Man, I thought I could hate. First off, if you are dealing with John, the old gentleman, he will not steer you wrong on your pet needs, but it is best to bring your reptile in to him for any concerns you my have and, since he loves reptiles, he will be happy to helps you in any way he can (He is the manager). Secondly, the owner is a ditz, no going around that. She means well but it is best not to deal with her (no offence but this is from my personal experience). Third, the other employees may be young, but they are dedicated to what they do. Fourth, my beloved and I have been going there for over a year now with no complaints, happily bringing in our female albino California King snake, Chimie and, unlike the hate-monger Lisa Roberts that left a review w/out websites to back her info up (may you live in interesting times), I have not once seen an animal, or in this case specifically reptile, neglected. Have you ever stepped in a reptile store? The smell is due to the extra heat and humidity needed to keep them comfortable. Animals do get sick! Thankfully there are people like Brice (who works at the Denver Zoo as a vet asst.) that come in to help take a look at them (yes there are more than him with higher degrees of learning too) if they are under the weather. Not all snakes need large cages you dumkoff. And I have not seen this so called "animal neglect" once so without supporting web info and, even better, OMG, VIDEO FOOTAGE, please derp off. And mice are food there, not pets. I take it youve never killed your own dinner like I have before (growing up in Alaska its always good to learn) either hunting moose or the many times I have brain bashed a fish after a live catch? If you have not and are still a meat eater please either hunt and kill your own food sometime, stop eating meat or shut the hell up about it. Are you saying that its wrong for our albino Chimie to kill and eat only live food because she only (after many tries and even though John recommends it due to the fact her eyes can be injured taking down a mouse, no joke) eats that way. Fifth, Audrey In your review it sounds like you have the hots for younger guys and, knowing them, they would turn you down flat, not sure who the the female is as well so you should keep your trap shut about that issue, dont even know Johns name (the manager of the store) and have a bias towards him (maybe because he is a veteran like myself, maybe because he is a wealth of info and makes you feel stupid, maybe because he wont ever kiss anyones ass which I truely respect, I dunno) and just trying to promote "Scales and Tails". In the time weve been going there I have NEVER known fish to be sold and if rabbits are sold they are FOOD NOT PETS! if you don"t like it, dont go. Lastly, this is just my personal opinion, unless you check out Jurassic Pets yourself as Lavar Burton on "Reading Rainbow" used to say, "Don"t take my word for it."

As an employee of a large corporate pet store (and thereby technically competition), I can safely say that these people know their business. I frequently refer people to Jurassic Pets when I am faced with a customer who needs specific (or obscure) reptile/amphibian/arachnid items or information. I frequent the store myself, as I have a finicky ball python who refuses to eat frozen/thawed. Every time Im there, I feel welcome, valued, and I never leave feeling like I was just another transaction. I feel confident with each purchase that I have obtained quality goods, and that I have supported a good mom-and-pop store. What I find interesting to note specifically is that I *cannot* in good conscience refer customers in my own store to their competition/former proprietors. I have heard too many stories - from customers themselves - of the terrible care taken of the animals kept at ScalesnTails. I can, however, feel confident in referring customers to Jurassic Pets, as I know firsthand how well they provide proper lighting, heat, humidity, and nutrition for even their most exotic creatures. Animal care at a pet store is no easy task, believe me. They do it very well, and are attentive to every detail and every need of their menagerie. Theyre also extremely ethical in their sales, meaning they wont just sell a living thing willy-nilly to some yahoo who doesnt care if it dies from neglect. They carefully weigh their customers intentions, and parse out those who would mistreat or neglect their animals. Due to that careful consideration (and care in the animals future well-being), I am able to refer customers to them for adopting out pets they can no longer care for. Have an oscar you cant handle anymore? Or a snake that your son left behind when he moved to Bolivia? How about a plecostomus thats ten sizes too big for your tank? Talk to them and see if they can take it in to rehome. Theyll take great care of them and find them a good place to live. Whatever youve heard or experienced about their past, before being privately owned, you can pretty well forget. This new management is amazing, ethical, honest, sincere, and knowledgeable. Id recommend them - and do - every time.

I absolutely do not like this store. I liked it when it was scales and tails but the new owner no thank you. One of the girls who works here I am not sure if shes a manager or whats up with that is a hot freaking mess. Everytime I have gone in here she behaves as if shes high or crack. She behaves crazy. I do not do well when people are shouting for no reason. And half the crap that she says makes no sense and is not relevant to anything nor does she know very much about reptiles. Prices from the corn snakes suck I am not paying 100+ dollars for a normal corn snake that you have had sitting in your cage for 2 years. The baby corn snakes always look quite thin and every snake I have ever purchased here after new ownership has passed away. Their mice are disgusting. They had fish for a while which they did not know how to care for their was a rope fish there one day who was swollen beyond belief and spinning circles trying to swim. The fish are gone now thank god. The tanks are disgusting they have poop buildup everywhere. I clean my cages daily the animals stay healthier I dont know why they arent cleaning more. The odors are foul I know its a reptile store its not gonna smell like freshly baked apple pie and roses but it smells of feces from them not cleaning enough. The older man who works there is also weird and doesnt know what hes talking about he creeps me out. There is two younger guys that I like there the vet tech kid is super nice and another guy that helped me last time I was there. I got a rabbit there because I was worried she was going to pass away she was skin and bones. Shes now a normal sized no bones showing rabbit. I really dislike this store and I try to stay away for the most part once in a blue moon Ill pop in to see if they have cleaned up there act which is always a no. Its always disgusting and still has the same unprofessional employees(not counting the two younger men they are good at their jobs they are not the problem). I am all about Scales and Tails down the road. Never go in here unless youre ok with poor prices, weird unprofessional employee, and super disgusting habitats and odors.
