Its a slightly more Super El Super Ill admit I have only been to 3 other El Super markets. The other 3 wouldnt have warranted 2 stars. What sets this El Super in Wilmington apart - in my view - is the cleanliness of the store, particularly the fresh meat and fish areas. The market caters to people who like Hispanic types of butchering - and I am one of those people - but while the style of cutting the meat may be different usual chops and roasts, having a clean meat department is a must if I am going to try your chorizo. I was impressed each time at the very clean counters, glass containers and the aprons of the meat department staff. Before you enter the main market, there is a hot service deli. You order and pay for those items before you do your regular shopping which can sometimes cause extra waiting time. But the deli staff are very friendly and very bi-lingual. As always, the differences between a Hispanic market and the standard gabacho supermarket are evident on every aisle - it seems we all like to eat foods we grew up with, no matter where we reside as adults. El Super tries to bridge the small Hispanic corner market that carries obscure brands of tamarind soda with supermarket size items and prices. I think they do a fairly adequate job, but this El Super is more successful than the others I have visited.

Pros: Open before 8AM weekdays to grab fresh food for breakfast. Hot food deli sells fresh guacamole by the pound. Its spicy but good. The rest of the food items are decent in selection of Latin cuisine staples. Cons: Prices way too high for the low quality fresh produce. El Súper need to cut it for real. Strawberries and blueberries were molded and soggy at 7:30am. Like wth? How? Wait times in checkout lines are too long. At least 10-15 mins everyday, morning and afternoon. The cashiers are very nice ladies with great customer service and deserve more assistance from management staffing during heavy customer traffic hours. They could begin to stock healthier items too. Its mostly pork and chicken in the frozen section.

Security warning. Credit terminals defective. Total confirmation screen does not display authorization total. You are blindly agreeing to a blank amount. At best, its bad programming that doesnt meet requirements. At worse, the terminals have been compromised.

Not your typical El Super. Employees had no clue where items were, and the layout was confusing. Besides that, the outside is overrun with homeless and/or pan-handlers. Even the cops were rushing into the Rite Aid, next door, for a call!

Need to have more registers open when there is more than 5 people in line. It gets to where there is 8-15 people and only 2 registers open. The meat department good customer service.
