What did you do? Change the Kool -Aid? I was incredulous about the positive change at the Home Depot store in San Rafael, CA. I am your consumer - a homeowner remodeling her house. The one you spend thousands of dollars in marketing to lure me in…. Disclosures regarding this review : No. I don’t have relatives who work at HD. No. I don’t have friends who work at HD. No. I don’t drink Kool-Aid. I used to hate going to HD until this transformation occurred. Before, employees were pleasant only on the days corporate was visiting. I had experienced it on a couple of occasions when shopping at HD. Now employees are pleasant and helpful at all times. My thought, this is not going to last - not here, not in Marin. Well, well … I have been proven wrong thus, the reason for this letter. You have a group of devoted, hard working and willing to go the extra mile employees. Which in turn have multiplied the good will of the store. One example, of above and beyond customer service, was Munther Hamdon at appliances. After my purchase of washer and dryer, I was not pleased with the delivery company, product, etc., etc. I called HD appliances expecting NO call back. I left a message saying, “I will call back to speak with you ”. Well, he called twice trying to reach me and left me voice messages. He met me at the store, he was personable, efficient and capable of turning my customer experience into a positive one. Furthermore, I want to mention the employees in returns, garden, tile, lights, etc. All have amaze me. It is them who make me stay shopping at HD. Who help with my purchases, who at the end of the day make the cash register go, cha-ching ! cha-ching ! Kudos to them all.

I will never do business with Home Depot again. We purchased flooring. Late Delivery. We hired their installers, big mistake. 1) They missed appointments several times. 2) Mis-informed us as to when the work would be started. 3) Mis-informed when it would be completed. 4) Never returned phone calls, not once after we left multiple messages, we always have to call them back every time. 5) Placed on hold for half hour several times. Robo-disconnected twice on hold. 6) Told would be completed by Friday, show up on Friday, 1/4 of 1 room installed. 7) Promises made would be completed by Monday. Receive phone call on Monday saying work was completed. Show up following Thursday, 8) Work incomplete. One room flooring is not finished, all rooms molding and thresholds not finished, all doors and closet doors removed from frame. no workers on site. 9) No clue with work status at the contracted store. Based on the discussions and promises made by installers and store we have made commitments, people flying from out of town to view the flat and what they get to see is a job site. Absolute worst customer experience with a installer/contractor ever. Home Depots crap work ethic and crap service costs more then any saving you receive from dealing with big box retailer. TL,DR: Do not deal with this organization unless you have time and money to burn.

Okay, so I know there are no sales people to help throughout the store. And it is literally a mouse trap when walking down the cluttered aisles with equiptment, tools and boxes. And yes, if you come in to the store with zero knowlege and ask three separate associates a question, you will get three very different answers. HOWEVER, there is a true gem in the Kitchen design section. His name is Harish and he is absolutely wonderful! Competent, timely, considerate, and actually listens to what we say an applies that to your kitchen design needs. He has been the biggest life and money saver as he wasnt affraid to tell us "no" on something and why it would not work. He presents great solutions to make our space functional and he also saved us a HUGE headache by correcting an error that our pricey architect had made. Truly, the BEST in customer service and satisfaction. In fact, we turn to him for help with ANY of our questions! A true gem. Another plus is the "boys club" in the appliances section-- they always work together to help you get a GREAT deal for the best products that Home Depot has to offer. I always feel like they know what they are talking about and when problems arise, they have good solutions, even ways for us to save MORE money. They really take pride in their appliances! For the rest of the store? GOOD LUCK!

I have to admit that I thought the negative reviews here were probably overreaction to the kind of isolated incidents that tend to happen in big hardware stores. I was wrong. Ive had both good and bad experiences with Home Depots, but this was outrageous. Most of the clerks I dealt with during two frustrating visits to this store in this store appeared to be clueless, uninformed, and uncaring about the merchandise and customer service. It wouldnt take much to fix the situation - management could have orientation sessions where they took all the staff around and discussed all the merchandise enough to at least familiarize them with whats there (even if they dont know much about it), and management could emphasize to the clerks that customer questions are IMPORTANT and must be met with courtesy and at least some feigned interest if nothing more. I was appalled at the misinformation and rudeness I encountered when politely asking very simple questions. I finally left with the intention of never coming back. Did I report my treatment to the manager? No. Why not? Because, to be honest, I had a feeling it would be met with even more indifference if not rudeness, and it just wasnt worth it.

When Home Depot, in its infinite wisdom, closed all Bay Area "Yardbirds" locations, this became the only big-box home improvement option in Marin. While Yardbirds was staffed by folks who know what theyre doing, the Home Depot here seems to employ people with the intelligence of half-cooked cabbages. Ive only ever seen one checkout open (an employee confided to me that "management wants you to use the self-checkout"). Shelves are often understocked and messy, and good luck asking any of their "experts" for help (bonus points for attempting to get any help from the morbidly obese, surly, buffoon in the plumbing section). Ive purchased dimensional lumber from them and had it cut, only to discover that each and every piece varied by up to an inch or more. Ive given up on this place, and shop at Rafael Lumber instead - twice as expensive, but infinitely more helpful. If youre in San Rafael, and need something, head there instead of this place. If moneys an option, head north to Lowes. Just avoid this moron infested pit of suffering at all costs.
