A friend and I attended Civils first Friday Night Lights event, an education in cigars and pairings. It was my first time and I loved it. The store within the lounge was stocked full of great options, every room in the lounge was comfy and cozy and the staff was very knowledgeable. For the Friday Night Lights gathering, we were able to pick from two cigars and a bourbon or rye to accompany it. From there we were taught how to cut, light and hold a cigar and how to identify flavors when pairing them with a spirit. I know it sounds like Cigars 101, but there were smokers of different skill levels there who had a great time as well. After the class, we were seated in another part of the lounge and had dinner. The menu was a limited one from Range, which is next door. The food was great, the additional cigars and cocktails we ordered were satisfying and the owners were still floating around answering whatever questions we could come up with. The BEST PART: whatever air system they have in place keeps the air smoke free so I wasnt choking on cigar smoke all night and when we left, I didnt smell like an ashtray. The Friday Night Lights series will continue the third Friday of every month, so Ill definitely be back. But before that, Ill be back for a cigar and a cocktail just to relax and hang with friends. This is the best cigar bar/lounge Ive been to in this area.

My friend and I were first time cigar smokers. We went to Civil xmas eve before we went to a dinner party. We told our host, whose name I cant remember, that we were first timers. He explained everything to us and answered all of our questions. We could not have asked for a better first time experience. Everyone was very nice. The atmosphere was very relaxing. The drinks were excellent! We were kind of bummed that we had to leave for our dinner party, but were will return! Keep up the great work Civil!

The service was absolutely horrible. They forgot our food and the manager came over and said the the kitchen is backed up while everybody else who came after us got their food. They brought our food after 90 minutes And said they cannot Add another table to put our food on it since we had a small table. They almost put or food on the floor until we complained and threatened to to leave they some one came over and told them to put a table for us. Really really bad service

Not conducive to talking and enjoying a cigar with strangers. Very upscale. If you want a place to smoke and have a great convo with other smokers, Shellys is the place. Even Signature up the street is better, but unfortunately closes at 8. Best thing about Civil is the ventilation, which is great if you dont want to go home smelling like you smoked 80 sticks. Other than that, overhyped but worth going if you havent been.

Great Cigar selection and knowledge! I also liked the music, drinks, AND the food is pretty awesome. Not what I expected from a cigar place. The ventilation is also second to none. I didnt go home having to immediately wash my hair LOL. Great atmosphere to relax and let off some steam.

Great spot to smoke a stogie, network, and maybe watch a game. Great service, and Paul is the best manager ever! He gives great advice on cigars and scotch, and will even take time to listen to you and check on you. This place is the cigar bar we have been wanting for years!!!!

Best cigar place in DC hands down. High end spirits, pappy, EH Taylor, Whistle Pig, etc. Great cigars and a great cigar shop with a great selection to purchase before bar opens and can purchase more after bar opens at the bar.

Very cool spot! It can be a bit quiet sometimes which makes for an odd atmosphere, but when it is busy it is a great spot to hang out at. Knowledgeable staff.
