The first time I went to this store I absolutely loved it. I thought they had a great little variety of books and gifts. However, when I was there the first time, there was a rude woman who checked me up. I was less than pleased with the customer service, but I was willing to give it a second chance. The second time, I came in with two huge laundry baskets filled to the brim with books. When I walked in, a snarky teenager greeted me by snapping her pink bubblegum and rolling her eyes. After waiting for thirty minutes, I came back to the counter and she told me she could only take 4 of the dozens upon dozens of books that I had. I thought they would at least offer me 50 cents for the books and put it in the discount section for a dollar, making a bit of money off of it. After I loaded the two crates onto a dolly, she made me mosey out the door by myself without even offering any help. When I reached the door, the dolly tipped over and the books scattered all over the place. She saw me from the counter, chuckled, and walked the other way. I was furious. I had to pick all the books up by myself while the dolly crashed over and people were trying to step around me to get out the door. Overall, I am extremely disappointed. Horrible service. Bad manners. Great set-up. I would consider shopping there again if all the gum-popping teenagers were fired.

This is the kind of bookstore I wish there were more of. Well-lit with a nice selection (though like most independent bookstores could use a lot more diversity in regards to authors. Especially in the science fiction and fantasy genres. Octavia Butler is so NOT the only Black author out there, lol). Still, it was so much fun to wander the shelves and look for interesting gems that I might have missed. Add to that the whimsical decor and unique gift/bath items and this store is a total win. In fact, I prefer this location to the one with the bar. The staff are super friendly and helpful with suggestions. Plus, they have a cool program for teen readers that allows them to read and review ARCs of upcoming novels. Thats so cool.

I always enjoy taking a trip to Changing Hands Bookstore. They have a wonderful selection of books, new and used. A ton of gift ideas which I love browsing thru even when I am not looking for a gift for someone. When I want something unique, and thoughtful to give as a present, Changing Hands always comes to mind. They also have a wonderful reward program. For every $10 you spend (before taxes) you receive a stamp, after 10 stamps you get a $10 reward. Changing hands also gives you a $10 credit during your B.D. month!!

It is the most amazing bookstore! You can get the book you want in used or new and they are right there in the same place! They have beautiful gifts and a great selection of calendars and magazines. The service is great. And you can meet someone for lunch there with the Wildflower Cafe being connected. I also like that they feature local authors as well as people not so known. I could spend hours there...and do!

I want to retract what i said about Changing Hands. Clearly they have some less than stellar employees but when I brought it to their attention, they immediately fixed their mistakes and left me with a warm fuzzy feeling. It is amazing how the actions of one employee can bring down a whole corporation, and the actions of one excellent general manager can build it back up again.

Ive bought many books here for a bit more than I could other places because of the experience. The staff is always willing to help find obscure books or topics, mull over ideas or just make sure youre genuinely enjoying yourself. They always have fun writers come to talk and sign books. Ive killed many hours in here looking for nothing and losing myself in everything.

This store is really cool. Just dropped $260.00 here yesterday and am going back today to spend the $20.00 worth of punch cards I got from yesterdays buy. Way cool stuff. I started off going there for books, but now am hooked on their trinkets section near the entrance on the right as soon as one walks in. Blessings all *~*

I love a good big city bookstore (The Strand, Powells, etc.) with both new and used books. This is a smaller scale store with a great selection for my mostly non-fiction needs. The staff is great, and lots of good books! If Im ever in the area again, I will definitely stop in again.

Id heard good things about Changing Hands bookstore and finally managed to get in for a book signing. This place was everything I had heard and more. What a lovely place to pick up a book, or unique gift item and then stop over for soup, sandwich or dessert. I will be back soon.

Such a great bookstore! I favor the one in Central Phoenix a bit more but this one is still awesome and has its own unique aspects. Very nice selection of new and used books as well as lots of other things too. They seem to have some pretty great guest speakers here as well.

I love the selection, the fact that I get to share books w/other local book lovers, the professional/courteous staff, the beautifully appointed store & the reasonable prices on my fave accessory, a great book! Shop local Tempe, Changing Hands is where its happening!

The selection is excellent, the prices are great, I love the discount program where for every ten dollars you spend, you get a stamp, and in ten stamps, you get ten dollars off your purchase! So on top of the already-low prices, you get ten percent back!

One of the life-changing bookstores where I bought critical spirtual and personal growth books in my youthful exploration days....Changing Hands, thank you for having the wisdom books available when I needed them. A top bookstore by any standard.

This is the best bookstore in the universe. They bring in the most incredible speakers. Through the years, Ive seen so many people hosted by Changing Hands such as Richard Bach, Elizabeth Gilbert, and Garrison Keiller.

Its not just a bookstore, its a community, a resource-center, and a place where friendships grow over many hours studying or browsing the shelves for books and knickknacks. I love this amusement park for the soul.

Ive had nothing but great experiences here. Anytime we need a book for a family, or working with the owner in the past for exciting opportunities or charitable causes. Changing hands is great.

Great selection! Fair prices! The type of employees who know how to figure out what you are looking for from a few words remembered and a general idea of when it was published. :)

We just spent another great afternoon at our favorite bookstore. We traded some old books, bought some great new ones, our daughter had a blast at the kids book club.

The best bookstore in the valley that I have found. Amazing selection for a local company with knowledgeable staff. They are also active with book singings etc.

Love it! Im going to say that many times Ive walked in and been greeted by an employee or two! Ill be happy to compare it to The Cheers bar from the era of the 80s!
