I brought my computer here after the fan in the power supply stopped working. I know a little about computers but I prefer to have professionals do the work for me in mine, but all I can say is that I am glad I knew a few things or I might have been really screwed! First of all, I dropped it off and after a day of testing I called them back and they told me that the problem was the hard drive. They told me they could replace that and gave me the price estimate. I had to remind them that I had actually brought it in because the power supply fan wasnt working - which should have been totally obvious, besides the fact I had told them when I dropped it off it wasnt working, its a BIG FAN that wasnt moving. They told me theyd get back to me. So I call them the next day. They tell me they have a new hard drive for me that is 30 GB that they will install and a new power supply. After telling me only this, I had to ask them questions about the new hard drive, like how many RPM it had, what the brand was, etc. If I hadnt known enough to ask those questions, I assume they would have told me nothing about the new hardware they were putting in my comp other than how many gigabytes it had! They also asked my what new operating system I wanted on it, and I told them "Anything but Vista please" When I got my computer back however, Vista had been installed and the hard drive they put in was NOT the one they had described to me on the phone. I called them and complained, and they told me they would fix it, but it would take another day. At this point I was so annoyed I just told them to forget it. If you are thinking about taking your PC here... I hope you learn from my mistake!!

Our 6 year old computer has been running slower and slower. This shop has been there for years--youd think their repair service would be OK. My husband took it in to see if they could add more RAM. They said that wouldnt help. Instead, they said they would clean out unwanted, unused files, and the computer would run like new. When we got the computer back, it wouldnt boot up. Took it back in and they reconnected a wire theyd left loose...took it back home, booted up and discovered that they had deleted all our software! Started reloading software and got messages saying that it was incompatible with the computers version of Windows. Turns out theyd installed Service Pack 3, which was something they hadnt even mentioned the possibility of doing. When we called them, they tried to say they had told us they were going to wipe everything out. They were not interested in helping us resolve the issue, just tried to argue that we came in asking them to trash our computer. My husband uninstalled Service Pack 3, and Ive spent hours reloading software and manually entering lost data. In addition to losing money, time and data, weve endured more aggravation than anyone should ever experience at the hands of a merchant. One star is too good for these folks.

I have had a personal and professional relationship with A1 Computers since 2000. I have been in the store when folks like the ones who wrote the "Incompetence matched only by arrogance!" review were there when they dropped off their PC or laptop and when they came back to pick it up. Despite spending significant time to explain what needed to be done and the consequences of a total reload if necessary - Rob and his staff spend an inordinate amount of time accepting abuse and explaining the reasons how the repair was accomplished and why it was done. Throughout these often vitriolic sessions Rob and Tyler are courteous and patient. My advice to customers of A1 Computers is: Listen to what is recommended; Ask all the questions up front - there are no dumb questions; Ask for a backup of files before work is started (better yet do it yourself prior to taking your computer in for repair); Allow sufficient time to get the work done; and, dont press or complain if extra time is needed - its only to your benefit if the technician isnt hurried. I have found the prices to be reasonable, the staff informed, courteous and helpful, and all work done well. One of the better computer stores I have experienced.

Dont do it! Dont set foot in this store!! You will regret it! The only good thing I can say about this place is that Rob is a friendly guy. Thats it. Service is horrible. Rob seems to be doing everything. Two other guys work there but I dont really know what they do....the one just seems to be standing around behind the counter or outside smoking. The other one looks no older than 15 and also just stands around playing on his Blackberry. Meanwhile, Rob is behind the desk waiting on customers, answering phone calls, and keeps telling everyone the same thing - "Call back in an hour," Come back tomorrow," etc. Then you call back or come in and its still not ready. I made about a dozen phone calls to this place and never ONCE did they ever call me to give me updates on my computer. Two of those calls I got cut off, and another time I was on hold for 12 MINUTES before I finally gave up. Memo to Rob: One person cant do it all. Youre biting off more than you can chew! So people - do yourself a favor and avoid this place unless you enjoy getting the run-around.

"incompetence matched only by arrogance!" Id say that statement might more realistically be directed at yourselves. Ive shopped at A-1 computers for YEARS. If you arent technically savvy enough to know what can or cannot be done with a computer which is SIX years old at the time of your review... You shouldnt be using a computer. Do you try to use the CD tray as a cup holder too??? Service pack 3 is standard now from Microsoft for being on the net, installing it on a system after an install/update from MS is also STANDARD. Your 6 year old computer is probably DYING or you are using an OS which is stretching it to its limits along its with updates. I notice you dont even specify WHICH Microsoft operating system youve got on it. A-1 computers is an EXCELLENT operation and the owner, Rob, is ALWAYS willing to work with someone whos reasonable. (Or can be educated to see reason.) End of story. NO BULL****!

Took another computer there and as in the past they were SPOT ON! Very reasonable prices and easy to work with. Again they did what the Big Box stores claimed could not be done. I work from home where I rely very heavily on IT components. They recognize this and react accordingly. I will go back there next time I need IT work done. They were able to achieve what the BIG BOX stores said was impossible. I needed XP pro to work on a computer that stopped working. You get to talk to the owner @ the store and he Genuinely cares and has the correct skill set to make what others in the business described as impossible. They BIG BOX stores only wanted to sell me a new Computer. These guys fixed my old one Im a real customer...
