the slightly nicer selection of places at the Amtrak level (you have options such as Roti Mediterranean Grill, Shake Shack, Potbellys, Chopt). My favorite place to sit down and get some work done is the Le Pan Quotidien. It has free Wi-Fi, good service, and is quiet and cosy. I highly recommend it if you have to kill some time before getting onto your train/bus.

Its a lovely place to stop by, even if youre not taking the train anywhere. Akin to New Yorks Grand Central Terminal, the main area is a great place to get that awesome family photo or the like. Dont just take that picture and leave. Absolutely make sure to go through to the next corridor where youll see 3 levels of shops and wonderful architecture. The lower level is a large cafeteria area with all the normal takeout fare, along with a few local one-offs. If you continue through to the next corridor youll get to see the ticketing and boarding areas along with a few more shops and dining options. Its a cute and quaint feel, given that its quite a substantial size travel hub. Bon Voyage!

Definitely the best Union station I have been to till date in states. I love the awesome architecture and the way the building has been maintained. The only other place which comes close to Union station in terms of architecture would be Grand Central in NY. The architecture include classical elements the Arch of Constantine and the great vaulted spaces of the Baths of Diocletian. There are overwhelming options here when it comes to food and shopping. I never expected so many good places to shop to exist at this Union station. Though not best but they do have plenty of options when it comes to food and have a huge course on the floor downstairs.

I would have given 5 stars if parking (even with validation) wasnt so pricey and it was finished remodeling. That said its a great place to have lunch at. Choose from one of the restaurants or go to the food court which has plenty to offer. They have great shops and the whole atmosphere feels upscale. You forget that it is actually a train station as it seems more relaxed then others I have been to. I went for an activity for Earth-day and it was fun and well organized. I have not spend anytime at the Bus terminal so I can not comment on it.

Pros: Wonderful, stunning architecture from the days when they still believed in big public works projects. Decent selection of shops and restaurants. Cons: The shops and restaurants have taken over most of the station and the boarding area for the actual trains (this is a train station, after all) has been compressed to a tiny little sliver at the back. As a result, the lines and crowds can get ridiculous in that part of the station. Worth a visit if youre in the city, even if you arent taking a train.

Liked Union Station and all it had to offer. Very disapointed on its condition. In serious need of maintenance, dirty and things in need of repairs. Caulking and grout falling out or missing in most of the stone work. Flag poles out front rusting and in need of fresh paint. Beautiful fountain out front not working and covered with plywood. The grounds/grass in bad condition and the homeless camped out with mounds of trash. Sad.....Disney World and Las Vegas are better maintained than this.

If I pay over 100.00 for a trip from Union Station to NYC or Union Station to anywhere, especially via Acela, I expect the waiting room to be a little bit better than the train waiting room in a 3rd world country. Cut up and soiled seats, homeless people sprawled all over the place and barely working WIFI and power outlets which you must stand up to use. #scamtrak #unionstationsucks

Absolutely gorgeous, massive station. Stepping into it feels like being transported back to the Jazz Age. These days it also contains a bunch of shops and restaurants; theres a food court in the basement, and another cluster in the west wing off the atrium. Not really a place to hang out without cause, and gets crowded during peak travel times, but makes for a much prettier commute.

Union Station is one of the most delightful places in DC. It is a very old, historic, and beautiful train station that has been converted partially into a shopping mall and food court. For travelers on the go, you will find an expansive selection of restaurants to choose from as well as quite a bit of shopping for that last minute gift on the way home for the holidays.

I really liked it here. The architecture is amazing not only in the main part of the station but down below and the hustle bustle of all the trains coming and going is fun is pretty cool. Lots of shopping, places to eat and parking, it was great. We spent a good part of our day here just walking around and had great pizza before we left.

This is a nice place. I didnt expect it to be as it is. The interior decoration is modern so you cannot connect the era of the outside architecture to that of the inside. Also, I could easily say this is a shopping mall with train stopping by rather than a station with shops. It has a big food court with good selection of speciality food.

Somewhat confusing as to where the Buses Depart. Then when you get to the 3rd Floor of the garage the disorder is intimidating, more so for tourists! It should be set similar to Boston South Term but its DC Smart. The Union Station started TAXing all these captured bus services under its control, so we hope for the better.
