Horrible experience renting paddle boards. I called the day before we were coming to reserve 5 paddle boards, which they told me they couldnt do but to call about 1 hour before we got there to make sure they had enough inflated. I called when we were 1 hour away as instructed letting them know we were coming for 5 paddle boards and verified that the soft rack came with tie downs to be told that we had to purchase tie downs. When we arrived, we paid and went to the back to load up. The lady that was helping us continually contradicted herself, first saying the narrow boards are somewhat unstable and harder to use then when she realized she didnt have enough of the others blown up those were good for kids. Then when we asked about the soft rack she had us go back to front of store to rent, where I pointed out that they were included per the website. The lady that was helping us wasnt sure how to use the rack so had to read directions then the first lady wanted to make sure we had been charged for the rack, which I reminded her I had just told her it was included per website so she backtracked and said yes she wanted to make sure we werent charged. The soft rack did come with tie downs. She couldnt find the tool for the skag on the hard ones, then when she did find the tool, the screw to one of them was missing so we had to take that off the rack & find another soft one. When we voiced our concern at the store that they only had 1 hard shell they said there should be plenty back there. In the end it took over an hour to load them. They did refund the money for the tie downs I had purchased but they should know what their equipment comes with and how to use it. I verified that the loading up was not part of our time and she said no we could use them until 5pm (which was 4 hours from end of loading up ) or just have them back before they closed at 6 and then went back to around 5pm. All in all, our kids had fun once we were out there but we were disappointed with the customer service as they had plenty of time to prepare for us.

I had an incredible experience rafting thanks to these guys. To be honest, this wasnt my idea and I was scared, even though I had done rafting before in Costa Rica. A big group of friends was going and I said "sure" but for some reason, I was very scared. Our guide was amazing and turned that fear into pure fun! His name is McKinley, and if you go, you should for sure ask to have him as your guide. He was incredibly skilled and made me realize how hard this job is, yet he still had time for chatting with the crew and he was 100% relaxed the entire time, which was really reassuring. Before we started, my husband approached him and told him I couldnt swim very well and was a little scared. He made sure I felt safe and he might have even done a few things differently because of that fact. We never fell into the river and the couple of times the raft got stuck, he got us out quickly and I never felt we were in any sort of danger. If rafting was always this good, I would do it all the time! I am very thankful and much more appreciative of the work these guys do and how skilled you have to be to do this type of work as well as they do it. I recommend it even if you are a little scared or dont know what to expect. Its a great experience and I would do it again in a heartbeat. After you are done, remember to tip your guides well, they do things very few of us could do and their job is seasonal, I wouldnt be surprised if they didnt make very much money, but they love what they do and enable us to have fun in a safe way.

A 4-hour trip ended up being 3-hours, one hour of which consisted of standing around at Sierra South, waiting to get fitted for life jacket, wet suits, etc. The guide/TL seemed very young but fairly competent on the river. This seems like a good safe operation but I am still pretty peeved about paying big $$$ for only about 3/4 of what I was promised. My group was fairly large so maybe that played a part. I may/should shop around next time...

Rafting the Kern on May 27,2017. Our only disappointment was, we were not able to raft the Upper Kern. The forest service closed this section of the river because the river was running to fast and not considered safe. This was not the fault of Sierra South. We did raft and had a good time. We were very happy with the service provided by Sierra South and especially Dillon, our guide. Big shout out to Dillon,

Highly recommend this place. I would say ask for Ben! He was just amazing during the rafting, we got stuck in the tree and he did a great job og getting us out. We did too many spins, took from a route that had a big bump! I would highly recommend this place if you want to do rivers rafting!

It may have been icy cold water but the guides, Joey, Ben and Marti made it super hot and fun! We brought our young kids (ages 12 & 14) and felt super safe tackling the big rapids with the guides helping us in the raft and then advising us when we did the 2 man kayaks. Highly recommend!

We enjoyed great service. Our rafting guide was knowledgeable and entertaining as he skillfully navigated us through some technical rapids on the Kern.Lot of fun and would highly recommend!
