I moved to FH about a year ago and am a multi weekly shopper at this Safeway. Nice store, friendly folks, clean. Wonderful Pharmacy staff. One sticking point for me however is checkout. Only 2 stars for that specifically. Without exaggeratingthe time required to checkout is more than excessive by any stretch. I find myself more often steering towards Basha’s just down the street because I seldom have to wait at checkout. I hesitated to review because I was a cashier for 11 years and believe me I understand. But in this case, because I shop frequently and only a few items with each visit understandably I appreciate the express lane. Express to me means get in get out. In most instances this is not my experience. Keep the process simple to keep it fast and meet the customers expectation of the meaning of express. Today I waited for more than 10 minutes. I almost left my items and went down the street. The checkout person was gracious and courteous of course but from a management level they really need to rethink the role of express checker specifically and how to define that role. I would keep the conversation to a professional level in this lane and also not advertise or solicit for any special programs etc. Today for example a request to round up the amount to donate the difference to a special need. An error was made during the round up, it led to customer confusion, reversal, another correct and so forth. I stood waiting in disbelief and in fact the customer at the checkout apologized for the circumstance, though they were not at fault, it was rather the checkout process itself. My other question is why are there no self-checkouts? I hope this is a conversation starter with the management team at Safeway.

Staff are EXTREMELY friendly and helpful! Sad to see the merger with Alberstons as we have been long term fans of many Safeway private label products that are now gone. The reset is always tough no matter who or why it happens, so wont mention it other than it just happened post-merger. Pricing has gone through the roof on many products. Safeway almost always had the lowest price in town for beer, now it has the highest prices. We went from 99% of our shopping here to ~25% purely due to the private label products going away and the drastic increase in pricing under the new ownership. Giving 4 stars to this previously 5 star location PURELY on the very nice employees and local management.

There is room for improvement here. There seems to be a single register working, with a lengthy line most of the time I need to stop in for something. More than once I have made it home to realize my newly purchased goods have expired previously, or close to it. I will be taking my business elsewhere until this gets better.

No self check. Long lines. Waited over 10 minutes in line. I called the store to ask them to open more lanes and was on hold over 5 minutes. I counted 8 other employees walk past and no new checkouts opened and the lines didnt get shorter. I do not recommend unless you go before 8 am when the store is almost empty

Used to be better. We relocated to Scottsdale about 10 minutes away. Service can be slow with lack of personnel. Doesnt carry 3 items that I get at other Safeway stores, and 2 items out of stock , didnt know when they would get them in. Actually for the weekly sale but never got them in.

Selection is a little lacking. When I stopped in they didnt have mint or pomegranates among other things, and they also dont have a big spice selection. Had to go to Frys as well to get all the items on my list.

A highly organized supermarket with a vast assortment of raw and ready made foods along with aisles of packaged goods. Seafood, meats, veggies etc all displayed beautifully making everything easy to find.

Customer service is horrible.....i stood at the bakery counter for over 5 mins. With a lady behind the counter who totally ignored me. Dont go to the service desk, theyll ignore you there too.

Nicest groceey store in Fountain Hills...tragically understaffed. There are usually 3 checkout counters open, sometimes 2, late at night only 1. Expect a 10 minute checkout wait.
