To me this is one of the best bookstores in the state. There are very few that rival its size and selection. When you first enter you think, "Oh, just a small bookstore," but then as you start to explore you realize how much more it is. There are three floors with each one having a half dozen rooms with thousands of books in each of them all perfectly organized and neatly displayed for easy finding. One of my favorite features of this particular store is how each of the areas of the store have different feels to them. The main lobby is a hustle and bustle New York City type of feeling with floor to ceiling best sellers, and new releases with heavy foot traffic from the front door and island of registers. Then moving to the kids area it calms into a playroom feeling with stuffed animals, toys and bright colors. As you descend into the levels below the sounds all quiet and the creaks of the hardwood add to an ambiance of an old world antique store. With several places to sit down and read, and devices about for accessories and searching. With each section clearly labeled and organized in a manner of thought, this easily takes my vote as one of the best bookstores. I highly recommend you go here first to find anything on anything by anyone. Staff is great and knowledgeable and its friendship with local authors like myself, is very appreciative.

I used to love Boulder Bookstore, but it is getting pretty frustrating to shop here. Between the loud customers and crowded conditions, it is hard to browse much of anything. Additionally, weve gone there (as our main destination, not just shopping Pearl Street) three times lately and have been denied entry every time because of an event. On the most recent visit, there were only half a dozen people at the event which blocked access to the entire upstairs! I had a $40 art book that I needed to purchase as well as three or four $12 novels, but could not even enter the room to get them. Meanwhile, it looked as though BBS had collected about $25 in ticket fees to their event. This probably does not bode well in the long term. Management did not seem interested in our feedback as longtime customers or empathise with our frustration, so we took our business elsewhere. So much for shopping locally.

The Boulder Book Shop is a small, yet cozy and warm store on a cold Boulder day. With a large inventory of books on multiple levels of the library, theres every genre here with plenty of books to sift through. Chairs and couches cam be found all around the floor, allowing customers to read through potential purchases. The shop is silent except for the soothing, relaxing music playing quietly around the store. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable of the inventory. All in all, the Boulder Book Shop is my favorite book Shop and a home away from home.

I saw this store on Pearl and decided to go in to check it out. On my way out of exiting the store(without purchasing anything ) the alarm goes off as Im walking out and I turn around, the woman at the desk asks to check my bag although I most certainly didnt steal anything. I was very offended didnt feel like that was professional or appropriate. Instead of accusing an innocent person shoplifting maybe you should get store surveillance or more people on the floor to monitor costumers. I feel victimized and I feel like that was a very unprofessional.

Spend an evening, or two or three soaking up the warm and eclectic atmosphere of this literary zone. You will find books here that you cant track down anywhere else, and there are lots of great nooks and crannies to peruse them. The staff goes out of their way to help you, if you cant find what you are looking for. Thank you Kevin McCarthy for helping me find the book I had in mind, even though I didnt know the author or exact title! And dont miss the unique speakers and authors who come here to share their latest projects.

Excellent selection and friendly staff. A great place to find works by local authors. Always clean, well kept and well organized. Besides being helpful and friendly staff are also well-informed and provide good recommendations. Great kids section. Street cred has slightly faded due to lack of pretentiousness in sales people. A dash of condescension could go a long way towards getting their propers in the book-slanging community of Boulder, which we all know goes hard.

Loved this place! The atmosphere and the structure itself lend an uplifting hand to the browsing experience. The selection is good, the prices are reasonable, and whilst the you-know-who chain uses florescent lights and perfect ninety-degree angles to bleach a bit of the joy out of your brick-and-mortar experience, the Boulder Book Store has shadows and nooks and crannies and oddly shaped spaces that make wandering about a delight.

Dont sell your books here! They make you sign a paper saying youll sell them your books after they give you a price for them; you cant opt out. What they dont tell you is that theyre only giving you on average $2 PER BOOK. I brought in some books in great condition, most of them cost me over $20 new. They gave me $32 for 16 books. I feel scammed.

A well set-up bookstore, however parking was odd. It seemed that street parking was fare-based but the deck was not. Either way, it took much longer than it should have to park to go to this one shop. I purchased a clearance book for $4. Overall, prices seemed a little high on some of the other discounted books, but a clean operation otherwise.

Wonderful bookstore. Their selection is to die for!! They have both new and used books on every topic imaginable! The only problem I sometimes have is that it can be a little hard to find an employee if youre looking for something in particular, but everything is organized and it is so fun to browse. A must visit for anyone in the Boulder area!

Nothing beats a locally owned bookstore. I could spend hours in this place, Ive only not found the book I was looking for once and when I asked the staff about it, they confirmed they did not have the title in stock but would be happy to order it for me. They even recommended something else by another author that they thought I might like.

I know books are books and you can get them cheaper at Amazon or Borders, but you are selling your intellect short if you do not do business with Boulder Book Store. I always find something interesting and worthy of my time in this place. They sell the best-not the best seller list. A bit cramped. Their downstairs fiction area needs a revamp.

Had a great experience with Boulder Book Store on the Pearl Street Mall. Super nice, friendly staff. Both in person and over the phone when reserving spots for the book signing. A great selection of books, a cozy place to be. The book signing atmosphere was perfect - intimate but not cramped. Love this place.

My wife loves book stores, so she made a beeline here when she saw it. It was impressively large also. They had a great flow to the store and terrific organization. There are multiple levels, so take your time. One thing my wife especially loves was the fact that they had a Recently Used book section.
