WinCo is an employee owned and operated West Coast grocery store chain, and I expect the Chico chain is similar to many others. You can tell that its employee owned in little ways, such as the electronic cart pushers that help to gather the carts out in the parking lot (all other grocery stories seem to make their employees drag them in by hand). Its definitely a staple for a college town because the prices are dead cheap and its open 24 hours a day, only closed on Christmas and Thanksgiving. Obviously restocking does have to get done at some point, so be aware that at night, forklifts are roaming the aisle and boxes are left in the middle so that its hard to navigate a shopping cart down them. Their bulk section is also a huge star in my book, from candy to nuts and grains to dog treats. They generally have a great selection of items, including gluten-free and organic, and they carry so many different types of tortillas its almost ridiculous (but I love it). My only complaints would have to be that the produce is not as fresh as you might find at higher end stores, and that the milk also tends to go bad faster when compared to Trader Joes or Raleys. I may buy my milk at those other places, but I always go back to WinCo because its easy to see the vast difference in price for the same or similar items.

As a college freshman, I lived in the dorms at Chico State. Because of proximity and the lack of a car, I had to walk to get groceries. I would go to the nearest supermarket, which was Safeway. I had no idea how expensive it was compared to Winco until I got a car. I still live near campus but its worth it to drive to the other side of town to save money on such discounted food. However, as another reviewer wrote, The fresh food is a little picked through. I noticed all the grape bags were open and they looked like people had eaten some of them. All in all, you get what youre paying for.

Winco did a terrible job checking customers out today Sept 7. People backed up from the checkout stand to back of the store and employees walking around looking for empty boxes on shelves. Shop for 25 min and stand in line for 35min. Not going to happen, I returned the frozen goods and walked out. You need to do better.

I will be buying much less from Winco from now on, probably only canned goods. I will not be buying anything from their bakery ever again. I bought some lemon muffins this week only to find a very small grey worm in one of them. Disgusting! :( I will be passing this information on to my family and friends.

Betty nice large grocery store. WinCo keeps prices low and quality high. Plenty of choices to buy in bulk and some really good generic options for many packaged items. Unfortunately, some of the things that bring down the price also cause some minor convenience issues, like not accepting credit cards.

Make a shopping list beforehand and shop early in the morning. The store has everything you need or want and friendly employees to direct you to what you dont find easily. Signage for each main shelf aisle is in the center, but may be a little hard to read from the ends of the aisles.

The prices are great and the employees are helpful, probably because it is employee owned, unlike Scabmart ( Wallys Mart) which doesnt even pay enough money to encourage the undocumented immigrant to want to work, never mind any American with a brain.

We love Winco and it is nice to find one when traveling to different cities. It was my first trip to CA since I moved to the US, so I did not know of course there would be no bags. Ah well, I did not have to carry much.

Always a great selection for a lower price. Dont look for an Organics aisle though. WinCo is Open to everyone and they keep their costs down for us college students. I love their hot deli. Beer selection is decent.

Good supermarket aimed at the budget shopper. Decent alcohol selection. Personally, wouldnt shop for produce or meat here if looking for high quality or fresh stuff. Overall, would go back, mainly for buying in bulk.

I love this store....has everything you are looking for.....staff personnel very helpful and nice... bring your bags otherwise bags are $.10/ea. FYI they do not accept credit cards cash or debit only.

Must check literally every individual piece of produce for premature rot and mold. Have seen two different employees pick up floored produce and put it right back into the pile.

If youre looking for food at great prices, WinCo is the best place to go. The only downside is that you have to use cash or debit here, you cant use a credit card here.

I just bought groceries yesterday. Today I opened a packet of burritos i purchased and they had mold! So disgusting seriously
