I had never heard of Midtown Jewelers until I was in the market for an engagement ring about a year ago. Foregoing the tradition of picking out a ring on my own and getting it wrong, my fiance helped by looking at settings online that she liked. Midtown Jewelers is somewhat unique in that it carries numerous lines of jewelry from "name brands" in the industry (e.g. Tycoon, Gabriel & Company) that are only sold through select retailers around the country. First time visiting Midtowns location in the heart of Reston Town Center I was impressed with cozy yet elegant feel of the shop and the no pressure sales approach Bobby and his team, particularly, Stephanie, took. Long story short, Bobby and his team came through time and time again with great customer service and getting me setup with the perfect engagement ring. And to be clear, while some shops might not let you buy your diamond separately and bring it for setting in the engagement setting, Bobby helped me out no questions asked making the ring of my fiances dreams feasible for me! A few examples of the excellent service at Midtown - shortly after getting engaged my fiance noticed the ring wasnt fitting right and was missing a small pave diamond from the bottom of the band - within two weeks (and it only took that long because the setting had to be sent back to the manufacturer) the ring was back in our hands free of charge to us with no questions asked - now that is service. But even more impressive, when he returned the ring to us, I kid you not, because of our schedule being the way it was, Bobby (yes the store owner/manager) actually delivered the ring to our home personally so my fiance could wear it to an event we were going to. That level of service that is unheard of these days, especially from a jewelry store where more often than not youre lucky to even get the time of day if you dont look "serious". Not to mention this is not some chain owned by a corporate parent, this is a small owner owned shop that understands customer service is key. Plus youre supporting youre local economy when you shop here. Beyond engagement rings, Midtown is certified Pandora reseller (which my fiance loves), and carries an assortment of other fine jewelry and watches. If youre in the market for jewelry, definitely look at Midtown or inquire via e-mail - Bobby or one of his team will respond quickly. There is definitely a reason this shop has such high reviews and has won many accolades over the years. If youre thinking of going to one of the big box stores (Kay, Jared), drop by Midtown, you might be pleasantly surprised!

I recently got engaged, and I wanted to get my ring appraised for insurance purposes. After having lunch at Clydes in the Reston Town Center (wonderful service), my fiance and I decided to check out Midtown Jewelers, as it said on their website that they do appraisals. When we walked in, the man working there (I think he is the manager) was disinterested at best. He said that the appraiser is only in the shop on Wednesdays until 4pm. Because I am a teacher, it is hard for me to take time off during the week, but I made an appointment anyway and submitted my leave time. Unfortunately, on the day of my appointment, the store closed because of snow. I received a phone call at 11 that morning to reschedule my appointment; the woman said that the appraiser would be in on Friday. I asked her if I could have a later time, and she gave me 4pm - reassuring me that she would call if that time proved problematic. Fast forward to Friday - I have received no call that 4pm has proven inconvenient, so I leave work early and drive 30 minutes to Reston. Upon arrival, I tell the sweet woman behind the desk that I have a 4pm appointment for an appraisal. She looks confused and checks her appointment system - yes, she says, I am on the list. Unfortunately, the appraiser has already left for the day (!!??), but suggests that she might be able to call him and see if he can come back for my appointment. At this point, I am completely confused - why would the schedule me (and not call to change the appointment) if the time did not work? And additionally - why would the appraiser leave without looking at his appointment calendar?!? The man who I assume is the manager comes over to the counter and automatically shuts down the offer to call the appraiser - "he wont want to set up all of his tools again." Then he says to me, "The best thing I can do is offer you a free appraisal on another date." He doesnt seem to see a problem with the fact that I HAD AN APPOINTMENT that I was attending - that his staff messed up! I tell him no, that "I have tried to schedule this appraisal twice - there is no way that I am requesting more time off for an appointment that may or may not happen." He didnt seem to care or feel bad. As a future bride, my fiance and I have a number of jewelery-related purchases to make - and I can assure you, they will not be made at Midtown Jewelers.

So much better than the soulless chain jewelry/diamond stores blotting the buying landscape out there, Midtown really works to make sure that your experience is perfect. From the time you wander into the store to well after youve paid for and received your item theyll make you feel like youve known them forever, as they really work to hook you as a long-term customer. If you have any apprehensions about shopping for engagement rings, go visit them. Itll be as painless as possible; in fact, they managed to make it both understandable and enjoyable for me, and I know as much about diamonds and jewelry as I do the circuitry on 1980s Soyuz rockets. I was as nervous as any man getting ready to propose to someone, but everything went very well - I proposed this past weekend, and thankfully she said yes. :) It took me a while to pull the trigger, and the nerves were definitely a little frazzled, but once I finally got started everything fell into place. Probably the best, most succinct thing I can say about her reaction to the ring is her remark that when growing up as a child and teenager she would often daydream about what her wedding ring would look like one day, and she says the ring I got her is essentially a picture-perfect, exact representation of what she always envisioned. So yeah, I guess its a good thing I had her come in and help me look at some bands and talk about diamonds beforehand, and Im glad shes the kind of girl who prefers that certainty over the surprise of sending me in and having me pick out something completely random. We both agreed that I made the right choice regarding the diamond size (I was debating a 1.0 and 1.2) - this 1.0 stone is just better in every regard except the tiny difference in carats, and my fiances biggest thing for rings is the "sparkly factor" over size, and the one I chose is exceptional in that regard. So, in the end, Midtown was pretty much as good of a place to shop for jewelry as I can imagine. Highest possible recommendations if youre looking for jewelry!
