Wonderful independent fabric store geared to garment sewers. Gayfeather Fabrics stocks fabric you wont find at the big chains: Liberty of London cottons, organic cottons, good mens suitings and shirtings, real Malden Mills polar fleece, beautiful knits and silks, Japanese denim, oil cloth as examples. The store also has great buttons and trims. They also carry patterns from independent pattern companies. It is a small space but so much is packed in there! As far as the staff--Im a regular customer, but I have always found them to be knowledgeable and friendly. -As someone else said, not overbearing --but always helpful. If you love fabric you will love this store.

Small store but has nice selections for the size, friendly and knowledgeable staff. They leave you alone to shop rather than overwhelm you with "sales talk" so dont decide they are unfriendly until you ask for help. They are not ignoring you but giving you privacy for your browsing, letting you take your time. Once I asked for help I was surprised how helpful they were and super knowledgeable about a huge range of fabric-crafty subjects. Great neighborhood store for crafty Madisonians.

The first time I went in there, the woman was pretty helpful after she "warmed up" to me. At first she was kind of gave me the feeling as if I didnt belong there. The second time I went in there were two women who were working there. The one who spoke more definitely made me aware they didnt have what I was looking for and was not helpful.
