I have never experienced such horrible service at a Barnes & Noble. EVER! Not only is it the DUMBEST setup ever, with the central cash on the top floor, and the music selection on the main floor (if you go there first, you gotta PAY before walk around and pay before you can proceed. All B&Ns are like this, but theyre usually in a nice corner, not front and center. I personally think the music/DVD selection should be on the top floor, and maybe have new releases or the café on the first floor...yknow, where you START!?) Anyway, enough about the lame setup. That I can kinda deal with. But the staff I dealt with were horrible. Cashiers were rude and unhelpful, and seemed rushy, although there was no lineup...and when I walked by, nobody was working the third floor "central" cash...a couple customers werent sure what to do. There was one employee walking around in circles in the music department. Could have asked anybody if they needed anything. But didnt. The café was the WORST. Main cashier was very, VERY slow, barely knew her way around the register. If she was just new, it would be acceptable, but it didnt help that she was paired with a guy who was just as slow. I was third in line, with customers just getting ONE coffee or soda and ONE pastry item, and it took nearly 8 minutes to get through these three small orders. ...felt bad for the lineup behind me...it was starting to grow. Overall, a bad bookstore in a nice, but quite busy mall. An embarrassment to the Barnes & Noble chain. Never have I been stressed or irritated in a Barnes & Noble, ever. I was here once, but will never return. For Barnes & Nobles in the LA area, I prefer the store in Santa Monica. Its three floors too, but at least its set-up properly. And the staff are friendly. And helpful.

Unfortunately I have to complain they were very argumentative when I returned a book here but did not have my receipt I expect as a customer of Barnes n noble and all these places its practically assumed no receipt and perfectly good yet no longer wanted items get store credit and every so often people dare to waste your time probably because they hate their life or job that they cannot help or give store credit. This is like a red flag to me and a personal pet peeve at this point cuz its obviously and intentionally meant to make you feel sort of helpless then you blah blah wanna speak to a manager and blah that you have never had this issue and blah blah normally does etc etc then the person mysteriously figures it out and gives you store credit as I experienced here. The Starbucks people suck here, argumentative and snotty, rude and of course sold me a smore frappe yet they dont have the stuff to make that bev then had an attitude about me wanting a different drink. They refused to make a different drink they demanded to throw away the drink they gave me and do a refund only. It was very annoying one of those things just to test someones patience really...They knew they did not have the ingredients because they admitted it of course after they gave it to me I probably might of ordered something else to so depends who serves you but the service here isnt that great. There is however one of the best seating areas ever provided here otherwise Id give it 1-stars. Thanks.

I went upstairs while i had a cup of coffee with me from Starbucks and a manger person from the coffee shop first shoot me piercing glare as if i was a vampire, and when i asked her "can i help you?" she replied in a condescending tone, "is that a Starbucks coffee that you have?" i replied bewildered "yes." she rolled her eyes and split, to tell balcony people that you need to leave we are closing. Then went behind the bar counter, and give some orders to the barsitas, and in her way out i asked her "I didnt quiet get your remark." and she replied with the same arrogance and unwelcoming tone, "You cannot bring a Starbucks drink here!" i said "this is a Starbucks shop and you have its logo." and she replied "No! This is NOT a Starbucks this is B&N cafe and what you do is look like you take a Starbucks coffee to the Peets." and she left. I did not liked her attitude and the fact that she goes around and harass customers over a cup of coffee. First who cares? Second you have sorry occupation to policing peoples cup of coffee. Third you work for B&N and by default you must be kind to guests and lose those chips on your shoulders. anyhow up to the closing the store while i was asking question about book to another employee she was standing from far and keep on shooting at me the same nasty glare. Very discomforting and unwelcoming.

visited for a steven universe book signing: very least to say, it was extremely disorganized. the event was scheduled as a last-minute wristband-only signing with incorrect times. when we arrived we asked customer service about entering the event and we were cut off mid-sentence with a blunt "no." the organizing staff were incredibly rude to the attendees, myself and the others without wristbands (and even the few with wristbands). they were very pushy and, honestly, seemed like they had no idea what they were doing. everything was sold out before the listed times, perhaps not the fault of the employees, but whomever coordinated the event under the barnes and noble establishment. they had no standby option for those without wristbands and had no one to inform people about the event at the door. - on an unrelated note, my friend was talking to you (she has a faux hawk and was wearing a white shirt and black pants) and we wanted to ask you to hang out with us but we saw you leave by yourself. sorry about the disappointing event, maybe well meet at another su event.

The Barnes and Noble at the Grove has chip readers for credit cards that will only allow passwords with a limited number of characters. If for example you have a security passcode beyond a certain number of characters your card will be declined however most of their employees are not aware of this policy nor do they seem remotely interested in changing a very annoying system. I tried to discuss this with one of the B&N staff today at the Grove and his reply was "Miss I am just a cashier". I guess I am just a customer who will continue to purchase online and only use B&N for browsing. B&N is destined to go the way of Borders.

Its right next to my apartment.I walk by it every day on my way to work.It has coffee and places to sit down always a plus. Its not a chain and its independently owned another plus as you wont feel especially generic and boring whilst you shop here which you should if you walk into any Barnes and Noble anywhere.Their card and postcard selection is unique and wonderful and reason enough for a four star rating. They also have book clubs and readings on a monthly basis plus a handy newsletter email to inform you of both, should you feel inclined to participate. You know what else they have.Books. Really thats all you need to know.

This is one of my favorite Barnes and Noble locations. I love that its in the Grove, which is a fun place to stop around at anyway. This location also is a three story bookstore, which makes it feel a little epic. Compared to other Barnes and Nobles, this one is on the bigger side and carries more selections. Some of the things Ive noticed is that this store has more cookbooks, art books, kids toys, and gifts than other locations Ive been to. I love the atmosphere here and the staff are really great and friendly. I highly recommend this location if you want to browse for a book, chill, or go on a coffee date.
