4 stars solely because after a specific time of day, (9:00PM maybe?) they bar one set of doors for the entire half of the store. This is seriously irritating, considering many handicapped parking spots are on the opposite side of the store, and these people also move through the doors extremely slowly, creating a bottleneck in the flow of traffic and resulting in lines of angry shoppers piling up behind them, and possibly even creating a small fire hazard. We all know that they do it to prevent theft, but they already have cameras right at the exits staring you in the face as you leave, as well as a security guard, so please just let the rest of us, the huge majority that are law abiding citizens, utilize the doors that you have RIGHT THERE, its likely to attract enough returning customers to more than make up for the occasional shoplifter. I really doubt that by shutting one set of doors, any potential thief has said "Whoa, too much work for me to walk to the other side of the store with this stolen bottle of vodka, Ill just pay for it after all." I cant see a situation that blocking one pair of doors is going to stop someone from proceeding with their plan to steal.

I try to avoid this specific Safeway. It seems as though the Safeway Corp couldnt give a dang. Always a long wait in line. I went here specifically to get cash back with my purchase. The cashier could only give $20 and I needed more than this. I wouldve used the self check and got cash back, however after 8 am and no self checkstands were open yet. Ill stay clear of this one from now on. Workers are very nice however.

My favorite Safeway in town. Always surprisingly clean considering all of the transients that go through trashing it. I have tons of respect for these employees and how they handle some of the people who give them a hard time there. Dave the wine man is the best and will always give you amazing recommendations! Overnight crew can be unpleasant and hard to find at times. Clean public bathrooms!

Been going here for over 25 years, great staff and the store is always clean. Slight slipping hazard outside the store when it rains. This is due to the white markings painted on the street that get slick when wet. Other than that this place has been good to me. I get a soup and sandwich at least once a week and they have great deals and make a mean sandwich.

This safeway location shines head and shoulders above the rest. It can be busy and crowded but thats probably because its popular for shoppers. The produce department gets lots of attention unlike some stores. Fresh quality food and competative to awsome on pricing. Friendly, courteous and helpful staff. One of My choice grocery stores in Chico.

Well they were stocking the shelves but not with their own employees but with outside people so a little all over the place and then had employees seeming to follow me because I took too long to pick out my items while looking for the best price! How rood! Next time I will give them my list and they can get the items to me at check out!

This Safeway has fewer deli items than others that I am accustomed to. In addition, the staff was not nearly as friendly. This was disappointing as I have been a long time Safeway customer and was accustomed to much friendlier with more options of fresh appearing deli salads... perhaps it is because this is a more depressed area.

Very poor service, had an assistant manager say I couldnt buy 2 gift cards because the system tracked what I bought. Asked to speak to the manager, they said they didnt know and gave me a number to call. The number was the internal number for Safeway to report employee accidents. Needless to say I wont be returning.

Store is nuthn special. Their meat dept is a JOKE. They closed at 7p and I asked for a special cut at 530 and I was denied not once, but TWICE! Y u ask? Bcuz they were n the middle of cleaning up yet they told me NO after they still had another 90+ mins b4 they closed. Bunch of Block Buster Rhymes if u ask me!

Was better before the buyout but still one of the best stores in town, use the app to add coupons before shopping and you can do just as well or better than wiinco but nicer store. They have been doing much better with moving the panhandling out but they still hang out and can get very aggressive.

Favorite location in chico, they always have great organic options and they even have a small bulk food section of dry goods too. Usually has pretty good deals on the stuff you need and also for the midnight snacks.

Been shopping here for years and its likely the most accessible and cleanest Safeway on the West side of town. The produce is great and the staff here are very friendly. Other than that, its your standard Safeway.

My favorite grocery store in Chico! The store is huge, as a great selection, employees are always friendly and helpful. Id much rather drive the distance to the Mangrove store than the other Safeway on Walnut.
