Absolutely inept, unprofessional and unfriendly staff. I could overlook the lack of people skills if they were actually helpful. I enrolled and filled out my FAFSA. Received a letter from BCC stating that I needed to complete a form but didnt specify which one. I called for a week straight and left a dozen messages and no one ever called me back. I even called UC Berkeley and Stanford and was able to get through to someone immediately, just to prove a point. So, if those top universities can give their potential students the time of day, why is it that this COMMUNITY college cant? Ill never know, because Im already enrolled at City College of San Francisco. Since I sent my application, the staff at CCSF has gone above and beyond the standard, and thats a relief considering I live in Las Vegas and wont be living in SF until January. Of course there are plenty of students who currently attend BCC whove had no issues. But this review is based solely on my personal experience, and it has been a horrible one. My advice to potential students, seek your education else where. Go to CCSF. You wont be disappointed.

Counseling services is horrible. I was waiting in the line for a couple of hours, since I had very important questions, but the front desk "mistakenly" removed my name from the list, and I had to enter my name again, and go back to the end of the line. When I asked her(the woman in the front desk), she was rude, and she made it obvious that she doesnt care about my issue, and she didnt apologize for her mistake. After waiting for a COUPLE OF HOURS, I got so frustrated and left the line, and never returned to counseling office again, however it was my first semester there, and I had lots of questions... Its a small school, with no food services. There are two "filthy", old microwaves, and one of them doesnt work. Theres only ONE Physics professor in the Science Department, and hes decent. He was very helpful. Even though hes always busy, hell do his best to help you. Francisco was the best part of my experience.

Teachers are hit or miss. My son has a great English teacher this semester . He had a godawful career explorations teacher who told the class she didnt like people under 18! Her instructions for assignments were incomprehensible even to me (I have a masters degree ). The disability office did almost nothing to ensure my sons success other than agree to meet with him and show him where the tutoring center was. The financial aid staff were basically unhelpful and/or incompetent on numerous occasions . As well, some were totally unprofessional, maintaining a personal conversation with each other while I and others waited in line for their unexpert help. My son cant wait to get out of there . Hes been dealing with two other community colleges and each encounter magnifies how inept and uncaring BCC staff are.

Teachers are ok, but the administration is horrible! Do not expect to receive any help with anything ever. As far as they are concerned, they are only there to put in their hours, and get a paycheck. Whats that? you need financial aid? Sorry cant help you here. Whats that? Cant figure out what classes you need to take to transfer out? Sorry, cant help you here. Do not ask Loretta Newsom for help. She will snap at you and make you feel stupid for coming to her for help. Do not go to student records. They will send you to financial aid. And then Financial aid will send you to student records. And then they still wont help you. You will have spent an hour in line just to get moved to another line, and then back again.

Modern clean college, with all your main classes contained within 1 Building. Theres stairs if you like stairs, and elevators if you need/want them! I find the stairs going up and down are rather nice, they arent too step or too many. My only complaint is with the Deathly Quiet Library. That places is seriously creepy with how quiet it is. I feel like if you dropped a pin on a desk, you could hear it throughout the entire place. The quiet feels oppressive, like when you hear about those sound proof rooms where you can heart your heart beat. Although obviously not that bad. Still if you dont care about studying in their library I would highly reccomend it. PLUS its REALLY close to both BART & BUS!! ^_^

Some teachers dont really care about you, and some do. Administration staff is okay. When I was getting enrolled I remember what they did to me, they changed my status to international student, then they told me I have to pay them $5000 for my classes since Im an international student. And I told them that Im not an international student can you please change my status and then they told me to wait which I couldnt because that was the last date for the semester to be enrolled in it.To get out of that situation I had to bring my lawyer and then she threaten them that if they dont change my status and dont get me enrolled for this semester, shell sue them. I would say its an Okay school.

My experience is much the same as the only other one star review so far. The staff were not helpful, and I had to go a semester without financial aid due to their lack of effort. I went in again and again but could not receive proper assistance. Furthermore, many of the professors I have had had have been of poor quality. The PoliSci and English classes I took had professors who spent more time pushing their own political beliefs than teaching us English or Polisci, and the Psychology professor was horribly inefficient. Everything she taught in any of her hour and a half lectures could have been taught in twenty minutes if done efficiently. Overall, not a quality school.

I got my Associated degree while working full-time and going to school full-time in the PACE program. I wont say it was easy but I will tell you that the Professors and Staff at Berkeley City College (then Vista Community College) gave me their full attention, assistance, and support from the beginning of the program all the way through to graduation. I was the first person in my family to get a degree. I am proud, my family was proud, and the professors and staff were proud. I couldnt have had a better introduction to my college pathway!

This is my 2nd half of my 1st year at BCC. from what I got is professors are decent I only have had only one good one my current professor for math is very hard to understand plus not to mention in the class there is but one student who tries to act like she is the professor and can not listen to what my professors explaination. Clubs are decent I myself am only part of one so far but not a lot of people show up on club meet up days about 30% of them show but not the full 100. So far the school is okay.

Not your typical community college. BCC is in the heart of downtown Berkeley and conveniently located a few steps from BART. BCC is part of Peralta College but is a small school - only one building with 5 floors! The teachers here are great and from my experience there are about 45 students per class max. My favorite part about the BCC campus other than its location is that it has an Elkay water fountain (refills your reusable water bottle).
