I want to change brakes. I made some calls to a few shops and the guy from Pep Boys gave a reasonable quote. He said: "I gave you $149 and $20 mail-in-rebates". I thought this is a good deal in comparison with other shops, e.g FixCarNow $220. So I brought the car in. I was served by a front desk man named Mike. He estimated the change might cost $119 which is good, in the same range that I got from the call. I left the car there and went back home. An hour later, a guy from Pep Boys, Michael Alvarez, called me. Here is the conversation Mr. Alvarez: "Ok, the cost of replacing brake pads is $220". Period!!! Me (shocked): "Wait a second, I made a call this morning Pep Boys quoted me with $149 and $20 mail-in-rebate". Mr. Alvarez: "Oh, we always give customer with price from manufacture parts. I give you a cheaper one." He paused for 5 seconds and said "It is $182" Me (shocked again): "No, the quotes I got is $149, and $20 MIR". Mr. Alvarez (raise his voice): "Sir, ok I can give you $149. The cost will be $179, with $30 MIR, you will get $149 in the end. Do you want it?" Me (so sad and fed up): "Ok, fine!" The reason I agree with the price is because I need the car later by the end of the day. However, I am very very disappointed with Pep Boys service. If I did not call ahead I got initial price, how would I know it can be way more cheaper than the $220 that Mr. Alvarez gave me. Why did they quickly change the price when I said I got a better price ahead? How come did they not honor the initial quote? This is a very bad experience. If you have to go to this Pep Boys, arm yourself with information and negotiate the quote aggressively. Be brave and walk away if it sounds like a rip-off.

I would give negative stars if possible. I came to this pep boys location earlier this week for an oil change and a tire rotation. Ever since I left, the front tire on the drivers side has made a grinding wobbly noise. Luckily, I didnt have much driving to do but after driving my boyfriend to work today I didnt feel safe driving my car back home because of the noise it was making. I called Pep Boys to tell them what was happening and the response I got was completely unhelpful. They said to bring it back and theyll take a look. I said that I didnt feel safe driving it and asked if they would send a tow truck for free (I refuse to pay more for a service that was insufficient in the first place) and they told me to call a 1-800 number. The 1-800 number was completely unhelpful because after waiting for 10 minutes, I was still waiting to be connected to a customer service rep. Thankfully, I am a member of AAA. I called them, they sent someone out in under 15 minutes and he was able to fix it. He told me it looked like Pep Boys "hand tightened" the lug nuts and then sent me on my way. Its completely dangerous for a business to be run so recklessly. If my tire had come off it could have caused a terrible accident and I or someone else could have been really hurt. I dont know much about cars. Thats why I depend on garages to do a good job and to be able to trust that they know what theyre doing. I will never again in my life visit another Pep Boys and I will tell this story to anyone considering a Pep Boys visit. Safely attaching a tire should not be so technical that a professional mechanic cant figure it out. What kind of hiring process do they go through? Im enraged about this.

I was charged for the service and the job was never performed. I had taken my car to get an inspection and it failed because the REVERSE light was not working. The inspection company stated that the reverse light was the ONLY reason for not passing. I had noticed that my reverse light would sometimes come on and off at certain times, but all other lights always worked. I took my car to Pep Boys and Javier Gomez inspected it. However, this time the reverse light was working, and they had told me that the reverse light is fine, but the functional brake light is out. I trusted Pep Boys diagnosis (my mistake) and had them perform the job. I took my car back to the inspection company and my car fails the inspection again. The inspection company had let me know that the only reason that my car failed was because of the reverse light and my brake light was working when they inspected it the first time. I actually ended up fixing the reverse light myself, because I knew at this point that Pep Boys is not trustworthy. The only reason I am writing this review is because of what happened next. In less than a month the bulb they "supposedly" replaced went out. As I went to replace this bulb, I noticed that this bulb was very old and just by looking at it, I was able to see that they did not replaced the bulb. Note: I had that bulb replaced about a year and a half ago, and it came with two bulbs. I compared the bulbs and they were identical, except the one that I took out that they stated they had fixed was extremely worn, old, and burnt out. I ended up replacing the bulb myself. This is the experience that I had at 4520 S. Sepulveda Blvd Culver City, CA 90230

I called the Pep Boys store in Culver City (4520 Sepulveda Blvd) to inquire about my car which was towed to that location after it died on a public street at my job. When I called to inform them that my vehicle was to be towed to their location I was put on hold for 10 minutes and only received service only after I called on another line. I then spoke to a man named Miguel who was very dismissive and unprofessional - and whom seemed to be too busy to answer any question about the status of my car or to even get my correct demographic information so that he could look up my account information on the computer. He told me that he would look at the car and that he would call me back. 2 hours later I took the initiative to call the store as I still had not received a call and was once again put on hold by a repair technician. First, I was told that the issue was a problem with my clutch and after I informed the operator that I had a life time warranty and receipt I was put back on hold. When she returned she acted as if she had the wrong name and was unaware of whom she was talking too - even though I gave her a work order number and my phone number when I called. After 5 minutes I was transferred to Miguel who was EXTREMELY rude and dismissive as he would not answer my question as to whether my warranty would apply and or how much the repairs would cost. Please call me back at your soonest convenience because I am not happy with the level of service or the professionalism of the staff. I am a patron and I deserve to be treated with respect and for my concerns to be addressed and acknowledged. Signed, Dissatisfied Customer
