I had a horrible experience here in 2004. I took my Shih Tzu to the Fullerton PetSmart for a basic grooming appointment. When I went to pick him up, his right eye was bloodshot and swollen. The PetSmart employees tried to tell me it was that way when I dropped him off!!! I adamently refused to accept this and then the groomer finally said that he must have caused the injury to his eye "by pulling on the collar when he was getting groomed." I knew this was b.s. (it definitely looked like my poor dog had been hit or smacked) and after talking to the manager they agreed to cover the cost of a vet visit to the PetSmart Banfield clinic in Brea the next morning. The vet there told me that my dog my lose his eye because of the injury and referred me to a specialist at "Eye Care for Animals" in Tustin. In the end, my dog was fine. Eye Care for Animals had a wonderful vet that took good care of him and got the eye healed and swelling down with medication and eyedrops. PetSmart did reimburse me for my expenses but I had to pay nearly $600 up front. The manager at the time also gave me a "free grooming" coupon which I practically laughed in her face at because there is no way I would EVER let anyone at a PetSmart or chain grooming place touch my dog again after that experience.

I had brought my two small dogs in to be groomed. They came out looking ok, although we needed to trim one ourselves afterward because they left some parts too long and didnt do a great job transitioning the cut from a shorter area to a longer, but we didnt mind - I didnt expect the groomers to know exactly what we wanted, especially since it was our first time taking them there. The larger issue I had was with the "Special Handling Fee" charged for each of them. It was only $5 each, no big deal, but they said that we were charged because our dogs were difficult when trimming the ears on one and shaving the face on the other. I dont know many dogs that would stand perfectly still and not react to electric trimmers in their faces/ears and think that the groomers were just trying to increase the service total. I would have more respect for them if they just increased the grooming price by $5, rather than charge me and say its because my dogs were badly behaved. I know my dogs are no angels, but isnt handling dogs during a grooming service a part of the job?

I went there to adopt a kitten that I knew would be there at that certain time because I had looked online. The kitten that I had chosen did not stipulate online that it had to be adopted with its sibling nor did it state that I had to have a cat in my home if it were to be adopted and separated from its sibling. Once I arrived and showed an interest in that specific cat the lady in charge, Mary, decided that I was not going to be allowed to adopt that kitten. She did not care that I had already had a cat for eighteen years, and that it was not living with another cat. Mary was adamant about the fact that all cats should have live with another cat no matter what. To me, this seemed like an awfully pushy salesman tactic. Although, I have a feeling that if had decided to take both she would have found a reason not to let me adopt the kitten. Also, the application that I was required to fill out was very invasive, it wanted to know the name of my landlord and his phone number as well as permission to visit my home when ever they saw fit.

Worst Petsmart ever!! Its dirty & dingy, like they havent swept or mopped in 6+ months. I asked for some help getting crickets, and the lady at the counter said shed be there as soon as she was done with the customer in front of her. I waited by the crickets for nearly 10 minutes, able to fully see her register & "line"...the customer was gone 2 minutes after I spoke to her. As I walked over again, she walked away. So I asked another cashier who had no customer in front of her if I could please get some help with crickets. Her response, a short & rude "Ill get someone". Another 5 minutes before she actually calls someone, meanwhile shes at the register literally picking her nails. Almost 10 minutes later, someone finally Comes over to help me & 2 other customers with the crickets. There were a total of 6 customers in the store, half us waiting for the same thing, & at least 4 employees...shouldnt have been that hard to get a little help.

I rated this location 4 stars about a year ago and now I rate it "2". Ive always taken my Yorkie to get groomed here once a month and recently the grooming staff has been very disappointing. He came back home with a bald spot, fur still poking his eyes and sanitary area still long. It was my mistake not noticing right away but they ask you to pay BEFORE seeing your pet. I gave them another chance 3 months later yet another disappointing visit. It had past 4 hours and they didnt even call me to tell me he was ready! I walked through the store for about 30 mins so that Id be there right when they called, too much time had passed by so I walked in and asked if he was ready yet, my poor pup had been ready the whole time locked in a damn cage and no one had made the call. I am no longer a customer to this location.

I may have to change my allegiences. Ever since one of their groomers went on maternity leave, this Petsmart has done nothing to make up for the temporary loss. I do adore Miss Reena whom my cat Lena loves, too, but ever since she took her time off, cats, it appears, are no longer welcome. This is an affront to all cat lovers. If you think you can only cater to the dogs and turn your backs upon the cats, then you are ignorant of the current demographics in which there are more cats living with humans than dogs.

Every time Ive been there the people are willing to take time to explain things. They do free water testing, and they have a lot of products. The people are nice. The only comments I might offer are that they seem short-staffed, so I have had to wait ~5 mins each time, and that they are very good at upselling (which you may or may not care about). Regardless, I like them and go to them for most fish things.

Great store. I did not like the groomers, though. The room looked gross. Dont go here if your dogs have kennel anxiety; they have stated that it is their policy to put dogs in kennels. I have been to other PetSmart groomers and they have been more understanding, so I guess its just this store. I have never had to buy an "express groom" just so my dog doesnt go in a kennel.
